Modeling and Direct Power Control Method of Vienna Rectifiers Using the Sliding Mode Control Approach

  • This paper uses the switching function approach to present a simple state model of the Vienna-type rectifier. The approach introduces the relationship between the DC-link neutral point voltage and the AC side phase currents. A novel direct power control (DPC) strategy, which is based on the sliding mode control (SMC) for Vienna I rectifiers, is developed using the proposed power model in the stationary ${\alpha}-{\beta}$ reference frames. The SMC-based DPC methodology directly regulates instantaneous active and reactive powers without transforming to a synchronous rotating coordinate reference frame or a tracking phase angle of grid voltage. Moreover, the required rectifier control voltages are directly calculated by utilizing the non-linear SMC scheme. Theoretically, active and reactive power flows are controlled without ripple or cross coupling. Furthermore, the fixed-switching frequency is obtained by employing the simplified space vector modulation (SVM). SVM solves the complicated designing problem of the AC harmonic filter. The simplified SVM is based on the simplification of the space vector diagram of a three-level converter into that of a two-level converter. The dwelling time calculation and switching sequence selection are easily implemented like those in the conventional two-level rectifier. Replacing the current control loops with power control loops simplifies the system design and enhances the transient performance. The simulation models in MATLAB/Simulink and the digital signal processor-controlled 1.5 kW Vienna-type rectifier are used to verify the fast responses and robustness of the proposed control scheme.

  • In this paper, we propose the methods to select the stable region for the detect region which is required in the system used the face to the ROI in the auto-focus digital camera. this method regards the face region as the ROI in the progressive input frame and focusing the region in the mobile camera embeded ISP module automatically. The learning algorithm to detect the face is the Adaboost algorithm. we proposed the method to detect the slanted face not participate in the train process and postprocessing method for the results of detection, and then we proposed the stabilization method to sustain the region not shake for the region. we estimated the capability for the stabilization algorithm using the RMS between the trajectory and regression curve.

A Study on Sustainable Outdoor Space of Regional Public Hospitals (지역거점공공병원의 지속가능한 외부공간에 대한 연구)

  • Purpose: Since hospitals have a big impact on the natural and social environment, hospitals' sustainability must be considered in various aspects including environmental, social, and economical aspects. So far, research on sustainable hospitals has mainly been conducted on indoor environment, but outdoor space of hospital is as important as well. The purpose of this research is to study the sustainability of hospital outdoor space and to make proposals for improving sustainable regional public hospitals. Methods: Through preceding research analysis and literature review, the concept of sustainable outdoor space of hospital was defined. Also, the evaluation contents of outdoor space were extracted from domestic and foreign green building certification criteria. With this analytic frame, we visited 4 regional public hospitals in Korea, interviewed the facility managers, and analyzed sustainability of hospital outdoor space. Results: Analysis of 4 regional public hospitals reveals that there is a lack of consideration for sustainability in all 4 categories; urban and network, natural environment, community, and user. In terms of community, sustainability has rarely been applied to all four hospitals. The site selection and terrain of the site were essential to sustainability. Implications: Establishing a master plan considering future expansion is critical. Also more attempt to show regional characteristics is needed. It is necessary to design a comprehensive outdoor space that considers sustainability and also healing environment. Level difference in the site can be used as a design element.

Fuzzy Optimum Design of Plane Steel Frames Using Refined Plastic Hinge Analysis and a Genetic Algorithm (개선소성힌지해석과 유전자 알고리듬을 이용한 평면 강골조 구조물의 퍼지최적설계)

  • GA-based fuzzy optimum design algorithm incorporated with the refined plastic hinge analysis method is presented in this study. In the refined plastic hinge analysis method, geometric nonlinearity is considered by using the stability functions of the beam-column members. Material nonlinearity is also considered by using the gradual stiffness degradation model, which considers the effects of residual stresses, moment redistribution through the occurence of plastic hinges, and the geometric imperfections of the members. In the genetic algorithm, the tournament selection method and the total weight of the steel frames. The requirements of load-carrying capacity, serviceability, ductility, and constructabil ity are used as the constraint conditions. In fuzzy optimization, for crisp objective function and fuzzy constraint s, the tolerance that is accepted is 5% of the constraints. Furthermore, a level-cut method is presented from 0 to 1 at a 0 .2 interval, with the use of the nonmembership function, to solve fuzzy-optimization problems. The values of conventional GA optimization and fuzzy GA optimization are compared in several examples of steel structures.

  • Most of video indexing applications depend on fast and efficient archiving, browsing, retrieval techniques. A number of techniques have been approached about only pixel domain analysis until now. Those approaches brought about the costly overhead of decompressing because the most of multimedia data is typically stored in compressed format. But with a compressed video data, if we can analyze the compressed data directly. then we avoid the costly overhead such as in pixel domain. In this paper, we analyze the information of compressed video stream directly, and then extract the available features for video indexing. We have derived the technique for cut detection using these features, and the stream is divided into shots. Also we propose a new brief key frame selection technique and an efficient video indexing method using the spatial informations(DT coefficients) and also the temporal informations(motion vectors).

Hysteretic performance of SPSWs with trapezoidally horizontal corrugated web-plates

  • Previous research has shown that steel plate shear walls (SPSWs) are efficient lateral force-resisting systems against both wind and seismic loads. A properly designed SPSW can have high initial stiffness, strength, and energy absorption capacity as well as superior ductility. SPSWs have been commonly designed with unstiffened and stiffened infill plates based on economical and performance considerations. Recent introduction and application of corrugated plates with advantageous structural features has motivated the researchers to consider the employment of such elements in stiffened SPSWs with the aim of lowering the high construction cost of such high-performing systems. On this basis, this paper presents results from a numerical investigation of the hysteretic performance of SPSWs with trapezoidally corrugated infill plates. Finite element cyclic analyses are conducted on a series of flat- and corrugated-web SPSWs to examine the effects of web-plate thickness, corrugation angle, and number of corrugation half-waves on the hysteretic performance of such structural systems. Results of the parametric studies are indicative of effectiveness of increasing of the three aforementioned web-plate geometrical and corrugation parameters in improving the cyclic response and energy absorption capacity of SPSWs with trapezoidally corrugated infill plates. Increasing of the web-plate thickness and number of corrugation half-waves are found to be the most and the least effective in adjusting the hysteretic performance of such promising lateral force-resisting systems, respectively. Findings of this study also show that optimal selection of the web-plate thickness, corrugation angle, and number of corrugation half-waves along with proper design of the boundary frame members can result in high stiffness, strength, and cyclic performances of such corrugated-web SPSWs.

Lane Model Extraction Based on Combination of Color and Edge Information from Car Black-box Images (차량용 블랙박스 영상으로부터 색상과 에지정보의 조합에 기반한 차선모델 추출)

  • This paper presents a procedure to extract lane line models using a set of proposed methods. Firstly, an image warping method based on homography is proposed to transform a target image into an image which is efficient to find lane pixels within a certain region in the image. Secondly, a method to use the combination of the results of edge detection and HSL (Hue, Saturation, and Lightness) transform is proposed to detect lane candidate pixels with reliability. Thirdly, erroneous candidate lane pixels are eliminated using a selection area method. Fourthly, a method to fit lane pixels to quadratic polynomials is proposed. In order to test the validity of the proposed procedure, a set of black-box images captured under varying illumination and noise conditions were used. The experimental results show that the proposed procedure could overcome the problems of color-only and edge-only based methods and extract lane pixels and model the lane line geometry effectively within less than 0.6 seconds per frame under a low-cost computing environment.

  • In this paper, we propose methods to improve image-based auto-focus that can compensate for drawbacks of traditional auto-focus control. When adjusting the focus, there is a problem that the focus window cannot be set to the same position if the camera's LOS is not directed at the same location and flow or shake. To address this issue, we applied image tracking techniques to improve optimal focus localization accuracy. And also, although the same focus value should be calculated at the same focus step, but different values can be calculated by camera's fine shaking or image disturbance due to atmospheric scattering. To tackle this problem a SAFS (Stable Adjacency Frame Selection) has been proposed. As a result of this study, our proposed methodology shows more accurate than traditional methods in terms of finding best focus position.

Structural damage identification with output-only measurements using modified Jaya algorithm and Tikhonov regularization method

  • The absence of excitation measurements may pose a big challenge in the application of structural damage identification owing to the fact that substantial effort is needed to reconstruct or identify unknown input force. To address this issue, in this paper, an iterative strategy, a synergy of Tikhonov regularization method for force identification and modified Jaya algorithm (M-Jaya) for stiffness parameter identification, is developed for damage identification with partial output-only responses. On the one hand, the probabilistic clustering learning technique and nonlinear updating equation are introduced to improve the performance of standard Jaya algorithm. On the other hand, to deal with the difficulty of selection the appropriate regularization parameters in traditional Tikhonov regularization, an improved L-curve method based on B-spline interpolation function is presented. The applicability and effectiveness of the iterative strategy for simultaneous identification of structural damages and unknown input excitation is validated by numerical simulation on a 21-bar truss structure subjected to ambient excitation under noise free and contaminated measurements cases, as well as a series of experimental tests on a five-floor steel frame structure excited by sinusoidal force. The results from these numerical and experimental studies demonstrate that the proposed identification strategy can accurately and effectively identify damage locations and extents without the requirement of force measurements. The proposed M-Jaya algorithm provides more satisfactory performance than genetic algorithm, Gaussian bare-bones artificial bee colony and Jaya algorithm.

  • In compliance with environmental regulations at sea and the introduction of unmanned autonomous ships, electric propulsion ships are garnering significant attention. Induction machines used as propulsion electric motor (PEM) have maintenance advantages, but speed control is very complicated and difficult. One of the most commonly used techniques for speed control is DTC (direct torque control). DTC is simple in the reference frame transformation and the stator flux calculation. Meanwhile, two-level and three-level voltage source inverters (VSI) are predominantly used. The three-level VSI has more flexibility in voltage space vector selection compared to the two-level VSI. In this paper, speed is controlled using the DTC method based on the specifications of the PEM. The speed controller employs a PI controller with anti-windup functionality. In addition, the characteristics of the two-level VSI and three-level VSI are compared under identical conditions. It was confirmed through simulation that proper control of speed and torque has been achieved. In particular, the torque ripple was small and control was possible with a low DC voltage at low speed in the three-level VSI. The study confirmed that the application of DTC, using a three-level VSI, contributes to enhancing the system's response performance.
