  • Purpose - The relationship between multinationality and performance has become a hot topic in academic circles and is very important for multinational firms, especially for Chinese multinational firms, who need more experience to enter the international market. Given this background, this paper attempts to figure out the importance of multinationality to China's firm performance and to explore whether the Four-stage Theory can also be applied to China's firms. Research design, data, and methodology - We employ the panel data of 435 multinational firms from 2008 to 2017 chosen from China's A-shares to conduct an empirical analysis by using a fixed-effects model. In the paper, the performance is represented by ROA (return on assets), treated as a dependent variable, and multinationality is represented by FSTS (foreign sales/total sales), treated as an independent variable. Results - We find that the performance first decreases then rises, then falls down, and rises again in the end. Hence there is a W-shaped relationship between the multinationality of the Chinese manufacturing industries and firm performance, proving that the four-stage theory is also applicable to Chinese multinational firms. Conclusions - These empirical results can provide some advice for policymakers to improve the firm performance such as reducing the logistics cost of multinationality.

  • Purpose: This research was done to establish a theoretical foundation for the adjustment process of patients with hemophilia. Method: For this study, 14 patients with hemophilia participated. The data was collected through the in-depth interviews and analysed in terms of Strauss and Corbin's grounded theory methodology. Result: The core category was identified with "uncertainty". The adjustment process was classified into two stages: the 'unstable stage' before the moment they learn about the Hemophilia Foundation and the 'stable stage' since then. The two stages were further divided into four groups, namely 'the stage of isolation ', 'the stage of maintaining survival', 'the stage of pursuing hope', 'the stage of ambivalence'. The categories of these stages include a series of subcategories to describe the adjustment of patients. The quality of life for these patients has increasingly improved based on support from hemophiliac organizations. But due to the uncertainty of disease, the patients have four stages of adjustment process from the stage of isolation to that of ambivalence and might turn to feedback. Conclusion: Therefore the nursing interventions reflecting adjustment process of patients with hemophilia should be developed.

  • A comprehensive theory of the spin coating technique has been reviewed and the basic principles and parameters controlling the process are clearly highlighted, which include spin speed, spin time, acceleration and fume exhaust. The process generally involves four stages: a dispense stage, substrate acceleration stage, a stage of substrate spinning at a constant rate and fluid viscous forces dominate fluid thinning behaviour and a stage of substrate spinning at a constant rate and solvent evaporation dominates the coating thinning behaviour. The study also considered some common thin film defects associated with this technique, which include comet, striation, chucks marks environmental sensitivity and edge effect and possible remedies.

  • The theory of 4 great doctors in Geum Won era has been considered as a most scientific medicine after SangHanRon of Jang, Jung Kyung. And it influence for all the later medical theory and practice. I have found a common points between their Fire and Fever pathology and constitutional pathology of Li, Je Ma. The results obtained are as follows. 1. On the Viewpoint of medical history, there is common points in the fact that the start of Geum Won 4 great doctor' principle had been drived from awakening of the abuse of warm and hot herbs based on Hwa Je Guk Bang in the last stage of Song dynasty, and that the appearance of Sa Sang medicine was from the scientific reflection against the currency of the animation by warm herbs which was popular in the Jo Sun dynasty. 2. The theory of Fire and Fever pathology of 4 great doctors has been fixed in the principle of Cold and Fever pathology of viscera and bowel in the Sa Sang medicine. 3. The pathological meaning of 'internal fire' in the conculusion by 4 great doctors has got scientific fruit by Sa Sang medicine in its theory of four constitutional psychology and the formation of four visceras. 4. It is considered that the study of DongUiSuSeBoWon is needed for the relation with former medical theories.

  • The purpose of this study was to improve the understanding of the essential experience of Separated Families in South and North Korea in a socio-cultural context and to explore their post-separation adjustment process from the perspective of the families. Major findings in this study are summarized as follows. First, 'han' was the central phenomenon that the participants experienced following their separation. Second, the core issue in the process of post-separation adjustment was 'accepting the separation and rearrangement of reality for reunion', and over time the participants went through four stages in their adjustment process: the stage of being overwhelmed, the stage of conflict, the stage of awareness, and the stage of acceptance. Third, the main factors affecting the participants' adjustment were supportive systems, available resources(individual variables) and interaction with other separated families. fourth, four types were observed in the typology of adjustment and reunion of the participants.

  • Based on the random cracking theory, the cylinder RVE model of reinforced concrete is established and the damage process is divided into three stages as the evolution of the cracks. The stress distribution along longitude direction of the concrete and the steel bar in the cylinder model are derived. The equivalent elastic modulus of the RVE are derived and the user-defined field variable subroutine (USDFLD) for the equivalent elastic modulus is well integrated into the ABAQUS. Regarding the tensile rebars and the concrete surrounding the rebars as the equivalent homogeneous transversely isotropic material, and the FEM analysis for the reinforced concrete beams is conducted with the USDFLD subroutine. Considering the concrete cracking and interfacial debonding, the macroscopic damage process of the reinforced concrete beam under four-point bending loading in the simulation. The volume fraction of rebar and the cracking degree are mainly discussed to reveal their influence on the macro-performance and they are calibrated with experimental results. Comparing with the bending experiment performed with 8 reinforced concrete beams, the bending stiffness of the second stage and the ultimate load simulated are in good agreement with the experimental values, which verifies the effectiveness and the accuracy of the improved finite element method for reinforced concrete beam.

  • In this paper an efficient image encryption scheme based on cyclic rotations and multiple blockwise diffusions with two chaotic maps is proposed. A Sin map is used to generate round keys for the encryption/decryption process. A Pomeau-Manneville map is used to generate chaotic values for permutation, pixel value rotation and diffusion operations. The encryption scheme is composed of three stages: permutation, pixel value rotation and diffusion. The permutation stage performs four operations on the image: row shuffling, column shuffling, cyclic rotation of all the rows and cyclic rotation of all the columns. This stage reduces the correlation significantly among neighboring pixels. The second stage performs circular rotation of pixel values twice by scanning the image horizontally and vertically. The amount of rotation is based on $M{\times}N$ chaotic values. The last stage performs the diffusion four times by scanning the image in four different ways: block of $8{\times}8$ pixels, block of $16{\times}16$ pixels, principal diagonally, and secondary diagonally. Each of the above four diffusions performs the diffusion in two directions (forwards and backwards) with two previously diffused pixels and two chaotic values. This stage makes the scheme resistant to differential attacks. The security and performance of the proposed method is analyzed systematically by using the key space, entropy, statistical, differential and performance analysis. The experimental results confirm that the proposed method is computationally efficient with high security.

  • This study identifies various risk factors associated with activities of early construction stage, then establishes the Risk Breakdown Structure(RBS) by classifying the risks into the three groups; Common risks, risks for Earth works, and risks for Foundation works. The Common risks are identified and classified by considering various aspects of the early construction stage such as financial, political, constructional aspects, etc. The risks for Earth works and Foundation works are identified in detail by surveying technical specifications, relevant claim cases and interviewing with experts. These risks are classified based on the Wok Breakdown Structure(WBS) of the early construction stage. The WBS presented in this study classifies the works of early construction stage into four categories; excavation, sheeting works, foundation works, footing works. This study suggests a risk analysis method using fuzzy theory for construction projects. Construction risks are generally evaluated as vague linguistic value by subjective decision making. Fuzzy theory is a proper method to quantify vague conditions of construction activities. Therefore, this study utilizes fuzzy theory to analyse construction risks. The weight of risks is estimated by reflecting the interrelationship among risk factors from absolute weights obtained by fuzzy measure into the relative weights by Analytical Hierarchy Process(AHP). The interrelationship is estimated by Sugeno-fuzzy measure.
