In the present paper, hovering performance analyses of proprotor and helicopter rotor blades were performed by using FLUENT software. As a proprotor, TRAM(Tilt Rotor Aeroacoustic Model) was selected and performance analysis was carried out with mesh adaptation for more elaborate solution. As a helicopter rotor blades, two bladed Caradonna and Tung's rotor and four-bladed BO-105 helicopter rotor blades were selected. In case of Caradonna and Tung's rotor, vortex trajectory was compared with experimental data to inspect the vortex convection capability of the present flow solver. For the final case, performance of BO-105 helicopter rotor blades was investigated and compared with experimental data. After performance analyses of proprotor and helicopter rotors, it was shown that the present solver showed reasonable vortex strength, wake geometry and thurst coefficient distributions. But power coefficient was somewhat overestimated about $10%{\sim}15%$ regard less of mesh adaptation.

The Vortex-induced Motions (VIM) phenomenon of semi-submersibles is relevant for the fatigue life of moorings and risers. Model tests regarding the VIM behavior of a semi-submersible with four square columns were conducted in order to investigate the effects of the current incidence and the aspect ratio of the immerged column. The experimental results show that the largest transverse amplitudes are around 70% of the column width at $30^{\circ}$ and $45^{\circ}$ incidences in a range of reduced velocities from 5 to 8 when the aspect ratio of the immerged column is 1.90. The largest yaw motion occurs at $0^{\circ}$ incidence with the peak value around $4.5^{\circ}$. Similar characteristics of the VIM response are observed for the semi-submersible with aspect ratios of 1.90 and 1.73. When the aspect ratio decreases 50% to 0.87, 30% decrease in the peak transverse amplitudes can be seen.

Highly sweep leading edge extensions(LEX) applied to delta wings have greatly improved the subsonic maneuverability of contemporary fighters. In this study, systematic approach by PIV experimental method within a circulating water channel was adopted to study the fundamental characteristics of induced vortex generation, development and its breakdown appearing on a delta wing model with or without LEX in terms of four angles of attack($15^{\circ},\;20^{\circ},\;25^{\circ},\;30^{\circ}$) and six measuring sections of chord length($30{\%},\;40{\%},\;50{\%},\;60{\%},\;70{\%},\;80{\%}$). Sideslip effect in case of the LEX was also studied for two sideslip(yaw) angles($5^{\circ},\;10^{\circ}$) at one angle of attack(20). Distribution of time-averaged velocity vectors and vorticity over the delta wing model were compared along the chord length direction. Quantitative comparison of the maximum vorticity featuring the induced pressure distribution were also conducted to clarify the significance of the LEX existence. Animation presentation in velocity distribution was also implemented to reveal the effect of LEX with wing vortex interaction.

Three-dimensional flow characteristics within a high-acceleration first-stage turbine vane passage has been investigated in a newly-built vane cascade for propulsion. The result shows that there is a strong favorable pressure gradient on the vane pressure surface. On its suction surface, however, there exists not only a much stronger favorable pressure gradient than that on the pressure surface upstream of the mid-chord but also a subsequent adverse pressure gradient downstream of it. By employing two different oil-film methods with upstream coating and full-coverage coating, a four-vortex model horseshoe vortex system can be identified ahead of each leading edge in the cascade, and the separation line of inlet boundary layer flow as well as the separation line of re-attached flow is provided as well. In addition, basic flow data such as secondary flow, aerodynamic loss, and flow turning angle downstream of the cascade are obtained.

The averaged non-linear term in the turbulence equations, suggested by Yeo (1987), is analyzed theoretically and experimentally. It was formulated by applying the filtering concepts to the convolution integral average definition with the Gaussian response function. This filtering approach seems to be superior to the conventional averaging methods in which all four terms at the doubly average vol must be defined separately, and it also gives a very useful tool in understanding the turbulence structures. By theoretically analyzing the newly derived description for the averaged non-linear terms, it is found that the vortex stretching can be explicitly accounted for. Furthermore, comparisons of the correlation coefficients based on the experimental data show that the vortex stretching acts most significantly on the turbulence residual stress. Thus, it strongly supports the claim that the vortex stretching is essential in the transfer of turbulence. In addition. a general form of turbulent energy models in LES is derived, by which it is recognized that the Smagorinsky, the vorticity and the SGS energy models are not distinctive.
Vortical structures are investigated numerically for both cold and combusting flows from a two-dimensional bluff-body burner in the transitional flow regime from steady to unsteady state. The Reynolds number of the central fuel flow is varied from 10 to 230 at a fixed air Reynolds number of 400. The flame sheet model of infinite chemical reaction and unit Lewis number are assumed in the simulation. The temperature dependence of the viscosity and diffusivity of the gas mixture is also considered. The vortex shedding is observed depending on the fuel flow. For cold flow, four different types of vortical structure are identified. However, for combusting flow of methane-air system the vortical structures change significantly due to a large amount of heat release during the combustion process, in contract to cold flow.

The dominant effect of the interaction between vortices, generated by the addition of the Leading Edge Extension(LEX) in front of the wing, was well observed in this experiment. In this study, systematic approach by PIV experimental method within a circulating water channel was adopted to study the fundamental characteristics of induced vertex generation, development and its breakdown appearing on a delta wing model with or without LEX in terms of four angles of attack($15^{\circ}$, $20^{\circ}$, $25^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$) and six measuring sections(30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%) of chord length. Distributions of time-averaged velocity vectors and vortices over the delta wing model were compared along the chord length direction. High-speed CCD camera which made it possible to acquire serial images is able to get the detailed information about the flow characteristics occurred on the delta wing. Especially quantitative comparison of the maximum vorticity featuring the induced pressure distribution were also conducted to clarity the significance of the LEX existence.
The distinguishing features of flows at high angles of attacks are caused by the generation of free shear layers at sharp leading edges, by separation of the viscous layers from the surfaces of wings and bodies and by the flow in the wakes of the wings and bodies. In this study, systematic approach by PIV experimental method within a circulating water channel was adopted to study the fundamental characteristics of induced vortex generation, development and its breakdown appearing on a delta wing model with or without LEX in terms of four angles of attack($15^{\circ}$, $20^{\circ}$, $25^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$) and six measuring sections(30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%) of chord length. Prediction methods for a rotor averaged inflow in forward flight are investigated in this study. The investigated methods are Drees linear inflow model, Mangler & Squire model and free vortex wake(FVW) method. Predictions have been performed for a four-blade rotor operating at three different advance ratios i.e. 0.15, 0.23 and 0.30, at which experimental data are available. According to results, Drees model has a limitation for the inflow non-uniformity prediction due to an inherent linear characteristics. Mangler & Squire model has a reasonable accuracy except the disk edge region. KARI FVW method has very good accuracy and has better accuracy than the other FVW method especially in inboard region. However, there are some discrepancies in retreating side due to the dynamic stall effect and in near hub region due to the fuselage upwash effect.
