The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of plugger penetration depth on the apical extrusion of root canal sealer during root canal obturation with Continuous Wave of Condensation Technique. Root canals of forty extracted human teeth were divided into four groups and were prepared up to size 40 of 0.06 taper with ProFile. After drying. canals of three groups were filled with Continuous Wave of Condensation Technique with System $B^{TM}$ and different plugger penetration depths of 3. 5, and 7 mm from the apex. Canals of one group were filled with cold lateral compaction technique as a control. Canals were filled with non-standardized master gutta-percha cones and 0.02 mL of Sealapex. Apical extruded sealer was collected in a container and weighed. Data was analyzed with one-way ANOVA and Duncan's Multiple Range Test. 3 and 5 mm penetration depth groups in Continuous Wave of Condensation Technique showed significantly more extrusion of root canal sealer than 7 mm penetration depth group (p < 0.05). However, there was no significant difference between 7 mm depth group in Continuous Wave of Condensation Technique and cold lateral compaction group (p < 0.05). The result of this study demonstrates that deeper plugger penetration depth causes more extrusion of root canal sealer in root canal obturation by Continuous Wave of Condensation Technique. Therefore, special caution is needed when plugger penetration is deeper in the canal in Continuous Wave of Condensation Technique to minimize the amount of sealer extrusion beyond apex.
This study was conducted to compare the cleansing effect of various irrigants and the function of the quantity of irrigants in apical region. One hundred sixty single rooted teeth were divided into four groups and fourty teeth in each group were individually enlarged and irrigated with each of four irrigants as they would be during clinical condition. The four tested irrigants were Normal saline solution, 3.5% NaOCl, 15% EDTA, and 50% Citric acid. In each group, twenty teeth were flushed with 2cc of each irrigant and another twenty teeth with 5cc of same irrigant after use of each instrument. After final flush and dry, the roots were split longitudinally and the degree of cleansing at apical portion were evaluated under Stereoscope by three observers. The typical specimens of each group were also examined under Scanning electron microscope. The results were as follows. 1. There were no significant difference of cleansing effect among the tested irrigants. 2. 5cc flushed groups have more samples that have high degree of cleansing than 2cc flushed groups. 3. The canals irrigated with 2cc showed the presence of many dentin chips, tissue debris and smeared layer, whereas the 5cc groups revealed relatively clean canal surface and less smeared layer under Scanning electron microscope. 4. The teeth flushed with 5cc of EDTA and with 5cc of Citric acid showed the most clean canal surface at Scanning fictures.

This study was investigated the potential of ducks and fish trap for the control of golden apple snail, Pomacea canaliculata, in paddy field and water canals. The smaller size of duck (700g) preyed snails than the bigger one (1,300g). The consumption of two ducks was bigger under plastic house. They preyed over 90% on the second days of release. The release time of ducks was more effective at seven days after inoculation of snails than simultaneous. Duck could suppress the density of snails at any time from month after inoculation. Four ducks per $30m^2$ could control snails in an irrigation canals. The number of attracted golden apple snail per week was 216 in big fish trap $({\Phi}15cm)$ with menthol paste which for a carp.
Korean pine (Pinus koraiensis Sieb.et Zucc.) boards of 30 mm thickness were treated by steaming and four different drying methods. Small specimens were taken from the sapwoods of the treated boards and their longitudinal liquid permeability was measured according to Darcy's law. The specimens were also extracted with alcohol and aceton solutions to examine the mechanism of liquid flow in wood. It was observed that specific permeability drastically decreases with measurement time, resulting in violation of Darcy's law. It may be due to that air bubbles formed under vacuum block flow paths in resin canals. The average specific permeabilities of non-extracted and extracted specimens are different from one treatment to another. It is supposed that the properties of residual resin in resin canals change depending on the conditions of treatments. Anatomical examination was conducted with a scanning electron microscope.
Purpose: This study was performed to investigate the course of the mandibular canal on panoramic radiography and the visibility of this canal on both panoramic radiography and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Materials and Methods: The study consisted of panoramic radiographs and CBCT images from 262 patients. The course of the mandibular canal, as seen in panoramic radiographs, was classified into four types: linear, elliptical, spoon-shaped, and turning curves. The visibility of this canal from the first to the third molar region was evaluated by visually determining whether the mandibular canal was clearly visible, probably visible, or invisible. The visibihlity of the canal on panoramic radiographs was compared with that on CBCT images. Results: Elliptical curves were most frequently observed along the course of the mandibular canal. The percentage of clearly visible mandibular canals was the highest among the spoon-shaped curves and the lowest among the linear curves. On panoramic radiographs, invisible mandibular canals were found in 22.7% of the examined sites in the first molar region, 11.8% in the second molar region, and 1.3% in the third molar region. On CBCT cross-sectional images, the mandibular canal was invisible in 8.2% of the examined sites in the first molar region, 5.7% in the second molar region, and 0.2% in the third molar region. Conclusion: The visibility of this canal was lower in the first molar region than in the third molar region. The mandibular canal presented better visibility on CBCT images than on panoramic radiographs.

Objectives: Glide path preparation is recommended to reduce torsional failure of nickel-titanium (NiTi) rotary instruments and to prevent root canal transportation. This study evaluated whether the repetitive insertions of G-files to the working length maintain the apical size as well as provide sufficient lumen as a glide path for subsequent instrumentation. Materials and Methods: The G-file system (Micro-Mega) composed of G1 and G2 files for glide path preparation was used with the J-shaped, simulated resin canals. After inserting a G1 file twice, a G2 file was inserted to the working length 1, 4, 7, or 10 times for four each experimental group, respectively (n = 10). Then the canals were cleaned by copious irrigation, and lubricated with a separating gel medium. Canal replicas were made using silicone impression material, and the diameter of the replicas was measured at working length (D0) and 1 mm level (D1) under a scanning electron microscope. Data was analysed by one-way ANOVA and post-hoc tests (p = 0.05). Results: The diameter at D0 level did not show any significant difference between the 1, 2, 4, and 10 times of repetitive pecking insertions of G2 files at working length. However, 10 times of pecking motion with G2 file resulted in significantly larger canal diameter at D1 (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Under the limitations of this study, the repetitive insertion of a G2 file up to 10 times at working length created an adequate lumen for subsequent apical shaping with other rotary files bigger than International Organization for Standardization (ISO) size 20, without apical transportation at D0 level.

Objectives: To evaluate the fracture incidence of Reciproc R25 instruments (VDW) used during non-surgical root canal retreatments performed by students in a postgraduate endodontic program. Materials and Methods: From the analysis of clinical record cards and periapical radiographs of root canal retreatments performed by postgraduate students using the Reciproc R25, a total of 1,016 teeth (2,544 root canals) were selected. The instruments were discarded after a single use. The general incidence of instrument fractures and its frequency was analyzed considering the group of teeth and the root thirds where the fractures occurred. Statistical analysis was performed using the χ2 test (p < 0.01). Results: Seven instruments were separated during the procedures. The percentage of fracture in relation to the number of instrumented canals was 0.27% and 0.68% in relation to the number of instrumented teeth. Four fractures occurred in maxillary molars, 1 in a mandibular molar, 1 in a mandibular premolar and 1 in a maxillary incisor. A greater number of fractures was observed in molars when compared with the number of fractures observed in the other dental groups (p < 0.01). Considering all of the instrument fractures, 71.43% were located in the apical third and 28.57% in the middle third (p < 0.01). One instrument fragment was removed, one bypassed, while in 5 cases, the instrument fragment remained inside the root canal. Conclusions: The use of Reciproc R25 instruments in root canal retreatments carried out by postgraduate students was associated with a low incidence of fractures.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate and compare the efficacy of the S1 reciprocating system and the D-Race retreatment rotary system for filling material removal and the apical extrusion of debris. Materials and Methods: Sixty-four freshly extracted maxillary canines were shaped with size 10 and size 15 K-files, instrumented using ProTaper Gold under irrigation with 2.5% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), obturated according to the principle of thermo-mechanical condensation with gutta-percha and zinc oxide eugenol sealer, and allowed to set for 3 weeks at 37℃. Subsequently, the teeth were divided into a control group (n = 4), the D-Race rotary instrument group (n = 30), and the S1 reciprocating instrument group (n = 30). After classical retreatment, the canals were subjected to a complementary approach with the XP-Endo Shaper. Desocclusol was used as a solvent, and irrigation with 2.5% NaOCl was performed. Each group was divided into subgroups according to the timing of radiographic readings. The images were imported into a software program to measure the remaining filling material, the apical extrusion, and the root canal space. The data were statistically analyzed using the Z-test and JASP graphics software. Results: No significant differences were found between the D-Race and S1 groups for primary retreatment; however, using a complementary cleaning method increased the removal of remnant filling (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Classical removal of canal filling material may not be sufficient for root canal disinfection, although a complementary finishing approach improved the results. Nevertheless, all systems left some debris and caused apical extrusion.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between linear and volumetric measurements of apical dye penetration in canals obturated by various kinds of methods. The canals of 108 roots without crown were conventionally prepared and randomly assigned to four group. The canals of group I a2 were obturated by lateral condensation with sealer, group II a2 by thermoplasticized low-temperature ($70^{\circ}C$) gutta-percha with sealer, group III by Thermafil endodntic obturation with sealer and group IV by injection-molded thermop-lasticized guttapercha One mm of root apex was exposed to a 2 % methylene blue solution at $7^{\circ}C$or 10 days, and the quality of apical seals was assessed by measuring the leakage linearly and volumetrically. The obtained results were as follows: In linear measurements, group II showed significanty less leakage than group III, I and group III also showed less than group N, but no statistically significant difference was demonstrated between the others. In volumetric measurements, group II showed significantly less leakage than group I and II, and no significant differnce from group III. There was a weak significant correlation between the linear measurement and the volumetric measurement(r=0.3391, P<0.001).
The purpose of this study was to compare the shaping ability of the two different Ni-Ti file systems and the two different engine systems in simulated canals. A total of four groups of each 10 were tested. Each group was instrumented with HeroShaper and Endo-Mate2 (Croup HE), HeroShaper and Tecnika (Croup HT), ProFile and Endo-Mate2 (Group PE), and ProFile and Tecnika (Croup PT). Canal preparation time was recorded. The images of pre- and post- instrumented root canals were scanned and superimposed. The amounts of increased width and centering ratio were measured and calculated at apical 1, 3 and 5mm levels. These data were statistically analyzed with one-way ANOVA and Duncan's multiple range test The results of this study were as fellows ; 1. Canal preparation time of HT group was the shortest (p<0.05). 2. The amount of increased canal width in HE group was significantly larger than PT group at apical 1mm level (p<0.05) At apical 3mm level, PT group was significantly smaller than other groups (p<0.05). At apical 5mm level, PE group was significantly larger than PT group (p<0.05). 3. The amount of centering ratio in HE group was significantly larger than other groups (p<0.05). At apical 5mm level, HT group was significantly larger than PE group and PT group (p<0.05). Under the condition of this study, torque-controlled endodontic motor is safer than no torque controlled motor, especially when the active file is used.
