  • There are insufficient models that find problems and solutions for accident prevention through risk assessment and suggest safe work process and work instruction from foundation works to finish work for accident decrease. This paper presents a quantitative risk assessment model by analysis of risk factors in each process such as foundation, erection, structure, equipment finish and etc based on accident examples and investigation on actual condition in building. In addition, the safety management system was developed to perform risk assessment of construction and use it for effective safety training for labor.

  • An analytical solution for the shape functions of a beam segment supported on a generalized two-parameter elastic foundation is derived. The solution is general, and is not restricted to a particular range of magnitudes of the foundation parameters. The exact shape functions can be utilized to derive exact analytic expressions for the coefficients of the element stiffness matrix, work equivalent nodal forces for arbitrary transverse loads and coefficients of the consistent mass and geometrical stiffness matrices. As illustration, each distinct coefficient of the element stiffness matrix is compared with its conventional counterpart for a beam segment supported by no foundation at all for the entire range of foundation parameters.

  • In any form of construction work, it is essential that accidents be prevented at every stage from foundation preparation to build completion. For this, it is necessary to use models that can assess risk and provide instruction for safe work processes so that the risk of accidents is reduced. Currently, however, very few models can perform these tasks. In this paper, we presents a model that assesses risk quantitatively by analyzing risk factors involved in stage of construction such as foundation work, erection work, structural work, equipment work, finishing work and etc work. The model performs assessment based on examples of accidents and by investing actual conditions during construction. In addition, we presents in this paper a safety management system was developed to assess risk during construction and to effectively train laborers.

  • Uldolmok tidal current power plant was constructed on May 2009 at Jindo Gun in Korea. However it had much trouble in installing structure due to the extremely fast tidal current velocity(max. 5.5m/sec) and the jacket type plant structure. Therefore in this paper, The characteristics of tidal current and sea bed topography at Uldolmok tidal current plant site are investigated, and the detailed foundation work process of the plant is described.

  • Pile driving work causes a vibration problem in the construction site using pile foundation and often causes civil affairs by construction noise around the construction site. For the vibration and noise problems, the driving after drilling method rather than the direct driving method is being generalized for reducing vibration and noise. However, this method also causes civil affairs when the driving work is operated in adjacent area. This study suggests a criterion for evaluating an optimal allowed distance for pile driving work by the driving after drilling method. Actual surveys of vibration and noise for pile driving work in seven construction sites were used for developing regression analysis equations. The results can be a standard to estimate the allowed distance to avoid vibration and noise problems in pile driving work for deep foundation.

  • With growing of wind turbine industry, offshore wind turbine system is getting more attention in recent years. Foundation of the offshore wind turbine plays a key role in stability of whole system. In this work, 5MW NREL reference wind turbine with rated speed of 11.4m/s is used for load calculation. Wind loads and wave loads are evaluated using GH-Bladed (Garard Hassan) and FAST (NREL). Additionally, FE simulation is carried out to investigate the wave effect on the support structure. Meanwhile, this work is trying to systematize and optimize load cases simulation for foundation of wind turbine system.

  • In the case of a rail road bridge extension work, especially single track to double track, the foundation of new substructure which supports the extended part of superstructure could be interfered by the exist foundation of an old bridge. When these two foundations are jointed to prevent such fatal effects of the structure as unequal subsidence of soil foundations, it is important to prove the structural behaviour of the joining surfaces between new foundation and old foundation. 3-Dimensional Finite Element Analysis Method have been studied for the solutions of the structural behaviour of the foundations. In this analysis, 'Contact Element' which allows the sliding of each adjoining member is used for the joint of the boundary surface of the old and new pier foundations. Furthermore, Material Nonlinear Behaviour Analysis also supports the accuracy of the result in this study because the foundations consist of concrete main bodies and reinforced steel bars. These detailed analyses secure the verification of the structural safety of the foundations in the extension work more firmly.
