Conventional apartment building projects have favored wall slab structure for the ease of construction and economic viability. However, wall slab structure, consisting of bearing walls, makes remodeling a difficult challenge. In addition, as the amendment to the Building Act in November, 2005 incentivized easy-to-remodel Rahmen structure design for apartment building in terms of floor area ratio and the number of stories, were are seeing more use of PC construct method in apartment building projects gradually. However, PC construction method requires complex connections between beams and columns, making it difficult to install and remove formwork. Furthermore, it is not possible to reuse forms after removal, generating lots of construction wastes, and it is necessary to install new forms again when the size of connection changes in line with modification of column cross-section. Researchers in Korea and elsewhere in the world have focused on structural performance of connection in PC construction method, with little attention to alternative approaches to improving connection forms for PC construction method. Accordingly, this research aims to study an approach to improving connection forms for PC construction method.
For the construction of open-topped steel box girder bridges, prefabricated concrete slab could offer several advantages over cast-in-situ deck including good quality control, fast construction, and elimination of the formwork for concrete slab casting. However, precast decks without reinforcements at transverse joints between precast slabs should be designed to prevent the initiation of cracking at the joints, because the performance of the joint is especially crucial for the integrity of a structural system. Several prestressing methods are available to introduce proper compression at the joints, such as internal tendons, external tendons and support lowering after shear connection. In this paper, experimental results from a continuous composite bridge model with precast decks are presented. Internal tendons and external tendons were used to prevent cracking at the joints. Judging from the tests, precast decks in negative moment regions have the whole contribution to the flexural stiffness of composite section under service loads if appropriate prestressing is introduced. The validity of the calculation of a cracking load fur serviceability was presented by comparing an observed cracking load and the calculated value. Flexural behavior of the continuous composite beam with external prestressing before and after cracking was discussed by using the deflection and strain data.

The magnitude and distribution of hydration heat of concrete structures are related to the thermal properties of each component of the concrete, the initial temperature, the type of formwork, and the ambient temperature of exposed surfaces. Even though the reinforcing steel bar has completely different thermal properties, it has been excluded in the thermal analysis of the concrete structures for uncertain reasons. In this study, finite element analysis was performed on the concrete structures reinforced with steel bars in order to investigate the effect of reinforcing steel bars on the temperature and stress distribution due to the heat of hydration. As the steel content increased, the maximum temperature and the difference in the internal-external temperature decreased by 32.5% and 10.0%, respectively. It is clearly shown that the consideration of the influence of reinforcing steel bars in the heat of hydration analysis is necessary to obtain realistic solutions for the prediction of the maximum temperature and stresses of concrete structures.

Concrete Filled Fibre Reinforced Polymer Tube (CFFT) for new columns construction has attracted significant research attention in recent years. The CFFT acts as a formwork for new columns and a barrier to corrosion accelerating agents. It significantly increases both the strength capacity (Strength enhancement ratio) and the ductility (Strain enhancement ratio) of reinforced concrete columns. In this study, based on predefined selection criteria, experimental investigation results of 134 circular CFFT columns under axial compression have been compiled and analysed from 599 CFFT specimens available in the literature. It has been observed that actual confinement ratio (expressed as a function of material properties of fibres, diameter of CFFT and compressive strength of concrete) has significant influence on the strength and ductility of circular CFFT columns. Design oriented models have been proposed to compute the strength and strain enhancement ratios of circular CFFT columns. The proposed strength and strain enhancement ratio models have significantly reduced Average Absolute Error (AAE), Mean Square Error (MSE), Relative Standard Error of Estimate (RSEE) and Standard Deviation (SD) as compared to other available strength and strain enhancement ratios of circular CFFT column models. The predictions of the proposed strength and strain enhancement ratio models match well with the experimental strength and strain enhancement ratios investigation results in the compiled database.
This paper presents an experimental study of a newly developed composite floor system, built up from thin-walled C-profiles and upper concrete deck. Trapezoidal sheeting provides the formwork and the fastening of the sheet transmits the shear forces between the C-profiles and the deck. The modified formation of the standard self-drilling screw in the beam-to-sheet connection is applied as shear connector. Push-out tests are completed to study the composite behaviour of the different connection arrangements. On the basis of the test results the behaviour is characterized by the observed failure modes. The design values of the connection stiffness and strength are calculated by the recommendation of Eurocode 4. In the next phase of the experimental study six full-scale composite beams are tested. The global geometry is based on the proposed geometry of the developed floor system. The applied shear connections are selected as the most efficient arrangements obtained from the push-out tests. The experimental behaviour of the composite beams are discussed and evaluated. As a conclusion of the experimental study the Eurocode 4 plastic design method is validated for the developed composite floor.
Since the scaffold is composed of modular members, the total height of multi-story scaffolds does not often meet with the headroom of construction buildings. At this time, other supporting members need to be set up on the top of scaffolds. However, the mechanical behaviors of the combined system of scaffolds and other supporting members have seldom been discussed. This study explores the stability of the combined system of scaffolds and shores. The loading tests conducted in the laboratory show that the critical load of the combined system of two-story scaffolds and wooden shores is about half that of the three-story scaffold system with the same height. In the failure of both the "scaffold system" and the "combined system of scaffolds and shores' after loading, the deformation mainly occurs in the in-plane direction of the scaffold. The outdoor loading test shows that no failure occurs on any members when the combined system fails. Instead, the whole system buckles and then collapses. In addition, the top formwork of the combined system can achieve the effect of lateral support reinforcement with small lateral support forces in the outdoor loading test. This study proposes the preliminary design guidelines for the scaffolding structural design.

As a construction technique is developed recently, the construction space and construction period are considered to important matters. Especially, in case of construction period, several method is proposed for strength control in the construction field. However there are very little strength control models for application of internal condition. The purpose of this study is to develop a strength control model for application of variety internal condition at construction field. The results are as follows ; 1) According to the results of compressive strength of concrete evaluated by logistic curve and proposed curve, proposed curve is applicable of construction field because there is similar relation with logistic curve. 2) It is shown that the construction period is shortened by reduction of the formwork removal time, because a predicted compressive strength of using the new curve is higher than the proposed compressive strength of standard.
The application of composite steel-concrete slabs with profiled steel sheeting has increased, due to the various advantages in relation to reinforced concrete slabs such as, the reduced thickness, the reduced amount of lost formwork needed, as well as the speed of execution. The loss of longitudinal shear resistance is, generally, the governing design mode for simply supported spans of common lengths. For common distributed loadings, the composite behaviour is influenced by the partial shear connection between the concrete and the steel sheeting. The present research work is intended to contribute to improving the ultimate limit state behaviour of composite slabs using end anchorage. Eurocode 4, Part 1.1 (EN 1994-1-1) provides an analytical methodology for predicting the increase of longitudinal resistance, achieved by using shear studs welded through the steel sheeting as the end anchorage mechanism. The code does not supply an analytical methodology for other kinds of end anchorage so, additional tests or studies are needed to prove the effectiveness of these types of anchorage. The influence of end anchorage mechanisms provided by transverse rebars at the ends of simply supported composite slabs is analysed in this paper. Two experimental programmes were carried out, the first to determine the resistance provided by the new end anchorage mechanism and the second to analyse its influence on the behaviour of simply supported composite slabs.

In this paper, optimum design problem of R.C. continuous beam is considered and GUI system is developed for using at the practical design. Objective function lot formulation of optimum design problem is made up of the costs of concrete, reinforcing steel and formwork. Design variables are width, effective depth of the beam and steel ratio and design constraints are considered on the strength, serviceability, durability and geometrical conditions. The optimum design problem is solved by using sequential linear programming(SLP), sequential convex programming(SCP) and compared their effectiveness. Also this paper shows the application at practical design work according to the development of GUI system using visual basic.

Recently, meteorological disasters have been increasing by climate change, excessive rainfall, and landslide. The purpose is to develop new fabric concrete that can prevent and recover from damages because some of areas are vulnerable to meteorological disaster. Specifically, this technology can minimize time and space constraint when repairing the concrete structure and installing a formwork. The structure of fabric concrete is a mixture of fabric concrete and a high-speed hardened cement, Silica sand, wollastonite mineral fiber, fabric material and waterproof PVC fabric. In this study, the ratio of mechanical properties and durability of the fabric concrete mixture was evaluated by deriving the binder: silica sand mix ratio of the fabric concrete mixture and substituting part of the cement amount with wollastonite mineral fiber. Best binder in performance evaluation: Silica sand mix ratio is 6: 4 and the target mechanical performance and durability are the best when over 15% wollastonite binder is replaced by silicate mineral fiber.
