  • The flora of vascular plants in Geojedo revealed to be 550 taxa based on only the voucher specimens to be collected. It comprise 108 families, 341 genera, 478 species, 69 varieties and 3 forms respectively. Among them, 13 taxa of Korean endemics and 8 taxa of rare and endangered plants were investigated in addition to 75 taxa of specially designated plants announced by the Ministry of Environment. Furthermore, 36 taxa of induced and naturalized plants were also observed in this area. One of the characteristics of forest vegetation is the broadly occupation of Pinus thunbergii on whole area of Geojedo. Although it's well condition and conservation status, the destruction area of vegetation was rapidly increasing by the industrial development, the deforestation and the tramp as well as by the basic disturbances of human beings. Therefore, more active and positive conservation strategy such as expansion of conservation area should be prepared rapidly by the results of long-term monitoring studies.

  • Floral analysis about vegetation of Kimpo landfills and its periphery region was carried out. The study area was defined to a square $(81km^2)$ of which center was located at 250m in front of Andongpo, Komdan-myon, Kimpo-gun in the northwest part of the Kyunggi Province. This study was accomplished by analyzing five qualitative traits such as ecological strategy, reproductive strategy, distribution type, native/foreign division and life-form throughout actual investigation of the flora. The flora was composed of 536 taxa which comprise 105 families, 343 genera, 458 species, 1 subaspecies, 70 varieties and 7 forms (including 92 species of horticultural plant). Lythrum salicaria community, Spiraea salicifolia community, ottelia alismoides community and woods of Alnus japonica were recorded ? 새 retrictive distribution according to habitat characteristics. Owing to severe anthropogenic interferences such as construction of the Kimpo landfills in the study areas, a high proportion of ruderal plants and neophytes in the floral composition was recognized. The proportion of individual distribution type and therophyte was very high throughout whole study areas, and plant communities in the reclaimed areas were characterized by high proportion of phalanx plant species. Analysis of the correlations between meshes with ecological traits of plant species showed that Kimpo landfills and its periphery region was divided into two vegetation types, coastal type and inland type, as a result of possible saline effects.

  • For providing basic data on estuary conservation and pattern of vegetation succession of sand bar, the flora of delta was investigated from March 2004 to August 2006 in the Nakdong River estuary of Korea. The flora in the eight surveyed areas was composed of total 159 taxa that belonged to 46 families, 123 genera, 133 species, 1 subspecies, 20 varieties, and 5 forms. Among them, naturalized plants and evergreen broad trees were 31 taxa and 5 taxa, respectively. The communities of main species at delta of estuary were composed of 16 species such as Rosa rugusa community, Scirpus triqueter community, Phragmites communis community, Carex kobomugi community, Digitaria ciliaris community. Especially, Rosa rugusa community which are important to establish the southern limit line of distribution as the northern factor was distributed through Jinwoodo. The succession of main vegetation community in the new delta (Doyodeung) was in order of Carex scabrifolia, Scirpus triqueter, Phragmites communis, Imperata cylindrica var. koenigii and Miscanthus sinensis var. purpurascens. Therefore, the succession order of the surveyed area seems to predict the pattern of the vegetation succession of another deltas in Nakdong River estuary.

  • With a purpose of finding out the influences of herbicide treatment on the forage value and ecological characteristics of grassland vegetations in the Rumex acetosella dominated pasture, this trial was arranged as a randomized block design with three treatments[1) Seeding(cntrol), 2)dicamba 4${\ell}$/ha+seeding+dicamba 4 ${\ell}$/ha and 3) dicamba 4${\ell}$/ha+lime+seeding+dicamba 4 ${\ell}$/ha], and conducted in Youngam, Jeonnam Province ftom June, 1995 to October, 1996. In the Rumex acetosella dominated pasture, the treatment of dicamba 4${\ell}$/ha+ lime+seeding+dicamba 4${\ell}$/ha was improved to the most desirable grassland vegetation with pasture plants of 87%. In the renovated grassland, the life forms of Hemicryptophytes increased greatly by 57.0%, on the other hand Geophytes was much more decreased by 56.8% than those of low productive grassland. The similarity coefficients between grassland vegetation groups were greatly affected by botanical composition. The forage value of standing crop in the renovated grassland with 6.56 was much more increased than low productive grassland with 2.76. The treatment of dicamba 4${\ell}$/ha+lime+ seedingdicamba 4${\ell}$/ha increased 2 1% of dry mattaer yield, and were high 18- 19% of energy (NEL and TDN) productivity than those of the control(seeding), respectively.

  • This study aims at classifying and interpreting on the vegetation structure and analyzing the correlationship between communities and environmental conditions in Mt. Wolchulsan. We also predicted the succession possibility and the vertical distribution change of vegetations according to the global warming, through the pioneer species of a forest change and dominant species of canopy vegetations. We also analyzed the Raunkiaer's life-form. The communities in this ecotone are distributed vertically in the order of a Quercus acuta community, a Q. serrata-Q. variabilis community and a Q. serrata community. A Pinus densiflora community appears on the most of altitudes. The distribution of communities correlates highly with an altitude. The Q. serrata-Q. variabilis community will be succession to the Q. acuta community, and the Q. variabilis will be under natural selection gradually or remain locally. The Q. serrata community will possibly maintain as it is, and the P. densiflora community will be also under natural selection gradually. The valuable quantitative and numerical life-forms are confirmed and the layer structure of present vegetation will not be changed.

  • Analysis of vegetation on the pavements and under the trees of streets in Seoul city were investigated from July to November 1989. All of the vascular herbs were 9 orders, 13 families, 30 genera, 37 species and 1 forma. Species diversity and evenness index were higher on the pavements than under the trees of streets. Eragrostis multicaulis with C-4 pathway was a dominant species, and next orders of importace values were Eleusine indica(C-4), Digitaria sanguinalis(C-4), Taraxacum officinale(C-3) and Erigeron annus(C-3). On the pavements and under the trees of streets, light intensity and surface temperature were very high, Also, these sites were affected by many kinds of human interferences. Therefore, it was an example of adaptation to specific ecological environments that C-4 plats were more dominant than C-3, growth forms of C-3 plants were rosette or prostrate, and annual or biennial plants were distributed in these studied sites. Generally, fruits types were grains, achens and capsules. Seeds were very small and some had appendages such as pappus.

  • Coniferous forests in the Baekdudaegan protected area are gradually losing their landscape diversity and uniqueness along with their ecological stability due to changes in vegetation composition and structures caused by various disturbance factors, such as climate change, vegetation succession, and human interference. This study provides basic data for establishing a comprehensive conservation plan for coniferous forests in the Baekdudaegan protected area. We classified the vegetation unit types using the Zurich-Montpellier School of Phytosociology and two-way indicator species analysis methods and analyzed the species diversity and structural characteristics based on the vegetation information of 755 stands collected in the natural resources change survey of the Baekdudaegan mountains (2016 to 2020) by the Korea Forest Service. Therefore, the vegetation of the coniferous forests of theBaekdudaegan protected area was classified into 15 types under the vegetation unit hierarchy of two community groups, four communities, seven sub-communities, and 14 variants. Furthermore, we compared the total coverage among vegetation types, importance values, constancy classes, life-forms, and diversity indices. Additionally, the average total coverage and number of species per 100 m2 of all coniferous forests were 232% and 21 species, respectively, with the species diversity and dominance indices averaging 1.907 and 0.222, respectively.

  • Forest vegetation types were studied by the phytosociological investigation and the TWINSPAN method in Ulleung Island, Korea. Two hundred thirty-two releves were sampled with $100m^2$ plots. Two main vegetation types, the mountain forest(Acer okamotoanum community group) and maritime forest(Artemisia scoparia community group), have been distinguished and typified twenty-two vegetation units. The former was divided in 4 communities, 11 groups and 7 subgroups. The latter was 2 communities and 5 groups. In a case of life-forms of mountain and maritime vegetation type, the composition ratio of species that had featured trees and herbs, hemicrypthophyte, a seed dispersion-type by wind or nature falling and erection form was high in the mountain vegetation type. Species that had featured shrubs, chamaephyte, disseminated mainly by a wind in the herbs, and animals and man or no special modification in the woody, narrowest extent of rhizomatous growth and the clonal growth by stolons and struck roots and procumbent form were abundantly distributed in the maritime bluff vegetation type. Particularly, the composition ratio of Sambucus sieboldiana var. pendula community(A6), disturbed vegetation type of middle-lower slope of mountain, that had featured a seed dispersion-type by wind, moderate and narrowest extent of rhizomatous growth and Tussock form was high.

  • This research was executed to analyze the problems of Korean type of 'Light-weight' Greening that has been applied similarly by the type of 'Intensive Greening,' and to suggest the better way. To achieve this purpose, we compared and analyzed the theory about the definition of Korean type of Roof Greening and the type of Greening of FLL. And we researched documents and fields of 18 sites of Seoul City that applied the type of 'Light-weigh' Greening, and produced improvement issues and directions. To resolve the confusion of the type definition and site application, arising from considering 'weight of greening' as the main viewpoint to classify the type of Greening, we have to change the term 'Light-weight' with more suitable for contents-based definitions. According to a 'Light-weight' Greening field survey, only 5 among 18 sites are suitable for Extensive Greening and the rest sites show the character of Intensive Greening. Korean concept of 'Light-weight' Greening corresponds with the definition of 'Weight of Greening', but has a problem that does not correspond with the viewpoint of 'Maintenance of Greening'. This problem comes from the fact that the surveyed Light-weight(extensive) Greening sites are designed and executed for use. Therefore, Extensive Greening is proper to be applied for sites, excluded from use. 5 sites, determined suitable for Extensive Greening, adopts 'Sedum-herbaceous Planting' or 'Sedum-grasses Planting' forms of Greening, based on Sedum. So, it has to precede with selecting and breeding plants for developing various forms of Greening, suitable for Extensive Greening including 'Grasses-herbaceous Planting.'

  • The flora of vascular plants and the present vegetation status of Minjujisan and its adjacent regions were investigated from 2000 to 2004, total 27 times. The plant taxa of these areas consist of 764 taxa totally; 172 families, 397 genera, 631 species, 3 subspecies, 105 varieties and 25 forms. There were many useful plants such as 35 taxa of Korean endemics, 12 taxa of rare and endangered plants, and 101 taxa of specially designated plants which were determined by the Ministry of Environment. Furthermore, 46 taxa of naturalized alien plants were also investigated in the boundary of developing areas. The vegetation status of investigated area was comparatively well conserved, but the degree of damage was increasing rapidly by development, deforestation, and tramp which were induced by the disturbances of human beings. Therefore, more active conservation strategies such as expanded designation of conservation area. should be established, and carried out continuously based on the results of long-term monitoring studies.
