화상처리법을 이용한 곡면변형률 측정 시스템의 개발 (Development of a Surface-Strain Measurement System Using the Image Processing Technique)

  • An automated surface-strain measuring system using the image processing technique is developed in the present study which consists of the hardware to capture and to display digital images. and the software to calculate the 3-D informations of grid points from two views. New or improved algorithms for the mapping and establishing correspondence of grid points and elements the camera calibration and the subpixel measurement of grid points are implemented. As an application of the present system the surface-strains of deformed blanks in the limitting dome height test the square cup deep-drawing and punch stretching to obtain the forming limit diagram are measured. The results are com-pared with those obtained by conventional manual methods.

  • This study introduces the new way for the evaluation criteria of the Mash-Seam Tailored Blank weldability, The materials used are low carbon automotive galvanized and high strength steels and the evaluation of weldability are examined with various thickness. Welding tests were conducted for both similar thickness and dissimilar thickness cases. The criteria developed for optimum welding conditions were based on the relationship among results of die press forming test, forming limit diagram, Erichsen test and microhardness measurements. The application of the developed criteria(fracture ratio, strength ratio, etc) in obtaining optimum welding condition revealed that a weld which satisfied ant of the criteria did not fracture during actual die press test and FLD dome test.

Valve-Spring Retainer의 성형공정개선에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Improvement of Forming Processes of Valve-Spring Retainer)

  • The conventional five-stage forming processes of the valve-spring retainer are simulated using the rigid-plstiv finite element method. As a design criterion the improved process should satisfy the maximum forging load during processes within the loading limit of the available press and should not induce any geometrical defects. hollow bars are recommended as initial billets to skip the heading and piercing processes. Through various simulations it is found out that the one stage process results in less forging loads and better strain distributions.

고강도강 마운팅브라켓의 성형성 향상 및 스프링백 예측에 관한 연구 (Research on Improved Formability of High-Strength Steel Mounting Brackets and Springback Prediction)

  • To reduce the weight of the car and ensure the safety of the driver while driving, the existing 440 MPa-class mounting bracket was treated at 590MPa to improve collision safety and secure the weight of the vehicle body. The following conclusions were drawn from the tensile test, forming analysis, and springback prediction. In the formability and springback analyses using FLD, it could be confirmed that bending was an essential process because the formability and flatness were much better when bending was added than when bending was not applied. Based on the research results, it was deduced that the mold design was necessary so that the molding was carried out at a strain rate of 20% or less for stable molding.

  • Magnesium alloys are currently expected to be widely used for weight reduction of cars and as high efficient materials in the automotive and electronics industries. Although the specific strength of magnesium is excellent, it cannot be easily formed at room temperature due to its HCP structure. However in order to improve the formability of magnesium, it is necessary to investigate its formability in the warm temperature range. In the current study, the aim was to add to the magnesium property database so that the mass production of a magnesium car body can be accomplished. Warm tensile tests were conducted and the forming limit diagram was determined to confirm formability characteristics of magnesium AZ31B alloy sheet. In addition the bending formability and the magnesium damping capacity were evaluated for AZ31B and compared to SPRC440E which is a sheet steel used for car bodies.

  • The occurrence of ductile fracture is the working limit of many metal forming processes. It is necessary to predict the criteria and to apply the condition in a process design. Over the years. the way for clarifying conditions have been studied and presented. However such a way needs lots of experiments and analysis. In this study, in order to determine the critical damage value of a used material Cu 4N, it was performed a tensile test and FEM analysis by using DEFORM 2D. For applying the obtained critical damage value it was also performed a upsetting test by using DEFORM 2D. The way of determining a critical damage value which is presented in this study will make possible to find easily it which is one of the working limit factor. And the way of determining a critical damage value will make possible to find in multi-pass drawing process.

  • Warm deep drawing which is one of the new forming technologies to improve formability of sheet metal is applied to the cylindrical cup drawing of Mg-alloy sheet metal. In experiments the temperature of die and blank holder is varied from room temperature to $300^{\circ}C$, while the punch is cooled by circulation of coolant to increase the fracture strength of workpiece on the punch corner area. Test material chosen for experiments is AZ31 magnesium sheet metal. Teflon film as a lubricant is used on both sides of a workpiece. The limit drawing ratio as well as thickness distributions of drawn cups are investigated and validity of warm deep drawing process is also discussed.

  • A design methodology is applied for manufacturing a disk-brake piston component and a washing machine container. The design criteria are the limit drawing ratio and the forging load within the available press limit. Also, the final product should not have any geometrical defect. The rigid-plastic and elastic-plastic FEM have been applied to simulate both of the conventional manufacturing processes, respectively, which include deep drawing and forging process. Simulations of one stage process from a selected stock to the final product shape are performed for generating information on additional requirements for metal flow. The best manufacturing processes are selected, which is using a hemispherical punch in the deep drawing process for both disk-brake piston component and washing machine container.

  • Shrink-rings (Stress-rings) are used in the fabrication of dies for cold forming and powder compaction processes to increase the allowable pressures for a given die material. Optimum procedures are to minimize a die thickness under the conditions that the stress distributions in the die and stress-rings utilize fully the strength available in each of the die elements. This paper proposes a new approach, where the maximum allowable shrinking pressures are calculated on shrinkage plans in the radial direction and the fractional shrinking pressures below the maximum allowable pressures are used as the design values. Two criteria for the optimal die design are used: Maximum shear stress limit for one-piece dies and zero tensile stress limit for combined dies. A computer program, DIECOM, is developed for illustrating the computer-aided design procedures. Finally, examples for each case are presented in this paper.

  • This paper presents the analysis of the required limit on a multibeam active phased array antenna (APAA) aperture using the statistical simulation for a High Altitude Platform Station (HAPS). The simulation takes into account the random errors caused by the non-identity of the array elements and the inaccuracy of the antenna calibration. The results of our statistical simulation show that the strict requirements on the sidelobe envelope for HAPSs can be met when the amplitude and phase distribution errors are minor, a condition which may be achieved by using digital beam forming.
