Friction for sheet metal forming affects improvement of deep drawing formability. The deep drawing is affected by many process variables, such as lubricant, blank shapes, shape radius and so on. Especially, lubrication is very important formability factor. In this study, in order to investigate fraction coefficient of sheet metal forming, we examined friction test about three conditions, such as non-lubrication, full lubrication and film lubrication. We measured friction coefficient according to pin load under the conditions like deep drawing die. Mean friction coefficient for film lubrication condition would be very useful value to improve drawability.
This paper aims to investigate the micro-mechanical behaviour of tow geometry with forming pressures and densities of foams during the curing process of plain weave carbon fibre fabric prepregs onto polymer foams. In order to find out and compare deformation patterns between different forming conditions, tow parameters such as amplitude and crimp angle etc. are investigated. From the observation results, geometric difference in the tow architecture with respect to forming conditions and foam characteristics were found. To observe the micro-deformation of the fabric structure, appropriate specimens from carbon fibre-foam sandwich structures are sectioned and observed under the microscope.
The study presents a computer-aided analysis and its design for the forming process of .OMEGA. -type bellows tubes. Finite element analysis was carried out to perform the process simulation. Bsed on the analytic results of various conditions, the forming conditions used for angled U-type bellows tubes were determined. The 3-D modeling was constructed by I-DEAS and the process simulation was constructed by PAM- STAMP. It is concluded that the difference of height between die and bellows during the forming process causes a non-uniform shape of the bellows and also influences .OMEGA. -shape. These results can be utilized for the process design.
This study examines the forming properties and forming loads needed to increase the edge thickness on the external face of a plate using finite element analysis(FEA). Recently, forming optimization techniques within FEA are being extensively used in designing the optimal forming conditions for processes like forging, extrusion, rolling, and spinning. Most of these existing forming operations involve reducing the volume per unit length, but research for increasing volume per unit length is not very extensive. For this study we chose an automotive engine flywheel which is a welded assembly of a plate and a gear with each component having a different thickness. We considered a forming technique to increase the thickness in order to allow the machining of the gear directly on the external face of plate alleviating the need for a weld. To study various forming techniques, we used the finite element method with the flow stress of material and incremental forming steps. We conclude from this study that the analysis of forming properties and forming loads by using the finite element analysis and testing is useful as a method to increase the thickness per unit length.
Due to their low densities and high specific strength and stiffness, magnesium alloy sheets are very attractive lightweight materials for automotive and electrical products. However, the magnesium alloy sheets are usually formed at elevated temperature because of their poor formability at room temperature. To use of the magnesium alloy sheets for an industrial, their mechanical properties at elevated temperature and appropriate forming process conditions have to be developed. In this study, non-isothermal simulations of a square cup drawing from magnesium alloy sheets have been conducted to evaluate a proper forming process conditions such as the tool temperature, the tool shoulder radius, friction between the blank and the tools. According to this study, appropriate forming process conditions of square cup drawing at elevated temperature from magnesium alloy sheets are suggested.
Numerical analysis and dynamic material properties are required to analyze the behavior of workpiece during an electrohydraulic forming (EHF) process. In this study, EHF experiments were conducted under three conditions (6, 7, 8 kV). Dynamic material properties of Al 5052-H34 were inversely estimated through an ANN (Artificial Neural Network) model constructed based on LS-Dyna analysis results. Parameters of Cowper-Symonds constitutive equation, C and p, were used to implement dynamic material properties. By comparing experimental results of three conditions with ANN model results, optimized parameters were obtained. To determine the reliability of the derived parameters, experimental results, LS-Dyna analysis results, and ANN results of three conditions were compared using MSE and SMAPE. Valid parameters were obtained because values of indicators were within confidence intervals.
Cylindrical dry forming mould was developed to carry out a feasibility study of dry forming of papers. The effect of disintegration, forming, humidification and pressing on dry formed papers was examined. Dry disintegrated fibers showed the similar fiber length distribution to wet disintegrated fibers, but they showed distorsion and damaged appearance on the surface. Process parameters required to form a uniform fiber pad was investigated. A proper screening and air dispersion method was selected that gives proper formation. Humidification and pressing conditions were examined to get a good dry formed papers in dry forming. Results showed that dry forming method can be used to make a sheets with reasonable formation and properties.
In this paper, the forming limits of laser welded blank sheets are introduced, obtained from a tensile test and a hemispherical dome punch test. Especially, the forming limit diagram(FLD) on the heat affected zone with a width 2.54mm is emphasized. Also, the experimental experiences in finding specific strain conditions are discussed.
