Comparison of Biomechanical Properties of Dura Mater Substitutes and Cranial Human Dura Mater : An In Vitro Study

  • Objective : The aim of this study was to investigate the biomechanical differences between human dura mater and dura mater substitutes to optimize biomimetic materials. Methods : Four groups were investigated. Group I used cranial dura mater (n=10), group II used $Gore-Tex^{(R)}$ Expanded Cardiovascular Patch (W.L. Gore & Associates Inc., Flagstaff, AZ, USA) (n=6), group III used $Durepair^{(R)}$ (Medtronic Inc., Goleta, CA, USA) (n=6), and group IV used $Tutopatch^{(R)}$ (Tutogen Medical GmbH, Neunkirchen am Brand, Germany) (n=6). We used an axial compression machine to measure maximum tensile strength. Results : The mean tensile strengths were $7.01{\pm}0.77MPa$ for group I, $22.03{\pm}0.60MPa$ for group II, $19.59{\pm}0.65MPa$ for group III, and $3.51{\pm}0.63MPa$ for group IV. The materials in groups II and III were stronger than those in group I. However, the materials in group IV were weaker than those in group I. Conclusion : An important dura mater graft property is biomechanical similarity to cranial human dura mater. This biomechanical study contributed to the future development of artificial dura mater substitutes with biomechanical properties similar to those of human dura mater.

포렌식 관점에서의 Element 인스턴트 메신저 아티팩트 분석 (Forensic Analysis of Element Instant Messenger Artifacts)

  • 최근 개인정보보호를 목적으로 데이터를 암호화해 저장하고 보안에 초점을 맞춰 종단 간 암호화 등의 서비스를 제공하는 메신저들이 등장하면서 수사에 어려움을 겪고 있다. 이에 보안 메신저를 악용하는 범죄사례는 늘고 있지만, 보안 메신저에 대한 데이터 복호화 연구는 필요하다. Element 보안 메신저는 대화 참여자만 대화 이력을 확인할 수 있도록 종단 간 암호화 기능을 제공하고 있으나 이를 복호화하는 연구는 미흡하다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 종단 간 암호화 기능을 제공하는 인스턴트 메신저 Element를 분석하고, 사용자의 패스워드 없이 Windows 자격 증명 관리자 서비스에 저장된 복호화키를 활용하여 암호화된 보안 채팅방의 이력을 평문으로 확인하는 방안을 제안한다. 또한, 디지털 포렌식 수사관점에서 유의미한 일반 및 보안 채팅 관련 아티팩트를 분석한 결과를 정리한다.

  • 과거에 비해 현재의 디스크 저장 공간은 비약적으로 증가하고 있으며, 네트워크상에서도 이전과 비교할 수 없는 수많은 데이터들이 처리되고 있다. 이러한 데이터의 대용량화는 앞으로도 계속 될 추세이지만, 그에 비해 포렌식 관점에서 데이터를 이미징 하는 시간을 개선시키기 위한 연구는 부족한 상황이다. 본 논문은 데이터 이미징 시간을 개선시키기 위한 방안으로 전체 이미징 소요시간 중 해시함수에 대한 소요시간을 암호학적 관점에서 살펴보고, 이를 토대로 EWF 파일 이미징 과정에 대한 효율성 개선 방안을 제안한다.

Detection of Fragment Length Polymorphism of the VNTR Loci D1S80 and D2S123 by PCR Amplification, PAGE and Silver Staining

  • The highly polymorphic variable number of tandem repeat (VNTR) loci in the human genome are informative markers for the genetic characterization of individuals in the paternity test and forensic science as well as for the study of human disease. In this study, VNTR loci D1S80 and D2S123 have been amplified by PCR and the amplified length polymorphic alleles were detected with a discontinuous vertical PAGE system and silver staining. For explicit DNA typing, PCR optimization, in which amplification efficiencies are similar over a wide range of allele sizes, non-specific amplifications are minimal, and new longer alleles have high amplification efficiency, has been performed by changing the PCR reaction buffer composition and thermal cycling conditions. It turned out that adding an appropriate amount of Tween 20 and NP40 to the PCR reaction buffer and raising the annealing temperature to $68^{\circ}C$ in thermal cycling made it possible for optimal VNTR loci amplification. A modified PAGE system for VNTR separation was established. Under these conditions, new longer alleles in the 01580 locus were discovered and 025123 pattern changes in colorectal tumors were observed. These technical tips are valuable for detecting various amplified fragment length polymorphisms.

Optimization of a Multiplex DNA Amplification of Three Short Tandem Repeat Loci for Genetic Identification

  • Short tendem repeat (STR) loci have been used in the field of forensic science. There are literally hundreds of STR systems which have been mapped throughout the human genome. These STR loci are found in almost every chromosome in the genome. They may be amplified using a variety of PCR primers. In this study, a DNA genotyping system based on the multiplex amplification of highly polymorphic STR loci was developed. Three STR loci with nonoverlapping allele size ranges have been utilized in the multiplex amplification including the Neurotensin receptor gene, D21S11, and Human tyrosine hydroxylase gene. The optimal condition for triplex PCr was obtained in a solution with a total volume of $25{\mu}l$ containing 2.0 U of Taq polymerase, 3 mM of $MgCl_2$, $300{\mu}M$ of dNTP, 10 pmole of each primer set, an annealing temperature of $62^{\circ}C$, and 35 cycles. The optimized condition was successfully employed in a family paternity test.

Plastic mechanism analysis of vehicle roof frames consisting of spot-welded steel hat sections

  • Plastic mechanism analysis of structures subjected to large deformation has long been used in order to determine collapse mechanisms of steel structures, and the energy absorbed in plastic deformation during such collapses. In this paper the technique is applied to vehicle roof structures that undergo large plastic deformation as a result of rollover crashes. The components of such roof structures are typically steel spot-welded hat-type sections. Ten different deformation mechanisms are defined from investigations of real-world rollover crashes, and an analytical technique to determine the plastic collapse load and energy absorption of such mechanisms is determined. The procedure is presented in a generic manner, such that it may be applied to any vehicle structure undergoing a rollover induced collapse. The procedure is applied to an exemplar vehicle, in order to demonstrate its application in determining the energy absorbed in the deformation of the identified collapse mechanisms. The procedure will be useful to forensic crash reconstructionists, in order to accurately determine the initial travel velocity of a vehicle that has undergone a rollover and for which the post-crash vehicle deformation is known. It may also be used to perform analytical studies of the collapse resistance of vehicle roof structures for optimisation purposes, which is also demonstrated with an analysis of the effect of varying the geometric and material properties of the roof structure components of the exemplar vehicle.

USIM 포렌식 툴에 관한 연구 (A study for USIM Forensic Tools)

  • 정보 통신기술의 발전으로 단말기와 네트워크에 독립적인 부가서비스를 이용할 수 있는 개방형 가입자인증 카드인 USIM(Universal Subscriber Identification Module) 카드가 이용되고 있다. 모바일 정보기기의 성능 향상으로 다양한 기능이 추가되고 USIM에 저장된 개인정보의 중요성이 부각되어 범죄 도구로 이용될 가능성이 높아 졌으며 법정 증거자료로서의 중요성도 증가되었다. 모바일 포렌식은 기존의 데이터 저장장치와는 다른 파일시스템을 가지고 있기 때문에 거기에 맞는 전용 포렌식 툴들이 필요하며, USIM과 관련된 범죄가 일어날 때, 자료의 복구와 빠른 검사를 통해 법적 증거화 시킬 수 있는 USIM 포렌식 틀을 요구한다. 본 논문에서는 USIM의 기본적인 구조와 파일시스템을 분석하고 USIM 포렌식 관점에서 증거화 시킬 수 있는 다양한 유형과 절차들을 알아보고, 현재 사용 중인 USIM 포렌식 툴들에 대해 비교 분석한다.

경찰 과학수사요원의 외상 후 스트레스 장애 발생 영향요인 (Factors Influencing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in Crime Scene Investigators)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to verify the relationships among social support, resilience and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and especially to identify factors influencing PTSD in police crime scene investigators. Methods: A cross-sectional design was used, with a convenience sample of 226 police crime scene investigators from 7 Metropolitan Police Agencies. Data were collected through self-report questionnaires during July and August, 2015. Data were analyzed using t-test, ${\chi}^2$-test, Fisher's exact test, and binary logistic regression analysis with SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. Results: The mean score for PTSD in police crime scene investigators was 13.69 .11 points. Of the crime scene investigators 181 (80.1%) were in the low-risk group and 45 (19.9%) in high-risk group. Social support (t=5.68, p<.001) and resilience (t=5.47, p<.001) were higher in the low-risk group compared to the high-risk group. Logistic regression analysis showed that resilience (OR=4.74, 95% CI: 1.57~14.35), and social support (OR=2.13, 95% CI: 1.23~3.69) are effect factors for PTSD low group. Conclusion: For effective improvement of PTSD in police crime scene investigators, intervention programs including social support and strategies to increase should be established.

소방공무원의 직무스트레스, 사회심리적 요인 및 수면의 질이 피로수준에 미치는 영향에 대한 공분산 구조분석 (Covariance Structure Analysis on the Impact of Job Stress, Psychological Factors and Sleep Quality on Fatigue Symptoms among Fire Fighters)

  • 본 연구는 공분산구조분석을 이용하여 소방공무원의 직무스트레스, 사회심리적 요인(A형 행동유형, 자기존중감, 통제신념) 및 수면의 질이 피로수준에 미치는 영향을 규명하고자 하였다. 공분산 구조분석 결과, 피로수준에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 요소는 직무스트레스 요인에 이어, 사회심리적 요인, 수면의 질 순서로 나타났다. 이와 같은 결과는 소방공무원의 피로수준이 직무스트레스, 사회심리적 요인, 수면의 질과의 인과관계가 성립됨을 시사한다. 따라서 소방공무원의 피로수준 감소를 위한 근무환경의 개선뿐만 아니라 제도적인 뒷받침이 필요하리라 생각된다.

119구급대원의 폭력경험과 탄력성이 소진에 미치는 영향 (Association of Violent Experience and Resilience with Burnout in Emergency Medical Technicians)

  • Purpose: This descriptive correlational study investigated the effects of violent experience and resilience on burnout in emergency medical technicians (EMTs). Methods: The participants were 160 EMTs working in fire stations (safety center and local center) located in U, B, and D city. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, independent t-test, ANOVA, $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test post-hoc analysis, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis using IBM SPSS Statistics 20.0. Results: The number of EMTs getting into ambulances was significantly associated with violent experience, resilience, and burnout. Position of EMTs was significantly associated with both resilience and burnout. In the multiple regression analysis, the subscales of durability and optimism in resilience were significantly associated with burnout after controlling for confounding variables. Conclusion: This study indicated that improving durability and optimism in resilience was important to cope with experience of violence and to prevent burnout in EMTs.
