  • Penetrating neck injuries constitute 5-10% of all trauma cases. These injuries may cause life-threatening suppurative or vascular complications, but the severity and extent of damage depends upon the inflicting object and the involved structures. If significant complications are not expected, then it is best to leave the foreign body embedded and avoid surgical risks. We present a rare case of a foreign body embedded in the neck causing tinnitus and foreign body sensation.

  • Composite rotor blades for rotorcraft have an intrinsic vulnerability to foreign object impact from its inherent structural characteristics of insufficient strength in the thickness direction, which may easily lead to internal structure damage. Therefore, defects and strength reducing effects caused by foreign object impact should be considered in fatigue evaluation of composite blades. For this purpose, the flaw tolerant safe-life and fail-safe concepts were adopted in fatigue evaluation since 1980s, and recently those concepts have been replaced by the damage tolerance concept. In this paper, the relevant standards for fatigue evaluation are analyzed focusing on fiber reinforced composite rotor blades used in rotorcraft. In addition, fatigue evaluation procedure of composite blades considering impact damages is proposed by reviewing the practices implemented through domestic development projects.

  • Damage caused by FOD which is a foreign substance at the movement area in airports around the world has reached 200 million every year. In 2000, the casualties occurred 133 people at charles de gaulle airport due to FOD. The occurrence of damage by FOD has continuously influenced in domestic also it makes equipment repair indirectly or directly. Accordingly, One of the solutions to the problem is the development of FOD automatic detection system. That is ongoing for plane movement area in airport. As the analyzed result, the military airport prefered mobile type and the civil airport prefered fixed type due to the characteristics of the operating type. In this paper, we analyzed the minimum performance specifications meeting the domestic requirements by investigating military and private FOD detection systems.

  • Some of gas turbine model of 7F-Class has constructed and is operating with units domestically. Non-destructive testing (NDT) is one of the methods being used to inspect damage $1^{st}$ stage bucket and review damage trends. We also analyze damage configuration and microstructure according to material and compare with pape of electric power research institute (EPRI). The damaged mode could be determined by leveraging failure analysis. Especially, configuration uprate of bucket is not only to prevent damage during operation but also avoid domestic manufacturing by the competitors. Modifications were mainly concentrated on surfaces such as cooling hole and bucket tips. Analyzing of bucket damage, the earlier model of 7F-Class used with one cycle with equivalent operation hour (EOH), has various cracking of the bucket surface. Bucket damage of new model is centered on tip area (54%) as analyzed by EPRI research. We conclude that improving bucket configuration would increase repair rate on the bucket tip.

  • Recently the wind energy has been alternatively used as a renewable energy resource instead of the mostly used fossil fuel due to its lack and environmental issues. This work is to propose a structural design and analysis procedure for development of the low noise 100W class small wind turbine system which will be applicable to relatively low speed region like Korea and for the domestic use. Structural analysis including load cases, stress, deformation, buckling, vibration and fatigue life was performed using the Finite Element Method, the load spectrum analysis and the Miner rule. In order to evaluate the designed structure, the structural test was carried out and its test results were compared with the estimated results. In addition, the blade should be safe from the impact damage due to FOD(Foreign Object Damage) including the bird strike. In order to analize the bird strike penomena on the blade, MSC. Dytran was used, and the applied method Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian was evalud by comparison with the previous study results.

  • The impact behaviour and the impact-induced damage in laminated composite cylindrical shell subjected to transverse impact by a foreign object are studied using three-dimensional non-linear transient dynamic finite element formulation. A layered version of 20 noded hexahedral element incorporating geometrical non-linearity is developed based on total Langragian approach. Non-linear system of equations resulting from non-linear strain displacement relation and non-linear contact loading are solved using Newton-Raphson incremental-iterative method. Some example problems of graphite/epoxy cylindrical shell panels are considered with variation of impactor and laminate parameters and influence of geometrical non-linear effect on the impact response and the resulting damage is investigated.

  • An experimental study on the effects of temperature change on the impact damages of CFRP aminates was made through an observation of the interrelations between the Impact energy vs. delamination area, the impact energy vs. residual bending strength, and the delamination area vs. the decreasing of the residual bending strength for CF/EPOXY and CF/PEEK composite laminates subjected to FOD (Foreign Object Damage) under high temperatures.

  • Crime victims have had features of both causing a crime and the object of protection from the society. These contrasting characteristics have led to develop victimology. As the result, the classification of the victim has been generalized. Direct damage caused by the crime victim is grouped into the first damage, and collateral damages caused by the 1st one are could be identified as the 2nd or the 3rd one. In this paper, it is aimed that problems of victim classification in Korea have been studied by comparing foreign countries' classification.

  • This paper suggests to standardize railway accident restoration types as the standardized code and to develop standard operation procedures(SOP) for the efficient railway accident management and recovery system. First of all, occurred damage types as the existing railway accident types in both domestic and foreign cases have been carefully analyzed and then reclassified. Therefore, this study suggested the combination of 3 distinct code factors: restoration class, restoration object, and restoration location to standardize them. In addition, temporary restoration SOP will play a major role in the railway accident batabase management system and SOP for the damage limitation and the prevention of accident spread.
