ISO 9000 Series International Standard have been established in 1987 and world trading patterns have changed into the request of ISO 9000 series approval. About 1100 domestic companies have currently obtained ISO 9000 series approval from domestic or foreign certification bodies. This paper presents the current status of ISO approval of domestic industries, a case study of a valve manufacturing company in Pusan, procedures for obtaining ISO approval, predictable effects as a result of approval, and recommendations.

Perforation of the esophagus is an uncommon problem with significant morbidity and mortality. In children undergoing endoscopy, the risk of perforation is higher when interventional endoscopy is performed. The clinical features depend upon the site of esophageal perforation. Opinions vary regarding the optimal treatment protocol, and the role of conservative management in this context is not well established. Esophageal perforation that occurs as a consequence of endoscopy in children requires careful evaluation and management, as outlined in this article.

"Paraffinoma" is a well-recognized complication of paraffin oil injection into various body parts for an aesthetic purpose. After a variable latency phase, paraffinoma can present as a wide range of clinical symptoms. This paper is a case report of surgical excision of the paraffinoma and subsequent reconstruction of the associated skin defect on bilateral preauricular cheeks, manifesting 50 years after a primary injection.

The 50-year-old female patient was admitted to our hospital because of dysphagia and foreign body sensation on the neck after swallowing of solid foods 5 days ago. Esophagoscopic findings, performed on 2 days prior to admission, revealed no pathology. She had no history of preexisting esophageal disease. Under the diagnosis of the cervical esophageal perforation by routine studies such as simple chest, neck x-ray films and clinical findings, incision and drainage on the retropharyngeal space was done. Postoperatively we found the protruded degenerative spur on the 5th and 6th cervical vertebral bodies, and we considered that esophageal perforation in this case was predisposed by cervical spur. The postoperative course was uneventful.

Othematoma is a condition in which blood collects beneath the perichondral layer of the pinna. Recurrent auricular hematoma can be a challenging medical problem, with complications resulting in ear deformity, therefore, appropriate management is important. Improper treatment can result in a deformity known as 'cauliflower ear' or 'wrestler's ear.' We report a case of othematoma that was inappropriately treated and present a review of current treatment options.

A 34 year-old woman was hospitalized with anterior chest pain and indigestion. Chest radiograph and computed tomogram revealed a sewing needle in the cardiac cavity. She had no histories of surgical intervention, drug abuse, or acupuncture. We removed the needle from the right ventricle under cardiopulmonary bypass.

식도이물은 이비인후과영역에서 흔히 볼 수 있는 것이며 많은 증례 및 통계학적고찰이 보고된 바 있다. 저자는 양잿물을 삼킨적이 있는 57세 여자에서 담낭관을 실로 묶어서 담즙을 함유하고 있는 개(狗)의 쓸개(膽囊)를 씹지 않고 삼키다가 식도의 제이생리협착부와 제삼생리협착부사이에 개재된 흥미있는 식도이물 1례를 보고하는 바이다.

식도이물은 대부분의 경우 식도경하에서 적출이 가능하지만 이물이 예리하여 적출시 더 큰 위험을 초래할 수 있거나, 식도강에 단단히 박혀있어 적출이 곤란한 경우 혹은 식도벽을 뚫고 들어가 농양을 형성한 경우등에서는 외과적 적출을 시도할 수 밖에 없다. 최근 저자들은 진행성근위축증을 가진 59세 남자의 의치가 식도 제 3협착부에 깊숙히 박혀있어 식도경하적출술을 시도하였으나 실패하여 흉부적출출로 제거한 예가 있기에 보고하는 바이다.
