First, more than half of researches have been carried out in teaching and learning, understanding of statistical concepts in both of domestic and foreign journals. Second, some researches on the affective effect were carried out in foreign journals, but not in domestic journals. Third, researches on the teacher education were carried out mainly for the pre-service teachers in domestic journals, but mainly for the in-service teachers in foreign journals. Fourth, empirical study was mainly used for the research method in domestic journals while both empirical and non-empirical study were used in foreign journals. Fifth, subjects of research were mainly secondary students in domestic journals, but over undergraduate students in foreign journals.

  • Despite the rapid adoption of electronic journals, the need for print journals still remains. The current level of foreign journals acquisition poses a threat to strengthening the national research capabilities. Furthermore, there is too much overlap among academic libraries for foreign journals. We propose the establishment of government funded foreign research information centers to systematically acquire and distribute foreign print journals. We discuss specific approaches to selecting and operating such centers. Foreign research information centers are expected to enhance the national scholarly information infrastructure as well as the academic libraries' core capabilities.

  • There have been little comprehensive research for studying impact of foreign journals on Korean scientists. The main reason for this is because there was no extensive citation index database of domestic journals for analysis. Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) built the Korea Science Citation Database (KSCD), and have provided Korea Science Citation Index (KSCI) and Korea Journal Citation Reports (KJCR) services. In this article, citing behavior of Korean scientists on foreign journals was examined by using KSCD that covers Korean core journals. This research covers (1) analysis of foreign document types cited, (2) analysis of citation counts of foreign journals by subject and the ratio of citing different disciplines, (3) analysis of language and country of foreign documents cited, (4) analysis of publishers of journals and whether or not journals are listed on global citation index services and (5) analysis for current situation of subscribing to foreign electronic journals in Korea. The results of this research would be useful for establishing strategies for licensing foreign electronic journals and for information services. From this research, immediacy citation rate (average 1.46%), peak-time (average 3.9 years) and half-life (average 8 years) of cited foreign journals were identified. It was also found that Korean scientistis tend to cite journals covered in SCI(E) or SCOPUS, and 90% of cited foreign journals have been licensed by institutions in Korea.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the trends in domestic and international gifted education in the last six years (2010-2015) by utilizing social network analysis methods. For papers of gifted education in Korea, two KCI (Korea Citation Index) rated journals, the 'Gifted/Talented Education' (The Korean Society for the Gifted) and 'Gifted and Talented Education' (The Korean Society for the Gifted and Talented Education) were selected and 457 pieces published in two journals were collected. The papers of 347 published in SSCI rated journals, 'The Gifted Child Quarterly,' 'Journal for the Education of the Gifted,' and 'High Ability Studies' were selected. English keywords were extracted from 457 papers from Korean journals and 347 papers from foreign journals and the Social Network Analysis (SNA) way was utilized for keyword frequency and central network analyses. It was appeared that the trends of paper keywords from domestic and foreign countries showed common keywords, 'academically gifted', 'science gifted', and 'gifted' as center keyword frequency, and keywords, 'achievement', 'identification', 'intelligence' appeared as the most frequent ones. For domestic papers, keywords, 'creativity', 'gifted education', and 'gifted education teacher' were the highest frequent keywords while keywords, 'foreign countries', and 'student attitudes' were most frequent ones for the foreign countries. For the analysis of papers from five journals as one group, it was found that keywords, 'identification', 'intelligence', and 'achievement' were the most important common ones and keywords, 'cognitive', 'motivation', and 'self-concept' were appeared as important keywords. The trend of gifted education in Korea seems to be different from ones of foreign countries, domestic papers of gifted education rarely included keywords of 'foreign examples', 'student attitudes', and 'gender differences.' Consequently, the trend of gifted education in Korea called for various research perspectives.

  • The purpose of this case study is to analyze the economics of journals of Science and Technology using the cost per use(CPU) approach. To achieve this purpose, we selected 1,745 foreign academic journals randomly among the holdings at K institute in Korea, and analyzed the relationships between the CPU and 5 factors of journal, i.e., Impact Factors (IF), Overlap numbers of holding with other institutes, Language, Cost, and Frequency of use. It is found that all factors, except IF, are significantly influence to the CPU of foreign journals, and further detailed analysis is provided in term of the group differences within each factors.

  • This study aimed at analyzing the 6 foreign reformed theological journals and index terms, authors to find out the intellectual structures and the characteristics of the journals, the authors. First, analyzing the index terms, we analyzed the main keywords and the increasing trend by period, second, analyzing the journals, we analyzed the main subject of them and the subjects of distinguishing features by the journals, third we analyzed the authors' profiling. The index terms were clustered four big clusters and 23 small clusters. The journals were clustered the two clusters, and we also analyzed the index terms to distinguish a journal from other journals. The authors were clustered the six clusters, the index terms the clusters of the authors shared were similar to the results of the two analyses. The biblical teachings of The Old Testament and the New Testament and reformed theology were core subject terms and it was consistent in the results of these three analyses. This study mainly aimed at analyzing the 6 foreign reformed theological journals, and we found out that the parts of the results of this study were similar to the results of analyzing the domestic reformed theological journals. Therefore, there should be more researches needed to figure out what the results of this study mean to Korean reformed theology.

The journals were selected from the union catalogs and were analyzed by using the Excel program. The results shows that 1)issues of a particular journal are irregularly scattered in many libraries sometimes lacking many issues 2)some journals are duplicated in many libraries 3)there are great differences in the number of journal subscriptions depending on the geographical differences. It is expected that these results could be well used for the cooperative library services in the future.
