  • This paper presents the road simulator control technology for reproducing the road input signal to implement the real road data. The simulator consists of the hydraulic pump, servo valve, hydraulic actuator and its control equipment. The QFT is utilized to control the simulator effectively. The control system illustrates a tracking performance of the closed-loop controller with low order transfer function G(s) and pre-filter F(s) for a parametric uncertain model. A force controller is designed to communicate the control signal between simulator and digital controller. The efficacy of the QFT force controller is verified through the numerical simulation, in which combined dynamics and actuation of the hydraulic servo system are tested. The simulation results show that the proposed control technique works well under uncertain hydraulic plant system. The conventional software (Labview) is used to make up for the real controller in the real-time basis, and the experimental works show that the proposed algorithm works well for a single road simulator.

  • This paper deals with a robust semi-active control algorithm which is applicable to a semi-active suspension with a multi-state damper. Since the controllable damping rates are discrete in case of a multi-state semi-active damper, the desired damping rate can not be produced exactly even if force-velocity relations of a multi-state semi-active damper is completely known. In addition, damping characteristics of the semi-active dampers are different from damper to damper. A robust nonlinear control law based on sliding control is developed. The main objective of the proposed control strategies is to improve ride quality by tracking the desired active force with a multi-state damper of which the force-velocity relations are "not" completely known. The performance of th proposed semi-active control law is numerically compared to those of the control law based on a bilinear model and a passive suspension. The proposed control algorithm is robust to nonlinear characteristics and uncertainty of the force-Velocity relations of multi-state dampers.

  • In this paper, depth and course controllers of autonomous underwater vehicles using H$_{\infty}$ servo control are proposed. An H$_{\infty}$ servo problem is formulated to design the controllers satisfying a robust tracking property with modeling errors and disturbances. The solution of the H$_{\infty}$ servo problem is as follows: first, this problem is modified as an H$_{\infty}$ control problem for the generalized plant that includes a reference input mode, and then a sub-optimal solution that satisfies a given performance criteria is calculated by LMI(Linear Matrix Inequality) approach. The H$_{\infty}$ depth and course controllers ate designed to satisfy with the robust stability about the modeling error generated from the perturbation of the hydrodynamic coefficients and the robust tracking property under disturbances(wave force, wave moment, tide). The performances(the robustness to the uncertainties, depth and course tracking properties) of the designed controllers are evaluated with computer simulations, and finally these simulation results show the usefulness and application of the proposed H$_{\infty}$ depth and course control systems.

  • A novel method to measure the interaction movement, focusing direction and tracking direction in an optical pick-up, is proposed and the decoupling control for it is discussed. First, the basic principle of the coupline analysis method using back electromotive farce is introduced. Second, the interaction analysis between focusing direction and tracking direction fur commercial slim type actuator is performed using the proposed method. Finally, the coupling analysis and decoupling control for the slim type optical pick-up are discussed. From the brief simulation, we shows that the effectiveness and validity of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, the depth controller of an underwater vehicle based on an $H_\infty$ servo control is designed for the depth keeping of the underwater vehicle under wave disturbances. The depth controller is designed in the form of the $H_\infty$ servo controller, which has robust tracking property, and an $H_\infty$ servo problem is considered for the $H_\infty$ servo controller design. In order to solve the $H_\infty$ servo problem for the underwater vehicle, this problem is modified as an $H_\infty$ control problem for the generalized plant that includes a reference input mode, and a suboptimal solution that satisfies a given performance criteria is calculated with the LMI (Linear Matrix Inequality) approach. The $H_\infty$ servo controller is designed to have robust stability about the perturbation of the parameters of the underwater vehicle and the robust tracking property of the underwater vehicle depth under wave force and moment disturbances. The performance, robustness about the uncertainties, and depth tracking property, of the designed depth controller is evaluated by computer simulation, and finally these simulation results show the usefulness and applicability of the proposed $H_\infty$ depth control system.

  • In this paper, a precise trajectory tracking method for mobile robot using a vision system is presented. In solving the problem of precise trajectory tracking, a hierarchical control structure is used which is composed of the path planer, vision system, and dynamic controller. When designing the dynamic controller, non-ideal conditions such as parameter variation, frictional force, and external disturbance are considered. The proposed controller can learn bounded control input for repetitive or periodic dynamics compensation which provides robust and adaptive learning capability. Moreover, the usage of vision system makes mobile robot compensate the cumulative location error which exists when relative sensor like encoder is used to locate the position of mobile robot. The effectiveness of the proposed control scheme is shown through computer simulation.

  • The robot control with safety consideration is required since robots and human work together in the same space more frequently in these days. For safety, robots must have compliance to human force and robust tracking performance with high impednace for the nonhuman disturbances. The novel idea is proposed to achieve the compliance and high impedance with one controller structure. For the compliance, the ISMC(Integral Sliding Mode Control) and HDOB(Human Disturbance Observer) The human force is identified by using the human band pass filter and its output is sent to the sliding surface. The sliding mode dynamic is affected by human disturbance and the compliance for human is achieved. The disturbances besides human frequencies are decoupled by the ISMC and the robust tracking is achieved. The additional LDOB(Low Frequency Disturbance Observer) decreases the maxim nonlinear gain and leads low chattering. The introduction of human disturbance into the sliding mode dynamic is the main novel idea of this paper.

  • This paper presents a force-reflecting teleoperation scheme with time delay. In reciprocal systems, to improve the stability and performance of the tleleoperation system, the network provides a wide bandwidth, no congestion. However, as use of Internet increases, congestion situation of network increased and transmission time and packet loss increased accordingly. This can make system unstable at remote control. In this paper, we present a passive control scheme for a force reflecting bilateral teleoperation system via the Internet and we investigated how a varying time delay affects the stability of a teleoperation system. A new approach based on a passive control scheme was designed for the system. The simulation results and the tracking performance of the implemented system are presented in this paper.

  • In this paper, we propose an adaptive control algorithm to improve the position accuracy and reduce the nonlinear friction effects for linear motion servo system. Especially, the considered system includes not only the variation of the mass of the mover but also the friction change by the normal force. To adapt to these problems, we designed the controller with the mass estimator and the compensator by observing the variation of normal force. Finally, the numerical simulation results are presented in order to show the effectiveness of the proposed method to improve the position accuracy compared to other control methods.
