Comparison of the Effects on Balance Abilities in the Women Elderly with Application TENS versus Balance Training (TENS 적용과 균형운동이 여성노인의 균형능력에 미치는 효과 비교)

  • his study was to investigate effects of improvement of balance abilities through 8-weeks Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) and balance training in the women elderly. 42 women elders who were participated in silver college. Randomized study design of two groups was used: TENS group (21 women, 84.53 years old) and balance training group(21 women, 79.93 years old). Each group had a application of TENS, balance training by a researcher three times per week for 8 weeks. Measurements of static postural sway velocity on the floor and foam, timed get up and go test (TUG), functional reach test (FRT), and lateral functional reach test (LFRT) were evaluated at initial presentation (pretest) and after completion of the each intervention program (posttest). The results showed that the TUG was significantly decreased in all groups (p<.05) and the postural sway velocity using force plate in all conditions was significantly decreased in all groups (p<.05). FRT and LFRT were significantly increased in all groups (p<.05). There were significantly differences in TUG and postural sway velocity on the eye closed condition between two groups (p<.05). In conclusion, the application of TENS to older adults whose somatosensory were deteriorated was effective for improvement balance ability.

Positional Stability Analysis of Trailing Aircraft in Formation Flight (편대비행에서 후방 항공기의 위치 안전성 분석)

  • Positional stability analysis based on aerodynamic forces and induced moments of formation flight using two small aircraft models is presented. The aerodynamic force and moments of the trailing aircraft are analyzed in the aspect of flight stability. The induced moments with the change of local flow direction by wing-tip vortex from the leading aircraft can affect the flight positional stability of aircraft in closed formation flight. Aerodynamic forces and moments of trailing aircraft model are measured by 6-component internal balance at the 49 locations with vertical and lateral space between two aircraft models. Results are shown that the positional stability of trailing aircraft in formation flight can be analyzed by positional stability derivatives with vertical and lateral space. It is concluded that flying positions can be important factors for aircraft position stability due to induced aerodynamic force and moments with vertical and lateral spacing by the variation of flow pattern from the leading aircraft in formation flight.

  • Effects of non-cleaning and cleaning fluxes on the wetting properties and defects at flow soldered joints were investigated. Non-cleaning flux (R-type of 3.3% solid content) and cleaning flux (RMA-type of 15% solid content) were used. Wetting test was accomplished by wetting balance method with changing surface state of wetting specimen, CU. Sn-37%Pb solder was used for wetting test and flow soldering. As experimental results, the wetting time for vertical force from the surface tension being zero was mainly affected by surface state of the wetting specimen. Non-cleaning flux had a good wettability compared with cleaning flux. In case of non-cleaning flux, conveyor speed had a great affection to defects of bridge, icicle, and poor solder.

  • Air entrainment of a winding roll with a nip roller was studied numerically. The amount of air entrainment between two rotating rollers was obtained by solving lubrication equation, Reynolds equation, which neglect the existence of a web. However, the numerical model of this study included the web existence, therefore it considered the two lubricating air films between a winding roll and a web and also between a nip roller and the web. The pressure profiles and gap profiles of the two films were obtained by solving lubrication equation for the two air films and force balance equation of the web. Ballooning phenomenon was examined in terms of nip force, wrap angle, web stiffness, web speed, and web tension. This ballooning phenomenon caused by the back flow of the air film blocked by the nip roller. Air entrainment of the two numerical models was compared.

  • This paper presents the optimal redundant actuation of parallel manipulators for complicated robotic applications such as cutting grinding drilling and digging that require a high degree of operational stiffness as well as the balance between force applicability and dexterity. First by taking into account the distribution(number and location) of active joints the statics and the operational stiffness of a redundant parallel manipulator are formulated and the effects of actuation redundancy are analyzed, Second for given task requirements including joint torque limit task force maximum allowable disturbance and maximum allowable deflection the task execution conditions of a redundant parallel manipulator are derived and the efficient testing formulas are provided. Third to achieve high operational stiffness while maintaining moderate dexterity the redundant actuation of a parallel manipulator is optimized which determines the optimal distribution of active joints and the optimal internal joint torque, Finally the simulation results for the optimal redundant actuation of a planar parallel manipulator are given.

  • This study predicts muscle forces acting on the lower extremity when the knee joint is in deep flexion. The whole body was approximated as a link model, and then the moment equilibrium equations at the lower extremity joints were derived far given reaction farces against the ground. Measurement of deep flexion was carried out by placing ten markers on the body. This study calculated the moment acting at each Joint from the equations of force and moment, classified the complicated muscles around the knee joint, and then predicted the muscle forces to balance the joint moment. Two models were proposed in this study: the simpler one that consists of three groups of muscle and the more detailed one of nine groups of muscle.

  • The sliding-belt concept introduced by Bechert et al. (AIAA J., Vol. 34, pp. 1072~1074) is numerically applied to a turbulent boundary layer flow for the skin-friction reduction. The sliding belt is moved by the shear force exerted on the exposed surface of the belt without other dynamic energy input. The boundary condition at the sliding belt is developed from the force balance. Direct numerical simulations are performed for a few cases of belt configuration. In the ideal case where the mechanical losses associated with the belt can be ignored, the belt velocity increases until the integration of the shear stress over the belt surface becomes zero, resulting in zero skin friction on the belt. From practical consideration of losses occurred In the belt device, a few different belt velocities are given to the sliding belt. It is found that the amount of drag reduction is proportional to the belt velocity.

  • The numerical analysis of the hard disk drive slider is presented. The pressure distribution was calculated using the finite element method. The generalized Reynolds equation was applied in order to include the gas rarefaction effect. The balance of the air bearing force and preload force was considered. The characteristics of the small vibrations near the equilibrium were studied using the perturbation method. Triangular mesh with variable element size was employed to model the two-rail slider. The flying height, pitching angle, rolling angle, stiffness and damping of the two-rail slider were calculated for radial position changing from the inner radius to the outer radius and for a wide range of the slider crown values. It was found that the flying height, pitching angle and rolling angle were increased with radial position while the stiffness and damping coefficients were decreased. The higher values of crown resulted in increased flying height, pitching angle and damping and decreased stiffness.

  • The deflection and null balance methods are used for precision force measurement in the precision industry. Since both methods are based on deformation, the performance of the load cell mechanism is important. In this study, the design variables were obtained via the free body diagram of a lever-linked Roberval mechanism (combined with a flexible hinge link and a Roberval mechanism), and the design characteristics were analyzed according to the weight method. Based on the design characteristics, the optimal design was conducted according to the weight method and FEM was used to verify its reliability.

  • With the purpose of labour reduction in tea plucking operation with portable type machine, the influence of frame angles and tea leaves weight on the grasping forces of each finger were investigated. At the measurement of the grasping force of each finger except for thumb, grip strength dynamometers were attached at the grasping position of the frame instead of handle grips. A series of measurement was carried out changing frame angles of the tea plucking machine and the weight of tea leaves. With the obtained results of the experiments , the influences of the frame angles and the weight of the tea leaves on the grasping forces of each finger were analyzed. Some reasonable suggestions for the labour reduction in the tea plucking operation with portable type machine were obtained in the aspect of normalizing the balance of the grasping force on each finger and these suggestions are expected to contribute the labour reduction of the tea plucking operation.
