  • In this paper, a personal navigation system is developed using GPS and dead reckoning sensors. This personal navigation system can be used to track a person inside a building, on an urban street, and in the mountain area. GPS can provide accurate absolute position information, but it cant be used without receiving enough satellite signals. Although the inertial sensors such as gyro an accelerometer and be used without this diggiculty, the inertial sensors severely suffer from their drift errors and the magne-tometer can be easily distorted by surrounding electromagnetic field. GPS and DR sensors can be inte-grated together to overcome these problems. A new personal navigation system that can be carried wit person is developed. A pedometer. actually vertically mounted accelerometer, detects ones footstep and gyro detects heading angle. These DR sensors are integrated with GPS and the humans walking pattern provides additional navigation information for compensating the DR sensors. The field testes are performed to evaluated the proposed navigation algorithm.

  • This paper proposes a novel discomfort assessment method for truck ingress and egress motions based on the maximum-voluntary-contraction (MVC) ratios of muscles obtained by biomechanical analysis of human musculoskeletal models. In this study, a human motion to enter and exit a truck cabin with different types and heights of footsteps is first measured using an optical motion capture system and load sensors. Next, in a biomechanical analysis system, a human musculoskeletal model with contacting conditions on footsteps and handles is modeled, and then joint torques and muscles forces are calculated by inverse dynamics of the musculoskeletal model with the motion data. Finally, the MVC ratios for the muscles are calculated and their statistical values are used as the measure of discomfort. To ensure the feasibility of our method, subjective discomfort levels have been investigated through the participants' experiments and questionnaires and compared to the results of our method. Comparing to the existing methods based on joint angles or torques, our approach provide a more essential criterion for discomfort because it is based on the muscle contraction by which an active human motion is basically generated.

  • In this paper, I scrutinize what Korea has achieved from the KTX(Korea Train Express) project for the past one year of operation since it was open to public in April 2004 while looking into some improvement measures for better services in the future. I tried to compare the clements with those of the Tokaido Shinkasen in Japan. As things may turn at its premier operation, the KTX has been suffering from a small number of passengers, low in demand. However, when I compared the previous year with the post KTX operation of one year, demand of the passenger has increased $40\%$ on Kyong-bu line. I figured the first one year of the KTX operation pretty much followed in the footstep of the Tokaido Shinkansen's. For example, the rate of the each train to be on time as the timetable was equivalent while KTX went through less technical problems than the Tokaido Shinkansen. I have come up with some ideas for improvement, which I believe will lead to the development growth of KTX. First, I suggest that we complete the construction of laying new rails on Kyong-bu line at the earliest possible time. Second, we need to extend the high speed network as well as the rail modernization. Last, I have no doubt that we should secure high technology before we forge in the overseas markets.

  • In General, the measured loads and load-time function suggested by Bachmann iota walking are used for vibration analysis of structures subjected to footstep loads. It is not easy to measure walking loads because they we influenced by various parameters. Therefore, it is needed to model the walking loads that can be applied to structure analysis. Parameter study is used for the walking loads having various walking frequency for vibration analysis of structures under walking loads. In this study, walking loads were measured directly by using a force plate within two load cells, and the parameters of the walking loads were analyzed. The measured walking loads are decomposed into harmonic loads by using the Fouler series. Functional relationship between the walking frequency and the Fourier coefficients can be derived from the coefficients of harmonic loads obtained by the decomposition process, and the walking loads were formulated. It is possible to apply the venerated walking loads easily or conveniently by the proposed equation to the analysis of a structure subjected to walking loads.

  • Recently, the floor systems those require large open space may have low inherent damping due to the decline of the use of curtain walls. Furthermore, the use of the high strength materials has resulted in more flexible and longer spanning in floor systems. The long span structures such as shopping malls, offices and large assembly rooms may lead to significant dynamic response due to human activities. Excessive vibrations make the occupants uncomfortable and deteriorate the serviceability of buildings. It is now proved that footfall loading is the major source of floor vibrations. The common method of application of walking loads for the vibration analysis of structures subjected to walking loads is to inflict measured walking loads and periodic function at a node. But this method could not account for the moving effect of walking. In this study, natural frequency and damping ratio of example structure are evaluated by heel drop tests. And the application of equivalent walking loads is used for on efficient vibration analysis of the plate structures subjected to walking loads.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the characteristics of the Junk Art represented in the second half 20the century fashion. The highly developed material civilization resulted in human alienations environmental distruption. By this fact human being of the 20the century was to overcome social com-plexity. In this respect this research was focused that how the characteristics of the junk Art was expressed in the second half 20th century fashion. The concepts of the Junk Art lied in the creation of art work in the 2-dimentional plane of 3-dimentional space through the application of all junks (wood pieces industrial debris trash ready-made goods etc) cast by the mod-ern industrial society and the mass production system. Juck Art had been further envigorated in the footstep of the development of the collage method based on the creation of object aes-thetics. And junk artists have untitled social environments with art by assembling junks as a way of exploring the material world of cur-rent society and provided infinite possibilities of expressional medium and technique. Above all junk Art has been reflected in the fashion as well as other art. Especially a lot of the fashion design by the use of junks and the expressive image of junks is produced in the 20th century. That is many of fashion designers have always been aware of what is happening in the arts and have always been able to use the dis-coveries and ideas of the artist to help them solve design problems and creat fashion which are new inventive and reflective of their time. The fashion designers of the junk fashion design could be said to have presented much more possibilities and new development for-mulas to modern fashion design and provided a new order of other formative arts. Unlike the negative and destructive punk cyberpunk fashion junk fashion was a positive and optimistic aesthetics. junk fashion that keeps pace with science and the development of technology is devoted to trying to grasp the real form of ultimate re-ality.

  • This paper presents a virtual-legged walking model for bipedal robots and analyzes its fundamental RPY(Roll, Pitch, and Yaw) motion effects by simulation. For the purpose of identifying the motion effects of the bipedal walking, we assign some arbitrary trajectories both at the center of mass and at the center of pressure of the robot based on human walking. And then we verify the major moments to the roll, pitch, and yaw directions of the robot. As a result, it is shown that those motions are natural in the process of bipedal walking and they are deeply dependent on the step distance, the vertical level of the center of mass, and the acceleration of the robot. The importance of trajectory planning for the footstep location during a bipedal walking is finally addressed in terms of balance.

  • We propose adaptive detection algorithm to reduce a false alarm by considering the characteristics of the random noise on the detection system based on a seismic sensor. The proposed algorithm consists of the first step detection using kernel function and the second step detection using detection classes. Kernel function of the first step detection is obtained from the threshold of the Neyman-Pearon decision criterion using the probability density functions varied along the noise from the measured signal. The second step detector consists of 4 step detection class by calculating the occupancy time of the footstep using the first detected samples. In order to verify performance of the proposed algorithm, the detection of the footsteps using measured signal of targets (walking and running) are performed experimentally. The detection results are compared with a fixed threshold detector. The first step detection result has the high detection performance of 95% up to 10m area. Also, the false alarm probability is decreased from 40% to 20% when it is compared with the fixed threshold detector. By applying the detection class(second step detector), it is greatly reduced to less than 4%.

  • This article attempts to examine the definition and categories of research records in order to include ethnographic data into research records by comparing the laboratory records with the ethnographic data produced in the field work. And it discusses the records management task of ethnogrpahic data using the field work data collected in the research project of 'Cultural History of Kitchen' which was carried out by one of the authors from 2002 to 2005. The authors draw out the classification of laboratory records from the previous studies on research records, apply it to the ethnographic data and illustrate the new classification and description of research records reflecting the features of ethnographic data. Doing so, the authors expand the concept of research records and provide a case study of research records management based on the collaboration between the researcher and the archivist. Ultimately this study will be a footstep toward construction of community archives and everyday life archives since the records for those archives may be as diverse as the research records based on the ethnographic data from the research project of 'Cultural History of Kitchen'.
