This study was attempted to clarify differences in sizes and shapes of foot between 20's and 60-70's women and analyzed the characteristics of elderly women's foot shapes as compared with those of young. The 2D data were 101 elderly and 101 young women in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. The results are as follows: Firstly, the foot length of the elderly was shorter than that of the young, the foot breadth and the heel width were widened, but the toes breadth became smaller and the deformity of the toe 1 and the first metatarsal part appeared. Secondly, in the Foot Index, there was a significant difference in age group, the young is more than the elderly in the narrow type, standard type, the elderly women showed more than three times the young in the wide type. Thirdly, in the factor analysis for the foot type classification, 'foot length' factors in both age groups were large. Next, young group were influenced by 'toes breadth', lateral ball breadth' factors, elderly group was influenced by the 'lateral ball breadth', 'medial ball breadth' factors. Lastly, in the cluster analysis of the elderly group, the types of sole were classified as W-Type(20.8%, wide foot and toes, large heel), H-type(20.8%, small toes breadth, heel), D-type(31.7%, long length and wide lateral ball) and A-Type(26.7%, which is found only in the elderly, small length and large toes angle). As a result, it is necessary to design the shoes that match the characteristics of the soles of the elderly women.
Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation coefficients between anthropometric parameters of the foot and kinetic variables during running. Method: This study was conducted on 21 healthy young adults (age: $24.8{\pm}2.1yes$, height: $177.2{\pm}5.8cm$, body mass: $73.3{\pm}7.3kg$, foot length: $256.5{\pm}12.3mm$) with normal foot type and heel strike running. To measure the anthropometric parameters, radiographs were taken on the frontal and sagittal planes, and determined the length and width of each segment and the navicular height. Barefoot running was performed at a preferred velocity ($3.0{\pm}0.2m/s$) and a fixed velocity (4.0 m/s) on treadmill (Bertec, USA) in order to measure the kinetic variables. The vertical impact peak force, the vertical active peak force, the braking peak force, the propulsion peak force, the vertical force at mid-stance (vertical ground reaction when the foot is fully landed in mid-stance or at the point where the weight was uniformly distributed on the foot) and the impact loading rate were calculated. Pearson's correlation coefficient was used to investigate the relationship between anthropometric variables and kinetical variables. The significance level was set to ${\alpha}=.05$. Results: At the preferred velocity running, the runner with longer forefoot had lower active force (r=-.448, p=.041) than the runner with short forefoot. At the fixed velocity, as the navicular height increases, the vertical force at full landing moment increases (r= .671, p= .001) and as the rearfoot length increases, the impact loading rate decreases (r=- .469, p= .032). Conclusion: There was a statistically significant difference in the length of fore-foot and rearfoot, and navicular height. Therefore it was conclude that anthropometric properties need to be considered in the foot study. It was expected that the relationship between anthropometric parameters and kinetical variables of foot during running can be used as scientific criteria and data in various fields including performance, injury and equipment development.
The purpose of this study is to provide foot classification on 30 generation young men and women by factor analysis and cluster analysis. The sample for this work was chosen from data which were collected and measured by Size Korea during two years($2003{\sim}2004$). In order to analyze and compare features of the foot of men and women, analysis was performed about 871 subjects(male: 422, female: 449) on 24 body parts including height, width, thickness, circumference, length and angle. According to the result of factor analysis about measured data, there were seven factors and six factors for men and women respectively. After cluster analysis, data for men and women were commonly divided by three types for utilization of research results. Type 1 and type 3 had wide distribution about men. Type 2 had wide distribution about women. The results of this study can be applied in manufacturing and design of comfortable shoes and socks.
Purpose: The aim of the current study was to examine the effects of hinged ankle-foot orthosis (HAFO) on walking function in children with spastic diplegic cerebral palsy (CP). Methods: Thirty-two children (mean age: $6.79{\pm}0.35years$, age range: 5-7 years) who were diagnosed with spastic diplegic cerebral palsy participated in the study. Each subject typically walked through 10 meters of a gait platform with markers on the subject's proper body segments and underwent 3-D motion analysis system with and without hinged ankle-foot orthosis. The HAFOs were all custom-made for individual CP children and had plantarflexion stop at $0^{\circ}C$ with no dorsiflexion stop. The interventions were conducted over three trials in each group, and measurements were performed on each subject by one examiner in three trials. 3-D motion analysis system was used to measure gait parameters such as walking velocity, cadence, step-length, step-width, stride-length, and double support period in two conditions. Results: The walking velocity, cadence, step-length, and stride-length were significantly greater for the HAFO condition as compared to the no HAFO condition (p<0.05). However, no significant difference in step-width and double support period was observed between two conditions. Conclusion: These findings suggest that using the HAFO during walking would suggest positive evidence for improving the spatiotemporal parameters of gait in children with spastic diplegic cerebral palsy.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of combined wedge on the range of motion in ankle and knee joint, ankle eversion moment and knee adduction moment, and center of pressure excursion of foot for genu varus among adult men during gait. This study was carried out with 10 adult men for genu varus in a motion analysis laboratory in J university. The subjects of the experiment were measured above 5cm width between the knees on contact of both medial malleolus of ankle while standing. The width of their knees in neutral position was measured without the inversion or eversion of the subtalar joint by the investigator. The subjects of the experiment were ten who were conducted randomly for standard insole, insole with $10^{\circ}$ lateral on rear foot wedge, insole at $10^{\circ}$lateral on rear foot and $5^{\circ}$ medial on fore foot wedge. Before and after intervention, changes on the range of motion in ankle and knee joint, ankle eversion moment and knee adduction moment, and center of pressure excursion were measured. In order to compare analyses among groups; repeated one-way ANOVA and $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ post hoc test were used. As a result, combined wedge group was significantly decreased compared to control wedge group in terms of knee varus angle in mid-stance(p<.05). Combined wedge group was significantly decreased compared to lateral wedge group in terms of ankle eversion moment in whole stance(p<.05). Combined wedge group was significantly decreased compared to lateral wedge group in terms of knee adduction moment in whole stance(p<.05). Combined wedge group was significantly decreased compared to lateral wedge in terms of center of pressure excursion in whole stance(p<.05). The results of this study suggest that combined wedge for genu varus decreased ankle eversion moment and knee adduction moment upon center of pressure excursion. We hypothesize that combined wedge may also be effective in the protection excessive ankle pronation.

Purpose : The objectives of this study were to examine changes in gait parameters related to the COP and gait velocity resulting from the use of ankle foot orthosis, and to provide information for the prescription of ankle foot orthosis and gait rehabilitation training. Methods : We sampled a control group of 14 normal children of the same age as the spastic diplegia (spastic diplegia used ankle foot orthosis) and measured their COP at barefoot gait and their gait parameters at three gait velocities. Change in the COP according to the use of ankle foot orthosis measured one-way ANOVA and Gait parameters according to gait velocity used repeated measures ANOVA. Results : As a result of analyzing change in the COP it became close to that of normal children, and changes in gait parameters such as step width, stride length and stride time also became close to those of normal children. Conclusion : In conclusion, when spastic diplegia used ankle foot orthosis, their balancing ability was improved as a result of decreased change in the COP, and their changes in gait parameters also became close to those of the control group. These results show that the use of ankle foot orthosis improves spastic diplegia gait functions.
The purpose of this study is to suggest the method of prevention of staircase accidents, and to make housing environment better through researching the dimension of a housing staircase for Korean. The scope and method of this thesis is to investigate the dimension limits of a staircase (slope, minimum width of tread, maximum height of riser), and to analyze the characteristics of foot condition (jutting rate, foot angle, ball joint, nosing clearance, clearance distance) using the experiment which takes a photograph of foot motion during walking stairs. The results of this thesis are as follows. The slope of a staircase in house is $32.3^{\circ}$$^{\circ}$-$42.1^{\circ}$$^{\circ}$. The riser should be less than 190 mm. The minimum size of tread is 210 mm and proper size is 270 mm.
The purpose of this study was to present basic data for development of shoe last suitable for women of plus size (BMI 25 kg/㎡ or higher) by type and to analyze the characteristics of each type of foot type. The results of the study are as follows. A comparison of the feet of a plus-size woman and a normal-weight woman showed that the feet of a plussize woman were thicker and wider in the toes, cheeks and feet than those of a normal-weight woman, while the ankle area was thicker. As a result of the cluster analysis by type of foot type of plus-size woman, type 1 was classified into four types, type 1 was 49 (19.5%), type 2 was 43 (17.1%), type 3 was 53 (21.1%), and type 4 was distributed among 106 (42.2%). Type 1 appeared to be a long, low heel, thick foot and wide H-type, and Type 2 appeared to be a D-type with a low heel and a thinner and narrow foot compared to other types, but with wide outer width of the foot. Type 3 showed short feet, low heels, narrow feet, but slanted sides, and Type 4 showed type A with long feet, high heels, thick and wide feet or a combination of toes.

This paper is concerned with the mutual relationship among interpressure, last. foot within a new shoe and foot within a fifty-hour-used shoe at the standing posture at three different heel-heights 1. The interrelationship between the heel-heights and interpressure is very significant at the level of $0.1\%$. The heel-heights cause high interpressure at different parts of foot; heel point and big toe point in a 3 cm-heel shoe, big toe point and heel outside joint point in a 5 cm-heel shoe, and little toe point, heel-outside joint point, and arch point in a 7 cm-heel shoe. 2. Foot girth and foot width measurements either within a new shoe or within a fifty-hour-used shoe significant at the level of $5\%,\;1\%,\;0.1\%$ and show discrepancies at three different heel heights; the part between instep and ball joint in a 3 cm-heel shoe, toe part in a 5 cm-heel shoe, heel-inside joint. heel-outside joint and toe part in a 7 cm-heel shoe are highly influenced by heel heights. The higher the shoe-hee15 are, the more heavily the fore part of foot is pressured in lateral direction because shoe is made to have high instep from a fashion viewpoint. Higher shoe heels prevent weight pressure from being concentrated on heel. If shoe heels are toe high, people in such shoes feel easily tired. It is very worthy of note in selecting shoes to consider not only the shoe fashion but also fore shoe type, heel height, and shoe material with proper elasticity.
This study was about to investigate the characteristics of elementary school students' feet growth, comparing and analyzed the measured values and the index values of 3D scan data. As the results from analyzing the measured values, the all measurement items excluding 'Toe 5 angle' showed some significant differences among the age classes, knowing that the elementary school students' feet were continually grown. Although, the items of length, thickness, width, height and circumference indicate some rapid growth of feet at 11 years old, but it appears slowing growth of 'Foot width' after the age of 11 years old. The angle item didn't show any sequential differences according to ages. As the results from analyzing the index values, the children in higher grades have longer 'Toe 5', thicker ankles, wider and thicker the superior part of feet than the children in lower grades. For the superior and the middle part of feet were lowly raised, their Arch height was low and thick. The inferior part of feet showed narrow width and higher height. Giving that the Medial ball width was wide and the Toe 1 angle is high for the children in higher grades, it is expected that the Metatarsophalangeal I might be more projected than that of children in lower grades. Likewise, knowing that the male students' feet shape was bigger than female students' feet from the result that the male students' index values were higher.
