  • Since organized living cooperative associations sold their environment-friendly agricultural products directly to independent consumers in the past, the general distribution channels such as wholesalers had difficulty in handling these products. However, the ratio of distribution via wholesale channel has been gradually increased as consumption of environment-friendly agricultural products has expanded. This study is to address vitalization of wholesale distribution for environment-friendly agricultural products by gathering previous statistical data and analysis. In addition, statistical analysis are conducted by utilizing surveys on forwarders, consumers for environment-friendly agricultural products. As a result, the products producers ship are distributed through dealers at producers sites, producers cooperatives, or food process companies, food companies, internet shopping malls, large-scale distribution companies, consumer groups such as living cooperative associations, direct outlets at consumers sites, or exports. Among the channels, the large-scale distribution companies and franchised special shops account for 47%, the general supermarkets 15.7%, and living cooperative associations 14.6% respectively. By utilizing the research results on producers and consumers, and the distribution weight by channels for environment-friendly agricultural products, the distribution channels for living cooperative associations, wholesale markets, and large scale distribution companies are compared and evaluated. As a result, the level of producers' and consumers' satisfaction for them is the lowest since the low selling price for producers and high distribution margins.

Analysis of Purchasing Attributes for Consumption Activation of Environment-friendly Agricultural Processed Foods (친환경농산물 가공식품 소비 활성화를 위한 구매속성 분석)

  • The activation of consumption of environment-friendly agricultural processed foods means not only the growth of environment-friendly agriculture, but also the development of related industries. Therefore, it is necessary to identify and apply the needs and purchasing attributes of environment-friendly agricultural processed food consumers. For this, survey was conducted to adult men and women in their 20s and 60s and a total of 200 copies were used for empirical analysis. In this study, the average difference between importance-satisfaction for purchase attributes of environment-friendly agricultural processed food was verified, and the IPA Matrix was prepared based on this. As a result, in terms of purchasing importance and satisfaction, it was found that those with no experience in purchasing environment-friendly agricultural processed foods regarded product, price, place, promotion as more important than those with experience in purchasing. In case of IPA, product and price factors were all important and satisfactory regardless of purchasing experience. On the other hand, it was found that the key factors for promotion were neither important nor satisfied with consumers regardless of their purchasing experience. Therefore, it is mainly necessary to focus on marketing and mass media promotion. At the same time, various domestic and foreign best practices should be benchmarked and a 4P marketing strategy should be established and promoted.

Development of Prediction Model of Groundwater Pollution based on Food Available Water and Validation in Small Watersheds (식품용수 수질자료를 이용한 지하수 오염 예측 모델 개발 및 소규모 유역에서의 검증)

  • Groundwater is used in many areas in food industry such as food manufacturing, food processing, cooking, and liquor industry etc. in Korea. As groundwater occupies a large portion of food industry, it is necessary to predict deterioration of water quality to ensure the safety of food water since using undrinkable groundwater has a ripple effect that can cause great harm or anxiety to food users. In this study, spatiotemporal data aggregation method was used in order to obtain spatially representative data, which enable prediction of groundwater quality change in a small watershed. In addition, a highly reliable predictive model was developed to estimate long-term changes in groundwater quality by applying a non-parametric segmented regression technique. Two pilot watersheds were selected where a large number of companies use groundwater for food water, and the appropriateness of the model was assessed by comparing the model-produced values with those obtained by actual measurements. The result of this study can contribute to establishing a customized food water management system utilizing big data that respond quickly, accurately, and preemptively to changes in groundwater quality and pollution. It is also expected to contribute to the improvement of food safety management.

The Assessment of Work Environment in Dishwashing Areas of 20 Hospital Foodservice Systems (병원급식 세정구역의 작업환경 조사)

  • The work environment and 20 influencing variables in 20 conventional hospital foodservice systems were examined. Twenty hospitals with more than 500 beds in Seoul were surveyed to obtain data for study variables. The work environment index was measured by five objective measurements including noise (dB), light(Lux), temperature ($^{\circ}C$), humidity (%) and ventilation (mι/sec). Statistical methods used in this study were descriptive analysis and Pearson product moment correlation analysis. The number of beds, space of foodservice system, the proportion of dishwashing area space in foodservice system area, noise, humidity, and ventilation were significantly correlated to the work environment of the dishwashing area.

A Survey on Endocrine Disruptors among Agricultural Products in the North of Seoul

  • This study was carried out to monitor suspected endocrine disrupting pesticides and industrial organic chemicals among circulated agricultural products in the north area of Seoul in 2001. Procymidone, vinclozolin, endosulfan, chlorothalonil, chloropyrifos and pendimetaline (pesticides) and butylated hydroxytoluene(industrial organic chemicals) were certified by GC-MS. Detected 6 pesticides were remained mostly in the green vegetables, spices and wild plants with $3\%$ detected. Butylated hydroxytoluene(industrial organic chemicals) used for green house cover stuffs was contained mostly in the green vegetables, spices and wild plants not in the fruits and cereals with $43\%$ detected. In the same agricultural products containing butylated hydroxy toluene showed same detection tendency with remaining endocrine disrupting pesticides.

A Study on the Utilization, Recognition, and Satisfaction of Environment-Friendly Agricultural Products in School Food Services according to the Type of Food Service in Jeonbuk Area (전북지역 학교급식소의 급식유형에 따른 친환경농산물 이용실태, 학교영양사의 인식 및 만족도 연구)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the utilization, recognition, and satisfaction of environment-friendly agricultural products (EAPs) in school food services according to the type of foodservice in the Jeonbuk area. Among the 270 school food service providers evaluated, 56.3% of the schools were located in an urban area and 43.7% were in a rural area. About 80% of urban schools used the EAPs for school foodservice, and 89.8% in rural schools (p<.05). The purchase frequency of grain (p<.01), fruits (p<.05), and processed foods (e.g. Tofu) (p<.001) was significantly different between the urban and rural schools. The perception of school dietitians in urban and rural schools between the EAPs and general agricultural products was significantly different (p<.05). The most different fact was 'safety' (p<.001). Most school dietitians has a gut understanding and a lot of confidence about the system of EAPs (p<0.01). The satisfaction score with EAPs was 3.35; in the urban schools it was 3.36 and in the rural schools 3.12 (p<.01). The satisfaction with EAPs in urban and rural schools was significantly different with regard to several factors; these were 'design' (p<.05), 'color' (p<.001), 'fresh' (p<.001), and 'diversity' (p<.01). There are conflicting views between the urban and rural schools for the additional costs brought by using EAPs (p<.01). In conclusion, our central and local governments should change their roles in financially positive ways and reflect the issue to make the policy effective.

A Comparison Between Consumers' Perceptions of Korean and US Quality Certification Marks for Agricultural Products (국내외 농산물 인증마크에 대한 소비자 인식의 비교)

  • The purpose of the study is to determine how consumers perceive certification marks for agricultural products. The study examined three agricultural product certifications, such as the certification of environment-friendly agricultural products, Good Agricultural Procuts (GAP) certification mark, and United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) certification mark. A survey was utilized for data collection from adults over the age of 19 in November, 2013. A total of 390 questionnaires were distributed, and 300 of those were obtained for an analysis of the study. The results were as follows. First, consumers' awareness of, image of, and credibility on the agricultural products with the certification marks were not significantly different among the three certification marks except consumers' awareness. Second, consumers' purchase intentions for and willingness to pay for the agricultural products with the certification marks were not significantly different among the three certification marks. Third, these variables were not significantly different between buying group and non-buying group except consumers' awareness. Lastly, buying group and non-buying group were significantly different only in gender and marital status. The findings offer implications to the food and food service industry regarding consumers' purchase of certified agricultural products. Further, the study enforces the roles of food industry for environment.

A Perception of Dietitians for Using Imported Foods and Pro-environment Farm Products for Elementary School Foodservice Operations in Busan (수입 식재료 및 친환경 농산물 사용에 대한 부산지역 초등학교 영양사의 인식 조사)

  • The purpose of this study was to assess the use of food materials at elementary school in Busan area and provide school meal management with basic data to improvement of guideline. A survey was done by e-mail with a set of questionnaires, which was responeded by 122 dietitians in elementary school foodservice. The results were as follows; Sixty percent of the dietitians though to the general imported food materials had to use. Regarding mean score of using the imported food materials; safety was 2.12/5.00, freshness 2.48/5.00, sanitation 2.68/5.00, nutrition 2.73/5.00, preference 2.93/5.00, external form 3.09/5.00, package 3.12/5.00, and price 3.63/5.00. Thirty seven percent of the dietitians had purchase the pro-environment farm products(PEFPs) and 32.0% of them purchased those products for the students' health. But 52.4% could not purchase to the PEFPs because of expensive price. They had negative opinions about deficient supplying of PEFPs 4.51/5.00, too expensive price 4.34/5.00, and the truth or false in source of PEFPs 3.96/5.00. Most of them perceived that using the PEFPs had to apply the step by step. Among of them, 33.9% had the knowledge of PEFPs, but 16.4 of them did not know to the PEPPs. 57.4% of them hoped to purchase the food materials through a center of supporting school meal servcie(it called non-profit-making organizations).
