In general, speech coding methods are classified into the following three categories: the waveform coding, the source coding and the hybrid coding. Fast speaking is possible to encode with a few information compared with slow speaking rate. In case of speaking rate, low frequency band is more important than high frequency band while listening. Speech vocoding technique is developing to way with low bit rate and complexity and high sound quality. the CELP type of vocoder support very good sound quality with low bit rate but these vocoders don't consider about the speaking rate. When we consider speaking rate and encode the frame depending on the speaking rate, the bit rate is able to reduce the bit rate than the conventional vocoder. We propose the technique to estimate the speaking rate and applied PSOLA technique in case of the frame of slow speaking rate. As a result of simulation bit rate can be reduced about 300 bps.
This study was designed to investigate the treatment, generalization, and maintenance effects of vocal relaxation treatment on compensatory articulation(i.e., glottalization of plosive sound) of three children with cleft palate. Multiple baseline design was applied to evaluate treatment, generalization, and maintenance effects. The targeted phonemes were ph/, th/, /t/ which Were frequently substituted by glottal stop sounds. The main component of the treatment program was vocal relaxation using humming and aspiration sound /h/. The following conclusions were deduced from the results: (1) the treatment program for compensatory articulation was effective in facilitating correct production of targeted phoneme and eliminating glottalization for all subjects, (2) the treatment effects on articulation accuracy were generalized to untreated phonemes (/c/, /c$c^{h}$/) for 2 subjects, (3) the treatment effects on decrease of glottalization were generalized to untreated phonemes for all subjects, and (4) the treatment effects were maintained for all subjects for 2 weeks after treatment was terminated.
This paper aims to reexamine Homorganic Cluster Lengthening in Late Old English whereby OE short vowels became lengthened before specific consonant clusters such as /-ld, -nd, -mb, -rd, -rð, -ng, -rz/. As for the motivation for this apparently odd-looking sound change, I propose that it was the result of phonologization of the phonetic lengthening of syllables containing resonants homorganic with a following voiced obstruent. Adopting Luick's (1898) view of "resonant+voiced homorganic obstruent" phonologically as a single coda, I show that Homorganic Cluster Lengthening is in fact a natural sound change that can be explained with the proper postulation of a few quantity-related universal constraints within the framework of the Optimality Theory. The fact that the constraints and their ranking as posited in this paper can also account for Pre-Cluster Shortening points to the validity of my approach in the analysis of other quantity changes in Middle English.
In order to examine the anticariogenic effect after fluoride varnish was applied to sound enamel and artificial caries enamel, anterior teeth of healthy cattle were used and divided into four groups such as group 1 (sound enamel), group 2 (application of fluoride varnish to sound enamel), group 3 (artificial caries enamel) and group 4 (application of fluoride varnish to artificial caries enamel). Remineralization on the surface of enamel and changes of crystalline structure after demineralization were observed by using a field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM). Quantitative analysis of Ca and P was measured by using the energy dispersive X-ray spectrophotometer (EDS). The following conclusions were obtained: 1)Surface pattern of enamel was the roughest in group 3 due to the defects caused by porosity and microcracks. Group 4, group 1 and group 2 were followed in order; 2) It was found that pattern of crystalline structures in a group of application of fluoride varnish and a group of no application showed bigger change in artificial caries enamel than that in sound enamel. In other words, groups 4 and 1 showed a similar pattern; 3) The contents of Ca and P were higher in groups of application of fluoride varnish (group 2 and group 4) than in groups of no application of fluoride varnish (group 1 and group 3). Taken results of this study together, in the case of application of fluoride varnish, crystalline structure was changed by remineralization even in the sound enamel. In particular, porous structures showed a smooth and uniform pattern due to the recalcification in the artificial caries enamel. In addition, according to results of EDS analysis, the contents of Ca and P were increased and it had great anticariogenic effects which inhibit decalcification of sound enamel and artificial caries enamel.
A study was planned to see if the mammillary bodies have any influence upon orienting response Thirty-nine male rats were divided into two groups. One group of animals received electrolytic lesion of the mammillary bodies through stereotaxically implanted electrodes (mammillary body group), and the other group received the same treatment short of electrolytic lesion(operated control group). All animals were tested for orienting response 3 weeks after surgery. Orienting response was regarded as elicited when an animal in alertness ceased ongoing activity upon 1,000 Hz tone presentation and/or turned head toward the source of stimulus. Weak (momentary and inconspicuous) and strong (marked and more persistent) responses were discriminated. Occurrence and duration of orienting response were measured, and the rate of habituation was estimated in 20 trials. Shift of attention from sound to light stimulus (10 trials) as well as orienting response of thirsty animals to sound stimulus while drinking (5 trials) and while at rest (5 trials) were also tested. 1. Simple orienting respons to sound stimulus tended to occur more often and its duration tended to be shorter in the mammillary body group than in the operated control group. 2. With repetition of trials, the occurrence of orienting response in each trial decreased progressively in both groups (habituation). However, the rate of habituation was significantly less prominent in the mammillary body group than in the operated control group. 3. Under attention·shift situation, orienting response tended to occur less often and its duration tended to be shorter in the mammillary body group than in the operated control group. 4. Orienting response to sound stimulus while drinking to quench thirst tended to occur more often and its duration tended to be shorter in the mammillary body group than in the operated control group. In quiet state, however, there existed no group difference with regard to the occurrence and duration of the orienting response. Although no obvious inference can be drawn from the above results, they may suggest the mammillary bodies being involved in the orienting response as a control mechanism inhibitory to the occurrence and facilitatory to the habituation of the response.

In this study, the possibility of decision error is investigated to identify and improve the reliability of participants in the process of conducting the sound quality analysis for laser printers. So far, there is not a way to identify and express the possibility of individual participant quantitatively. Thus, the decision error model is proposed which is based on the expectation value between the perceived sounds. Through the experimental verification on the laser printers, it was found that the possibility of decision error is affected according to the normalized difference. The possibility of decision error has inversely proportional to the normalized difference between the perceived sounds. When the normalized difference becomes small value, the uncertainly between decisions is inversely increase, and then it is difficult to obtain the proper result in the process of the jury evaluation for laser printers. For this reason, in this study, the proposed decision error model is added in the previous step of the correlation verification. Comparing to the conventional process only using the correlation based method, after the reliability of each participant is verified, the correlation with the mean response of participants is verified. It was found that the participants who were recognized as having unusual preferences are actually identified as having the reliability problem. Based on the results of this study, the proposed decision error model will be helpful to identify and improve the reliability of participants in the following study for the sound quality analysis.
A series of experiments were conducted from 1968 to 1970 to find the transmission effects of the dwarf disease of mulberry tree in connection with inlay grafting and insect vector with the following conclusions: 1. The inlay-grafting of sound scions on diseased roots showed a 30 per cent transmission rate among the successful grafts. The inlay-grafting of diseased scions on sound roots showed a 14 per cent transmission rate among the successful grafts ir the case of scions cut and stored before wintering but no transmission effect in the case of scions prepared after wintering, There were some stocks, among the unsuccesful grasfts of diseased scions upon sound roots, that sprouted out new buds, no transmission effects were found in them, 2. Leafhoppers (Hishimonus disciguttus Walker) collected from areas with no dwarf disease infection were grouped into three plots and let to feed on mulberry tree severely infected by dwarf disease for 7 days, 14 days and 21 days respectively. After these preliminary treatment, the leafhoppers were recollected to be fed on the sound seedling divided into three plots for 10 days, 15 days and 20 days respectively to find the transmission effects. The results are that the 7 day plot showed no transmission effect whereas the 14 day plot showed a 22 per cent disease rate and the 21 day plot 61 per cent rate indicating that the longer the feeding period is the higher the transmission rate.
The communication designer in the multimedia age should have a consideration that the sound also can be an important expression element to transmit ones thought as well as the visual sense like color, shape and motion. As you already know, someones thought can be better understood when transmitted to others using the visual and auditory senses together than using the visual or auditory sense alone. The meeting of sight and hearing bases on the synesthesia. For example, low sound reminds a person of dark color and high sound usually reminds light color. And a percussion instrument reminds a person a circle and melody reminds a line. The visual and auditory senses In communication of the multimedia age should act as an independent expression element gotten out of the synchronizing that just serves simple sight and related sound at the same time. Interaction between sight and hearing arose a different emotion that cannot be happened just by one element alone. So, the programs of communication design education in this multimedia age should fulfill the requirement that it can develop ones expression ability through the understanding of interaction between sight and hearing. In this study, we suggest the education programs Classified into following categories; audio visual Gestaltung, audio visual moving graphics, audio visual design.
To see if the treatments of d-amphetamine and chlorpromazine have any influence upon the orienting response and general behavioral activity, 3 groups of male Holtzman rats were prepared, namely d-amphetamine animals (1.0 mg/kg.i.p.), chlorpromazine rats (1.0 mg/kg.i.p.) and the physiological saline control animals. The general behavioral activity was examined by visual scanning using the time-sample method in the adaptation period of orienting response. The occurence of orienting response and its rate of habituation were evaluated by observing cessation of ongoing activity in response to a sound stimulus (1,000 Hz, 70 db & 0.1 sec), or turning of head toward the source of stimulus in 20 trials. Attention shift from sound to light stimulus was also tested in 10 trials. The results obtained were as follows; 1. The general behavioral activity of d-amphetamine group was significantly greater than that of control, however, the chlorpromazine animals showed the tendency to decrease in activity. 2. The d-amphetamine group showed the occurence of orienting response to sound significantly more often than that of placebo controls. However, the chlorpromazine group exhibited significantly fewer orienting response than the placebo group did. 3. The d-amphetamine group displayed no clear out habituation to the orienting response following the repetition of trials, though the placebo and the chlorpromazine groups demonstrated apparent habituation to the response. 4. The three animal groups did not differ significantly from each other with regard to shift of attention from sound to light stimulus. It is inferred that the d-amphetamine tends to increase general activity has a definite facilitative action of orienting response and a inhibitory influence upon the habituation of the latter response. On the contrary, the chlorpromazine tends to decrease general activity, has a inhibitory action of orienting response and facilitatory action of habituation of the response.
This study conducted 2 types of occlusal splint therapy to eliminate clicking sound. 15 patients who had clicking on their joints were selected, and divided, at random, into 3 groups. In the first group, 4 persons put on stabilization splint and in the second group, 6 persons put on anterior repositioning splint which had made condyle to protrude 3mm, and in the last group, 5 persons put on anterior repositioning splint which had made condyle to protrude 6mm. Patients who wore anterior repositioning splint were instructed to use the splint for all days. The evaluation of clicking was measured by occlusal soundscope. The clicking was converted to aucostic signal by the attached microphone, instead of vibrating sensor The in-put aucostic signal on the occlusal soundscope made it possible to observe the experiment's result. Anterior repositioning splint was produced in the centric occlusion state, when the model was mounted to articulator and inserted two pieces of 3mm and 6mm resin blocks each into the rear wall of articulator fossa. The observation of the patients who wore three different splints for 3 weeks has reached the following conclusions: 1. Stabilization splint produced no effect in eliminating the clicking sound. 2. Anterior repositioning splint therapy with 3mm condylar protrusion produced significant improvement in eliminating the clicking sound. 3. The 6mm protruded anterior repositioning splint caused pain on affected TMJ area as well as the clicking on unaffected joint.
