  • In this paper, we propose a reconfigurable antenna which operates as a disk-loaded dipole antenna and a folded dipole antenna alternatively using RF on/off switches. The antenna can change its effective length to achieve dual-band operation; operates as the folded dipole antenna for stepping up the radiation resistance in low frequency band of $20{\sim}300$ MHz, and as the disk-loaded dipole antenna for an omni-directional radiation pattern (horizontal plane) and a donut-shaped radiation pattern (vertical plane) in high frequency band of $300{\sim}1.3$ GHz. In the low band, the proposed antenna shows higher gain than a conventional dipole antenna with a reduced antenna size. In the high band, the antenna maintains a broad beamwidth of about $80^{\circ}$, thus the antenna can be applicable to antennas for direction finding applications.

  • This paper describes the development of a broadband quasi-Yagi antenna using a folded dipole driver. The antenna is designed on a low-permittivity substrate to reduce the surface wave effect, and hence the gain can be enhanced easily by adding directors. The folded dipole driver is connected to a 50-${\Omega}$ microstripline via a simple broadband microstrip-to-coplanar stripline transition with a quarter radial stub. The key motivation for the use of a folded dipole is to increase the input impedance at the driver, allowing a smaller mismatch loss between the antenna driver and the coplanar stripline feed. The proposed antenna has a measured bandwidth of 4.67~6.26 GHz for the -10 dB reflection coefficient, and a flat gain of 4.86~5.15 dB within the bandwidth.

  • In this study, we investigated the characteristics of the input impedance and the gain of a ‘Folded dipole antenna with stub’ by the Method of Moments. The center frequency in this study is 200MHz, the radius of wire is 0.5nm, and the distance between two linear dipoles is 2cm. The inside variation of stub length within 18cm and the outside variation of stub length 4.5cm ive the value of SWR(Standing Wave Ratio) within 3. This means that the impedance matching between the ‘Folded dipole antenna with stub’ and receiver can easily be performed without a supplementary matching circuit.

  • This paper presents a closely spaced two-element folded-dipole-driven quasi-Yagi array with low mutual coupling between adjacent elements. The antenna utilizes a T-junction power divider as the feeding network, with an input impedance of $50{\Omega}$. A microstrip-stub is added to the ground plane in the middle of the two elements to improve the mutual coupling characteristics. The folded dipole driver is connected to a $50{\Omega}$ microstrip line via a broadband microstrip-to-coplanar stripline transition with a quarter radial stub. A mutual coupling of less than -22 dB is measured between two folded-dipole-driven quasi-Yagi antennas with a center-to-center spacing of 30 mm ($0.55{\lambda}_0$ at 5.5 GHz). The proposed quasi-Yagi array yields a measured bandwidth of 4.75~6.43 GHz for the -10 dB reflection coefficient and a gain of 6.14~7.12 dBi within the bandwidth range.

  • The impedance step up ratio and variations of input admittances of the folded dipole antenna are calculated by the moment method. The results are compared with those calculated by Guertler's formula. The input admittance of the folded dipole antenna has the maximum value at the frequency somewhat lower than the resonance frequency and its susceptance which has periodic properly is null lot several different frequencies if radius ratio of two elements is not very large. Frequency characteristic of folded dipole antenna is improved when its radius ratio is increased.

  • Photoconductive three-wire folded dipole antennas for terahertz photomixers have been developed. The folded antennas are characterized by a free space time-domain measurement technique, and the measured data are in good agreement with the simulation results. The folded dipole antennas have much higher antenna resistance than other resonant dipole antennas, implying that they can be used for higher output power of THz photomixers.

  • A novel folded dipole type microstrip patch antenna designed for ultrahigh frequency (UHF) band radio frequency identification (RFID) tag is presented in this paper, which can be used on the metallic objects. The presented antenna is fabricated on a very thin Rogers 5880 substrate with a thickness of 0.508 mm. The structure consists of two folded dipole and two symmetrical shorting pins placed at both sides of feed point. An adjustable frequency response can be easy obtained via modify the location and radius of the shorting pins. The antenna has been analyzed by full wave simulations soft. The simulated bandwidth is about 67.2 MHz, which covers the Europe and North America UHF RFID frequency range. A manufactured prototype has been fabricated and measured to demonstrate the antenna performances. The simulation results agree with the measurement data well. The measured maximum reading range of the prototype can be reached 4.1 m in free space, and 3.2 m on a metal plate whose size is $150{\times}150{\times}8mm^3$.

  • In general, printed antennas have a narrow bandwidth characteristic and many people want to find out the method of bandwidth improvement through complicated procedures. So we want to reform the conventional printed antenna characteristic by using the folded dipole's superiority to unit dipole. But it is hard to feed the printed folded dipole antenna, we use the CPW, which is widely used in microwave IC or MMIC applications and have many advantages to the conventional microstrip line, to feed the printed folded slot antenna. It is confirmed that the improvement in the bandwidth characteristic of CPW fed folded slot antenna, as much as 20%, through the measurement of designed and implemented antenna.

  • This paper presents a miniaturization design technique of radio frequency identification (RFID) tag antenna operated in 910 MHz band. Miniaturization structure design for a tag antenna is performed by structure application of the folded dipole and meander line. In order to realize the maximum power transmission, imaginary part of a chip impedance and a tag antenna impedance is matched by complex conjugate number. The optimized tag antenna size is $50\;nm\;{\times}\;40\;nm\;{\times}\;1.6\;nm$ and its size is reduced about 62 % comparison with antenna size of reference [4]. The measured results of fabricated tag antenna are confirmed the reasonable agreement with prediction. The read range of the tag antenna with chip observed about 5 m.
