The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for development of environmental design technology for greenhouses constructed in reclaimed lands. The climatic conditions around seven major reclaimed land areas with a plan to install advanced horticultural complexes in Korea were analyzed. The characteristics of natural ventilation and temperature rise through the thermal environment measurement of the greenhouse in Saemangeum were analyzed. The part to be applied to the environmental design of the greenhouses in reclaimed lands were reviewed. Results of comparing the ventilation rate of the greenhouse according to the presence or absence of plants showed the greenhouse with plants had the lower ventilation rate, but the smaller rise of indoor temperature due to the evapotranspiration of plants. In the greenhouse with plants, the number of air changes was in the range of 0.3 to 0.9 volumes/min and the average was 0.7 volumes/min. The rise of indoor temperature relative to outdoor temperature was in the range of 1 to $5^{\circ}C$ and the average $2.5^{\circ}C$. The natural ventilation performance of the experimental greenhouse constructed in the reclaimed land almost satisfied the recommended ventilation rate in summer and the rise of indoor temperature relative to outdoor temperature did not deviate considerably from the cultivation environment of plants. Therefore, it was determined that the greenhouse cultivation in Saemangeum reclaimed land is possible with only natural ventilation systems without cooling facilities. As the reclaimed land is located in the seaside, the wind is stronger than the inland area, and the fog is frequent. This strong wind speed increases the ventilation rate of greenhouses, which is considered to be a factor for reducing the cooling load. In addition, since the fog duration is remarkably longer than that of inland area, the seasonal cooling load is expected to decrease, which is considered to be advantageous in terms of the operation cost of cooling facilities.
This study was conducted to analyze the effect of fog cooling during daytime and heatpump cooling at night in greenhouses in summer. During daytime, the average temp. and RH of the control greenhouse which had shading screen were 32.1℃ and 59.4%. and the average temp. and RH of the test greenhouse which had fog cooling were 30.0℃ and 74.3%. At this time, the average outside temp. and RH were 31.4℃ and 57.7%. So, the temp. of the control was 0.7℃ higher than outside temp., but the temp. of the test was 1.4℃ lower than outside and 2.1℃ lower than control. The average RH was 74.3% in the test and 59.4% in control. The average temp. and RH of the control greenhouse which had natural ventilation at night were 25.2℃ and 85.1%, and the average temp. and RH of the test greenhouse which had heat pump cooling were 23.4℃, 82.4%. The average outside temp. and RH at night were 24.4℃ and 88.2%. The temp. of the control was 0.8℃ higher than outside temp., but the temp. of the test was 1.0℃ lower than outside and 1.8℃ lower than control. The average RH was 82.4% in test and 85.1% in control greenhouse. There was no significant difference between the plants growth eight weeks after planting. But after the cooling treatment, the values of stem diameter, plant height, chlorophyll in test were higher than control. The total yield was 81.3kg in test, 73.8kg in control, so yield of test was 10.2% higher than control. As a result of economic analysis, 142,166 won in profits occurred in control greenhouse, but 28,727 won in losses occurred in test greenhouse, indicating that cooling treatment was less economical.
In this study, a decision tree type of quality control (QC) method was developed to improve the temporal-spatial representation and accuracy of the visibility data being operated by the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA). The quality of the developed QC method was evaluated through the application to the 3 years (2016.03-2019.02) of 290 stations visibility data. For qualitative and quantitative verification of the developed QC method, visibility and naked-eye data provided by the KMA and QC method of the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (NMI) were used. Firstly, if the sum of missing and abnormal data exceeds 10% of the total data, the corresponding point was removed. In the 2nd step, a temporal continuity test was performed under the assumption that the visibility changes continuously in time. In this process, the threshold was dynamically set considering the different temporal variability depending on the visibility. In the 3rd step, the spatial continuity test was performed under the assumption of spatial continuity for visibility. Finally, the 10-minute visibility data was calculated using weighted average method, considering that the accuracy of the visibility meter was inversely proportional to the visibility. As results, about 10% of the data were removed in the first step due to the large temporal-spatial variability of visibility. In addition, because the spatial variability was significant, especially around the fog area, the 3rd step was not applied. Through the quantitative verification results, it suggested that the QC method developed in this study can be used as a QC tool for visibility data.

The impact of a large water control project on surrounding environment(temperature and relative humidity, precipitation, wind speed, present weather and visibility) was monitored. The survey have targeted on Silleuksa temple which is located in the waterside. The number of foggy days emerged as an environmental factor that can cause damage to cultural heritage. Under construction of weir since 2011, monthly relative humidity of Yeoju and Icheon was dropped to 9.6%. It depends on decrease in the number of raining days and precipitation of each year. Silleuksa temple is contiguous to Namhan River and only 100 m away from the waterside. Average wind speed is 0.5 m/s. Silleuksa has a site environmental factors which is often foggy. The number of foggy days of Silleuksa temple declined to 53 days soon after weir's completion. In case of fog, relative humidity of outside was higher than that of outside and inside of Josadang Shrine. Relative humidity difference of outside and inside of Josadang Shrine was 5.4% on average. Relative humidity of the number of foggy days is 6.3% higher on average than that of fine days. The width and dimensions of Namhan River increased by 1.45 times after weir's construction. It can change the number of foggy days. A long-term monitoring is positively necessary on fog occurrence and relative humidity.
A certain system to overcome high temperature should be introduced for the stable year-round cultivation in greenhouses. There are efficient methods to overcome high temperature such as ventilation system with shading screen, fan and pad system with screen, and fog system with screen. This study was carried out to find a means to determine the capacity of such system. Heat balance equations for each system were established and verified by experimental results. The calculated ventilation rates from heat balance equations showed a good agreement with the measured ones. The evapotranspiration coefficient was the most important parameter affecting the ventilation requirement among input parameter affecting the ventilation requirement among input parameters except weather data. When the evaportanspiration coefficient increased 1%, the ventilation requirement decreased 1.3%. Therefore the data of evapotranspiration coefficient should be accumulated by various experiments, and then design standards and selection guidelines should be provided. The simulation results for same design conditions shown that air exchanges requirement and evaporating water of fan and pad system were 5.1∼7.7% and 6.8∼9.3% larger than those of fog system, respectively.
In order to develop the cooling load estimation method in the greenhouse, the cooling load calculation formula based on the heat balance method was constructed and verified by the actual cooling load measured in the fog cooling greenhouse. To examine the ventilation heat transfer in the cooling load calculation formula, we measured ventilation rates in the experimental greenhouse which a cooling system was not operated. The ventilation heat transfer by a heat balance method showed a relatively good agreement. Evaporation efficiencies of the two-fluid fogging system were a range of 0.3 to 0.94, average 0.67, and it showed that they increased as the ventilation rate increased. We measured thermal environments in a fog cooling greenhouse, and calculated cooling load by heat balance equation. Also we calculated evaporative cooling energy by measuring the sprayed amount in the fogging system. And by comparing those two results, we could verify that the calculated and the measured cooling load showed a relatively similar trend. When the cooling load was low, the measured value was slightly larger than calculated, when the cooling load was high, it has been found to be smaller than calculated. In designing the greenhouse cooling system, the capacity of cooling equipment is determined by the maximum cooling load. We have to consider the safety factor when installed capacity is estimated, so a cooling load calculation method presented in this study could be applied to the greenhouse environmental design.

Atmospheric speciated mercury concentrations including total gaseous mercury (TGM) and reactive gaseous mercury (RGM) were measured in Chuncheon from March 2006 to November 2008. Average concentrations were 2.10 ${\pm}$ 1.50 ng/$m^3$ and 3.00 ${\pm}$ 3.14 pg/$m^3$ for TGM and RGM, respectively. RGM concentrations were higher during daytime than nighttime probably because of high photochemical activities. We found that RGM concentration considerably increased as ozone increased when fog occurred, indicating that ozone was the important oxidant for $Hg^0$ in aqueous phase. TGM concentration showed positive correlations with CO and $PM_{10}$ which can transport in long-range, but there was no correlation with $NO_2$. Considering that major source of mercury is combustion process, this result showed that local sources did not significantly impact on TGM concentration in Chuncheon. Five-day backward trajectories were calculated for the samples representing high and low concentrations of TGM, and determined that industrialized area of China including Shenyang and Beijing influenced TGM concentrations in Chuncheon.

Reclaimed lands, expected as high-tech export horticultural complex, have unusual light environments due to sea fog. For adequate greenhouse design at reclaimed land, spatial light distributions in greenhouse should be required considering diffusive and direct lights. The objectives of this study were to analyze light environments and estimate spatial light distributions in greenhouse at reclaimed land by 3D greenhouse models. Total and diffusive lights were compared between reclaimed land and inland. For verification of the 3D greenhouse models, spatial light distributions and measured light intensities in greenhouse were compared with the estimated ones. Light environments at reclaimed land showed a higher diffusive irradiation than at inland, especially near sunrise and sunset. The estimated spatial light distributions in greenhouse showed good agreements with the measured ones. By using this method, we could estimate the average light intensity with time and spatial light distributions in greenhouse at specific outside light conditions. This result will be useful for analysis of light environments but also estimation of crop light inception in greenhouse at reclaimed land.
Purpose: To investigate the effects of the transmittance of diffusive blurson visual acuity and contrast sensitivity. Methods: Visual acuity and contrast sensitivity were measured by using Optec$^{(R)}$ 6500 in Healthy 30 subjects aged $22.83{\pm}0.50$ (male 13, female 17) who were recruited from university students. Cataract simulator was used as a tool for diffusive blur. Visual acuity and contrast sensitivity were measured with varying the transmittance of diffusive blur in order to simulate progression of cataract and concentration in fog. Results: Visual acuity was reduced proportionally with decreasing the transmittance of the diffusive blur as follows: $VA(T)=1.84{\times}10^{-2}T-0.645$. Contrast sensitivity was decreased in all spatial frequencies. Contrast sensitivity in a high spatial frequency band was a greater effect and was off the normal range of contrast sensitivity. The peak of contrast sensitivity was moved in the direction to low frequency. From an intersection point of contrast sensitivity function, we could calculated the transmittance of the diffusive blur being off the normal range and the shift to peak spatial frequency. The peak of contrast sensitivity function was observed to move from 6 to 3 cpd at transmittance of about 78.70%, the contrast sensitivities for all frequencies at transmittance of about 69.71% were deviated from the normal range. Conclusions: The transmittance of diffusive blur causes a reduction in visual acuity and contrast sensitivity, a deviation of normal range of contrast sensitivity, and a shift of peak contrast sensitivity. Therefore the more attention is required when suffering from cataracts or driving in fog.
Experiments were conducted to measure rooting and growth of rose cuttings as affected by medium composition and volume. Rosa hybrida 'Red Sandra' and 'Little Marble' were used as test plants. For medium composition test, rockwool, phenolic foam, perlite, vermiculite, peatmoss, coir and a commercial medium (Tosilee medium) were applied in single or mixed forms on the propagation bed with fog (200 sec./5 min.) installed to control the humidification time. 'Red Sandra' and 'Little Marble' cuttings were planted in 16-cell plastic pots and 72-cell plug trays, respectively. For the medium volume test, 72-cell plug trays and 16-cell or 9-cell plastic pots were used. Cuttings with an uniform node with a five-leaflet leaf was soaked in a $500mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ IBA solution for 30 sec. A fogging system installed on the propagation bed was used for (100 sec./5 min.). Rockwool 1 : peatmoss 1 (v/v) was the most effective on growth and rooting for both cultivars and high volume of Tosilee medium and rockwool were most effective media far both cultivars.
