Analysis of the foaming behavior in pultrusion process of phenolic foam composites (발포 복합재료 Pultrusion 공정에서의 발포 거동 해석)

  • An experimental and theoretical study was carried out to estimate the foaming characteristics in the pultrusion process of phenolic foam composite. For the experimental study, a lab-scale pultrusion apparatus was constructed. Methylene chloride(CH2Cl2) was used as a physical blowing agent, glass fiber roving was used as reinforcement and the polymer used was a resol type phenolic resin. Pultruded products were observed to count bubble size by a SEM(Scanning Electron Microscopy). For the theoretical study, a model for bubble growth in a gradually hardening resin was considered and solved for a few foaming conditions.

Engineering Properties of Lightweight Foaming Grouting Materials for Underground Cavities (지반 공동의 충진을 위한 발포성 경량그라우트재의 공학적 특성)

  • Underground cavities could induce road subsidence, which have been frequently observed in urban areas. Therefore, adequate backfilling materials and the restoring methods of the cavities are required to prevent the road subsidence. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the suitability of backfilling methods using foaming lightweight grouting materials considering the flow values, unit weights, and air contents at slurry and expanded states, and unconfined compressive strengths. The grouting materials consist of water, cement, and foaming agent whose proportions of water, cement, and foaming agent are 25: 25: 1.0 and 25: 25: 1.2. The flow values of the two materials are greater than 200 mm, and their unconfined compressive strengths at 28 days age are smaller than 1.3 MPa. From the results, the two proportions of materials are expected to be effectively used as a backfilling material. However, the material components should be carefully mixed because poor mix of these materials could induce non-homogeneous distribution of air bubbles. The unexpectedly non-homogeneous distribution of air bubbles may induce significant cracks or additional cavities.

  • Foaming of slag is a thermodynamically unstable phenomenon and has significant effects in iron and steelmaking processes. For better recycling method of pulp sludge, the application as an defoaming agent during steelmaking process was adopted and tested. The forming machine has been modified in order to produce the briquettes, which are made of pulp sludge and slag with different weight ratio. Influencing factors on the foaming phenomena have been studied and tested for better understanding of foaming phenomena. Experiments were carried out with $CaO-FeO-SiO_2$ based slags with Ar gas injection and addition of coke particles. The slag basicity and (%FeO) contents adapted as major factors to treasure foaming tendency of the slag system. It was found that foam index (${\Sigma}$) gradually decreased as both the basicity and the (FeO) content increase. Four kinds of antifoaming agent such as aluminium dross, cokes, rice bran and pulp sludge with steelmaking slag have been tested in actual process. Aluminium dross was the most effective, and pulp sludge with steelmaking slag also showed the desired results.

An Experimental Study on the Improvement of Fire Extinguishing Performance of Water Mist with Foam (포 소화약제를 혼합한 미분무수 소화시스템의 소화성능 향상 방안에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • We carried out the water mist fire extinguishing experiments with the 3 kinds of foaming agents varied on the nozzle height. Test result showed that 2% AFFF (Aqueous Film Forming Foam) and 1% synthetic foaming agent for water mist system are the faster extinguishing time than the pure water mist and 3% AFFF solution. Additionally, the best fire extinguishing performance of pure water mist was shown at 3.5m nozzle height and that of the foaming agents shown at 4m nozzle height.

  • Polyurethane has been one of the most important materials for automobile elastic parts such as bumper, head rest, instrument panel and so on since it covers very wide range of mechanical characteristics with low production costs. The process variables such as formulation of ingredients and mold temperature, mixing speed, etc. can affect the quality of produced polyurethane foams so that process conditions should be determined appropriately. In this study, foaming behaviors of semi-rigid polyurethane were investigated by conducting cup foam tests with 2 major process variables such as environmental temperature and blowing agent content.

Properties of Heat-transfer on Lightweight Concrete Using Bottom ash (Bottom ash를 이용한 기포콘크리트의 열전도 특성)

  • In this study the characteristics of adiabatic and lightweight of cement mortar was improved by using porous Bottom ash which was industrial waste. when a foaming agent was added, the characteristics of mortar using sand and Bottom ash were compared. From the empirical results the heat-transfer ratio for the mortar using Bottom ash only was shown the lower values than that for a general mortar, and the lightweight concrete with unit weight of 1.5t/$\textrm{m}^3$ could be made. When the foaming agent of 0.25% and 0.5% in usage of cement was added to that, the compressive strength scould be measured as 5 and 8times of the general mortar respectively. Also, the characteristics of adiabatic for that mortar was great improved so that the heat-transfer ratio was fallen to 0.172kcal/$mh^{\circ}C$.

  • The purpose of this study is to find ways of recycling a great amount of gypsum as by-product from the manufacture of phosphate fertilizer. For the purpose, this researcher investigated physical properties of light weight Porous material using waste gypsum and a foaming agent, Sodium n-dodecyl Sulfate to utilize it as a interior material of construction. To determine such properties, the study examined pore size distribution and pore rate in accordance with contents of Sodium n-dodecyl Sulfate added. Then expanded vermiculite as light-weight aggregate was also added, when pore size distribution, pore rate and sound absorption rate were surveyed and measured.

  • As energy related problems continue to arise, Korea's thermal insulation market for the zero energy homes is also demanding major changes, but there are no realistic countermeasures. Also, interest in inorganic insulation is growing as damage from multifamily housing fire using flammable insulation materials is increasing. On the other hand, many studies have been conducted on lightweight foam concrete, which implies a sufficient possibility as an insulation material by generating a large amount of air bubbles. However, studies of existion bubble concrete are not quantified by the experimental difficulty of using bubbles when compared. Therefore, in this study, the change in strength due to air pressure using a bubble foam, one of the types of air bubbles for the development of light foam concrete.

Investigation of Pharmacological Stability of Hyeonggaeyeongyotang Gagambang by Formulation Changes for Foaming Tablet (형개연교탕(荊芥連翹湯) 가감방(가감방)의 발포정 제형 변화에 따른 약리학적 안정성 연구)

  • Objectives : Natural extracts have been extensively studied to replace single agent drugs that cause a variety of side effects. However, studies of changes to the formulation of natural extracts has not been nearly proceed. We aimed to investigate whether pharmacological stability of hyeonggaeyeongyotang gagambang (HYT) is altered by formulation changes for foaming tablet. Methods : In this study, we performed freeze - drying of HYT, which is known to have antioxidant and anti - inflammatory properties, and then changed the formulation by foaming. Results : As a result, the foaming reaction appeared normally when HYT foamed tablets were put into water, and almost all of the substances were dissolved in the aqueous solution. In addition, we confirmed using high-performance liquid chromatograph that the geniposide used as an indicator material of HYT was stable in most of the formulations. It was confirmed that the change of HYT formulation did not affect the antioxidant efficacy by the 2,2'-azino-bis-3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid assay. Moreover, quantitative real-time PCR confirmed that the inhibitory effect of HYT on IL-$1{\beta}$ mRNA expression induced by lipopolysaccharides treatment in murine macrophage RAW 264.7 cells was similar in the solution of foaming tablet. Conclusions : These results suggest that the materials with various pharmacological effects can be stably maintained even when the formulation is changed by the foaming action of HYT. Our results are expected to provide important basic knowledge on formulation changes using various natural extracts.
