A novel integrated method for increasing dissolved oxygen concentration in culture media has been developed. It involves adding hydrogen peroxide to the medium, which is then decomposed to oxygen and water by catalase and adding vegetable oil to the medium as antifoam agent and oxygen vector. A new apparatus for automated addition of hydrogen peroxide to the bioreactor to keep the dissolved oxygen concentration constant over the range $10-100%\;{\pm}\;5%$ was tested. A significant increase (over threefold) of cultivation time was obtained while the dissolved oxygen concentration remained stable ($30%\;{\pm}\;5%$). Therefore, use of corn oil mixed with Ca-stearate as oxygen vector and antifoam and hydrogen peroxide as oxygen source to control excessive foam that was generated by microorganism biosurfactant, GB16-BS produced at Bacillus sp. GB16 cultivation was appropriate for stable cultivation.
This paper investigates insulating effects and strength properties of concrete under cold climate carrying out the experiment with insulating forms on the slab member. According to test results, under $-10^{\circ}C$
of outer temperature, the surface of concrete exposed to outer temperature goes below zero after 10hours since exposed. And, the surface of concrete covered with vinyl and blanket goes below zero after 42hours. However, the surface of concrete covered with insulating materials such as polystyrene foam does not drop below zero until 55hours. And, according to coring sample strength test, compressive strength cured with insulation shows much higher strength than no insulation curing condition and vinyl and blanket curing condition.
This study was performed by measuring the minimum ignition temperature of polyurethane form recovered from the recycling process of the end-of-life home appliances. The critical ignition temperature of polyurethane form was lower as the size of the sample vessel was increased, and that of polyurethane form using cyclopentane as the forming agent was relatively lower than the polyurethane form using CFC and the combustion of cyclopentane-polyurethane form occurred fiercely. It is considered that the recycling process of end-of-life home appliances using cyclopentane-polyurethane form as the insulator would require a special fire and dust explosion prevention measures since there exists a high potential hazard of fire and dust explosion during crushing and storage processes.
The purpose of this study is to improve overall performance of prefoamed lightweight cellular concrete for On-Dol system floor. This study includes 4 sections as follows. \circled1 Analysis of the structural characteristics of On-Dol System focusing on the lightweight cellular concrete insulation layer. \circled2 Establishment of the mixing design equations. \circled3 Development of some admixtures used with foaming agent. \circled4 Improvement of the equipment for onsite production. This study has proven that, compared with the current existing one, the newly developed lightweight cellular concrete has been reduced the usage of cement by 20% and the cracks caused by cement drying shrinkage up to 80% but has shown the increased compression strength by 20% at 7 days curing period. The volume contraction of freshly prepared cellular concrete by the loss of foam was hardly found in newly developed lightweight cellular concrete.
This is an experimental study on manufacturing of non-cement matrix. Materials like cement and blowing agent in foamed concrete is replaced by by-products from blast furnace slag and paper ash. Sample 43-PS-1 with density showed lowest. The compressive strength test result, showed a similar trend with density. And it showed that compressive strength of the 40-PS-1 was highest.
This study was aimed at improving the white index (WI) to prepare thermally expandable microspheres for wallpaper. In particular, thermally expandable microspheres were prepared for different colloidal silica particle sizes to study thermal properties, foaming ratio, and WI. The spheres obtained from tiny colloidal silica were the best in terms of WI and yellowing. Additionally, thermogravimetric analysis results show that small colloidal silica particles are more likely to be adsorbed physically or chemically to the microsphere surface, thereby improving WI at higher temperatures.
Super-selective renal artery embolization is an increasingly popular technique for the management of traumatic, low-grade renal trauma. When performed in distal arterial branches, this intervention enables tissue preservation and arrest of hemorrhage, but it may not be practical in cases of multifocal, high-grade renal injuries. In such cases, surgical nephrectomy remains the more common treatment modality to ensure hemodynamic control. We present the unique case of a patient who presented in hemorrhagic shock following a major trauma that resulted in a grade 5 renal injury treated with complete renal artery embolization using Gelfoam, resulting in hemodynamic stabilization. Interestingly, imaging 1 month after embolization revealed residual enhancement of the inferior pole of the kidney, suggesting reconstitution of flow and partial renal salvage. Ultimately, transcatheter "nephrectomy" with careful selection of a temporary embolic agent may serve as a safe and efficient alternative to surgical nephrectomy with the added possibility of preserving partial renal perfusion and function in the emergent setting.
All the activities and physical properties including surface tension' foaming power, foam stability, emulsifying power, dispersion effect of 3-(N, N-dimethyl N-alkylammonio)-2-hydroxyY-1-propane sulfonate (HSB)류와 3-CN-alkylamidopropyl-N,N-dimethylamm-onjo)-2-hydroxy-1-propane sulfonate (APSB) aquous solution were measured and critical micelle concentration was evaluated. Their cmc of hydroxy sulfobetaine derivatives evaluated by the surface tension method was $1.0{\times}10^{-3}{\sim}1.0{\times}10^{-4}$ mol/l, and surface tension of the aquous solution was decreased to $27{\sim}38dyne/cm$. The experimental results for foaming power, foam stability, emulsifying power in liquid paraffin showed a good surface active properties, especially, dispersion effect in ferric oxide exhibited some efficient surface active properties, and then it would be expected to application as detergent and dispersion agent.
