Purpose: Ultrasonography and $^{99m}-Tc-MIBI$ scintimammography were validated as useful diagnostic tools for primary breast cancer. However, ultrasound has the problem of low specificity. We compared the diagnostic usefulness of ultrasound with $^{99m}-Tc-MIBI$ scintimammography in the diagnosis of breast cancer. Materials and Methods: This study included 174 patients who had ultrasound and $^{99m}-Tc-MIBI$ scintimammography peformed on breast masses from 1999 to 2000. The pathologic results were obtained by surgery or FNAB. Results: Among the 174 patients, malignant breast disease numbered 117 and benign breast disease numbered 57. Ultrasound revealed 88 TP, 9 FN, 8 FP, 34 TN, and 35 indeterminate cases. $^{99m}-Tc-MIBI$ scintimammography revealed 91 TP, 25 FN, 9 FP, and 48 TN. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value of Ultrasound were 66.7%, 44.2%, 67.2%, and 43.6% respectively. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value of $^{99m}-Tc-MIBI$ scintimammography were 77.8%, 84.2%, 91%, and 64.9% respectively. Among the 35 indeterminate ultrasound cases, $^{99m}-Tc-MIBI$ scintimammography revealed 13 TP, 15 TN, and 7 FP Conclusion: $^{99m}-Tc-MIBI$ Scintimammography was more sensitive and specific than ultrasound for the detection of primary breast cancer and provided more useful information in cases of indeterminate ultrasound findings.
This experimentation aims to study on the characterics of tree growth by forestry land soil system and the effect of applied fertilizer by kind of tree for obtaining basic data on application of fertilizer to forestry land and to further investigate the restriction factor of tree growth by soil system for promoting more effective application of fertilizer to forestry area. 1. The characteristics of tree growth by soil system showed that tree growth was worst on erosive soil, bad on red or red and yellow soil and generally good on brown soil. 2. With regard to Black Locust, the restriction factor of its growth appeared the content of $P_2O_5$ in the soil and the less the content of $P_2O_5$ is in the soil, the worse its growth was and its growth was bad on clay soil. 3. The growth of pinus seems closely related with the content of $K_2O$ in the soil and the growth of PH was bad on neutral or alkali soil and good on weak-acid soil. Its growth greatly depended upon the content of OM or FN. 4. As Suwon Poplar is a kind of tree requiring for a special soil, its growth required for fertile soil and the content of O. MN $P_2O_5$$K_2O$ was proportional to its growth. 5. The growth of Black Locust, pinus and Suwon Poplar was good on the soil containing much sand but bad on the soil containing much clay.
The investigation concerned an effect of the ground charcoal powder and organic acids on the digestibilities of protein and energy or the contents of uric acid, ammonia, creatine and urea in excreta of 113 week-old White Leghorn strain layers. Birds were fed basal (control) diet composed of mainly corn-soybean meal during a week of previous feeding and subsequent experimental diets during 12 weeks of experimental feeding . The experimental diets were the control diet(CON). diet(CPD) substituted 0.5% of the ground charcoal powder with the defatted rice bran of the CON, diet(PWV) added 0.1mM(based on the acetic acid) wood vinegar in the CPD and diet(PFA) added 0.1mM (based on the acetic acid) fermented acetic acid in the CPD. Birds fed CPD excreted significantly(P<0.05) more fecal nitrogen(FN) and lower urinary nitrogen (UN) than those of birds fed CON. Digestibility of protein was lower significantly (P< 0.05) in CPB-fed bird than in bird fed CON. while birds fed CON. PWV and PFA showed similar values. Also urinary nitrogen per nitrogen intake (UN/NI) or absorbed nitrogen (UN/AN) was significantly (P<0.05) lower in birds fed CPD compared with those in birds fed CON. And birds fed PWV tended to increase UN/NI and UN/AN, while PFA-fed birds excreted significantly (P<0.05) higher UN/Nl and UN/Ah than those of birds fed CPD diet. The uric acid nitrogen (UAN) per nitrogen intake (UAN/NI) or absorbed nitrogen (UAN/AN) were lower significantly(P<0.05) in CPD-fed birds and were tended to decrease in birds fed PWV compared with those in birds fed CON and PFA The ammoniacal nitrogen(AMN) per nitrogen intake (AMN/NI) or absorbed nitrogen (AMN/NI) was tended to increase in birds fed experimental diets and was increased significantly(P<0.05) in birds fed PFA compared with those of birds fed CON. The excretion of creatine and urea nitrogen per nitrogen intake or absorbed nitrogen was shown similar values among birds fed experimental diets Digestibility of energy (DE/GE) was not shown any significant effect of experimental diet and were in the range of 80~84%. But metabolizability (ME/GE or MEn/GE) was increased in birds fed CPD and PWV and was decreased in birds fed PFA compared with those in birds fed CON. Although birds fed PWV showed significantly(P<0.05) higher ME/GE than bird fed PFA, the MEn/GE were higher significantly (P<0.05) in birds fed CON and CPD compared with that in birds fed PFA. Fecal energy affects 10~23% in the change of metabolizability though significant effect of fecal energy on the metabolizability were not found. But the effect of urinary energy on the metabolizability of diet was lowered as 2.3~3, 0% and the effect of experimental diets on the metabolizability of diets was due to change of urinary energy which also was originated from the change of uric acid energy.
Both SCC 12 and SCC 13 cell lines were derived from squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the skin (Wu and Rheinwald, 1981). In the present study, we compared the inherent invasive activity in their raft cultures where most in vivo characteristics of epidermis can be reproduced by cell culture method. The raft culture of SCC 12 cell line produced many invading colonies within the collagen lattice and basal-like cells in the middle of differentiating cell layers, but no invasive activity was observed in the SCC 13 raft culture. We investigated which factors are implicated in inherent invasive activity of SCC 12 cell line by examining basal levels of type I collagenase, EGF receptor, fibronectin, and its receptor in two cell lines. Among them, only type I collagenase was significantly higher in invasive SCC 12 cells than in non-invasive SCC 13 cells. Furthermore, we tried to investigate mechanisms underlying between SCC 12 cell's inherent invasive activity and its high basal level of type I collagenase. As one of them, discrepancy in TGF alpha mediated responses between two cell lines was observed. In SCC 13 cells, TGF alpha initially stimulated type I collagenase at 12 h after TGF alpha treatment and then its down regulation was followed from 24 h even though TGF alpha was continuously present in the medium. However in SCC 12 cells, TGF alpha continuously stimulated type I collegenase up to 48 h. We propose that defect in EGF receptor's down-regulation may be involved in lack of type I collagenase's down-regulation and its possible connection to invasive activity of SCC 12 cell line.
In August 2020, necrotic ringspots on leaves were observed on 20 from 143 Plantago asiatica plants in open fields in Eumseong, Chungcheongbuk-do. Eight symptomatic Plantago asiatica plants were subjected to investigation on viral infection by reverse transcription and polymerase chain reaction. Impatiens necrotic spot virus, tomato spotted wilt virus and cucumber mosaic virus were detected from the symptomatic plants. Two impatiens necrotic spot virus (INSV) isolates ('INSV-plantain kr1' and '-plantain kr5') were sequenced and analyzed by comparing L genomic segment, nucleoprotein (N) gene and non-structural protein S (NSs) gene sequences. The nucleotide sequence of 'INSV-plantain kr1' isolate (MW114834) was most closely related to that of a 'Phalaenopsis' isolate (GQ336991) from China in the L genomic segment. 'INSV-plantain kr1' and '-plantain kr5' isolates shared the highest identities with those from 'Pepe' isolate (LC384872) and 'J' isolate (AB109100) in the NSs gene, respectively, and with that from 'YSMi-SH' isolate (FN400773) in the N gene. Phylogenetic analysis based on L genomic segment grouped the INSV-plantain kr1 isolate together with isolates from Korea (LC384870), China (GU112505, GQ336991), and Italy (DQ425094). This is the first report on INSV in P. asiatica from Korea.
Purpose: We have previously reported that tetra-cell adhesion molecule (T-CAM) markedly enhanced the differentiation of osteoblast-like cells grown on anorganic bone mineral (ABM). T-CAM comprises recombinant peptides containing the Arg- Gly-Asp (RGD) sequence in the tenth type III domain, Pro-His-Ser-Arg-Asn (PHSRN) sequence in the ninth type III domain of fibronectin (FN), and the Glu-Pro-Asp-Ilu-Met (EPDIM) and Tyr-His (YH) sequence in the fourth fas-1 domain of ${\beta}$ig-h3. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the cellular activity of osteoblast-like cells and the new bone formation on ABM coated with T-CAM, while comparing the results with those of synthetic cell binding peptide (PepGen P-15). Methods: To analyze the cell viability, 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay was performed, andto analyze gene expression, northernblot was performed. Mineral nodule formations were evaluated using alizarin red stain. The new bone formations of each group were evaluated using histologic observation and histomorphometrc analysis. Results: Expression of alkaline phosphatase mRNA was similar in all groups on days 10 and 20. The highest expression of osteopontin mRNA was observed in the group cultured with ABM/P-15, followed by those with ABM/T-CAM and ABM on days 20 and 30. Little difference was seen in the level of expression of collagen type I mRNA on the ABM, ABM/T-CAM, and ABM/P-15 cultured on day 20. There were similar growth and proliferation patterns for the ABM/T-CAM and ABM/P-15. The halo of red stain consistent with $Ca^{2+}$ deposition was wider and denser around ABM/T-CAM and ABM/P-15 particles than around the ABM particles. The ABM/T-CAM group seemed to have bone forming bioactivity similar to that of ABM/P-15. A complete bony bridge was seen in two thirds of the defects in the ABM/T-CAM and ABM/P-15 groups. Conclusions: ABM/T-CAM, which seemed to have bone forming bioactivity similar to ABM/P-15, was considered to serve as effective tissue-engineered bone graft material.
Birnessite is a layered manganese oxide mineral with ~7 Å of d-spacing. Because of its high cation exchange capacity, birnessite greatly impacts the chemical compositions of ground water and fluids in sediment pores. Understanding the cation exchange mechanisms requires atomistic investigations of the crystal structures and coordination environments of hydrated cations in the interlayer. In this study, we conducted classical molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, an atomistic simulation method of computational mineralogy, for triclinic Na-birnessite and K-birnessite whose chemical formula are from previous experiments. We report our MD simulation results of the crystal structures, coordination environments of Na+ and K+, and the polytypes of birnessite and compare them with available experimental results. The simulation results well reproduced experimental lattice parameters and provided atomic level information for the interlayer cation and water molecule sites that are difficult to distinguish in X-ray experiments. We also report that the polytype of the Mn octahedral sheets is identical between Na- and K-birnessite, but the cation positions differ from each other, demonstrating a correlation between the coordination environment of the interlayer cations and the crystal lattice parameters. This study shows that MD simulations are very promising in elucidating ion exchange reactions of birnessite.

The extracellular matrix(ECM) is a complex network of different combination of collagens, glycosaminoglycans, laminin, fibronectin, and many other glycoproteins including proteolytic enzymes. The composition and organization of the ECM contributes to the uniques physical or biomechanical properties of a tissue. Fibronectins(FN) are dimeric glycoproteins located on cell surfaces, in the matrix of connective tissue, and in blood. Fibronectins mediate cell attachment to collagen substratum and have been implicated in a variety of important biological processes, including embryogenesis and cell differentiation. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of surgical induction of anterior disk displacement(ADD) on distribution of fibronectin in the rabbit temporomandibular joint(TMJ) tissues included the articular cartilage, disc, retrodiscal tissue, articular eminence using an immunohistochemical technique. The left TMJ was exposed surgically, and all discal attachments were severed except for the posterior attachment. The disk was then repositioned anteriorly and sutured to the zygomatic arch. The right TMJ served as a shamoperated control. Normal joints were used as a nonoperated control. Fourty-five rabbits were used for experiments in total. For fibronectin immunohistochemical study, eighteen rabbits (one normal group and 5 experimental groups, each group consists of 3 rabbits) were used. The experimental rabbits were sacrified after operation period of 2, 3, 4, 6 and 8 weeks on fibronectin. The obtained results were as follows ; 1. Fibronectin immunoreaction on all TMJ tissues(mandibular condyle, articular disc, retrodiscal tissue, articular eminence) in the normal rabbit was observed. Especially the reverse cell layer and proliferation zone of articular cartilage of condyle show strong positive reaction. 2. Depletion of fibronectin in the all TMJ tissues except hypertrophic zone of articular cartilage occurred at 2 weeks following induction of ADD. 3. The restoration of immunoreaction at 4 weeks was observed and a progressive increasing reaction at 6 weeks, 8 weeks also was found. Our study generally showed degenerative changes in TMJ tissues after ADD although TMJ tissues adapted or degenerated to abnormal loads and stress distribution according to the remodeling capacity of TMJ tissues.

This study is investigated to evaluate the enhancement of antioxidant compound and activity of rough rice with different germination periods and high pressure treatment. The subject was germinated at $37^{\circ}C$ for 6 days (HP0), and then the germinated rough rice were subjected to 30 MPa for 24 hr (HP24) and 48 hr (HP48), respectively. HP0, HP24 and HP48 samples were prepared and extracted with 80% ethanol. The highest total polyphenol contents (5.15 mg/g) occurred in treating at HP48 after germination for 5 days. The total phenolic acid contents including gallic acid, chlorogenic acid, catechin, ${\rho}$-coumaric acid, ferulic acid, salicylic acid, naringin, myricetin, trans-cinnamic acid, naringenin and kaempferol increased from $37.26{\sim}204.32{\mu}g/g$ at HP0 to $77.29{\sim}283.05{\mu}g/g$ at HP48. In antioxidant activity analyses, HP48 extracts showed higher values in ABTS and DPPH radical scavenging activity, reducing power, and $Fe^{2+}$ iron chelating effect than those of the HP24 and HP0 extracts. These results suggest that the combined treatment of high pressure treatment and germination process efficiently enhanced antioxidant compound and activity of rough rice.
The ultrathin oxide films less than 100$\AA$ were grown by thermal oxidation in $N_2O$ ambient to improve the controllability of thickness, thickness uniformity, process reproducibility and their electrical properties. Oxidation rate was reduced significantly at very thin region due to the formation of oxynitride layer in $N_2O$ ambient and moreover nitridation of the oxide layer was simultaneously accompanied during growth. The nitrogen incorporation in the grown oxide layer was characterized with the wet chemical etch-rate and ESCA analysis of the grown oxide layer. All the oxides thin films grown in $N_2O$, pure and dilute $O_2$ ambients show Fowler-Nordheim electrical conduction. The electrical characteristics of thin oxide films grown in $N_2O$ such as leakage current, electrical breakdown, interface trap density generation due to the injected electron and reliability were better than those in pure or dilute ambient. These improved properties can be explained by the fact that the weak Si-0 bond is reduced by stress relaxation during oxidation and replacement by strong Si-N bond, and thus the trap sites are reduced.
