  • The E-Core Transverse Flux Machine is a different design of transverse flux machines combined with reluctance principle. Determination of the rotor position is important for the movement of the ETFM by switching the phase currents in synchronism with the inductance regions of the stator windings. It is the first time that rotor position estimation based on Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is purposed to eliminate the position sensor for the ETFM. Simulation and experimental tests are demonstrated for the feasibility of the proposed estimation algorithm for the exercise bike application of the ETFM.

  • The constraint condition is the stator voltage and the stator current to operate the motor in the flux weakening region. The maximum current is limited by the inverter current rating and the machine thermal rating. Given DC link voltage to control the motor in the flux weakening the maximum voltage is determined by considering PWM strategy, dead time, voltage drop of the inverter switching device, and the margin of the voltage for current forcing. In this paper, the new method to determine the available maximum voltage is derived by the analythic method and by considering the factors of the voltage drop. So Determining the maximum voltage is very useful to enlarge the speed operation region in the flux weakening operation, the utility of the maximum voltage is increased.

  • Recently many studies have been performed for variable speed control of induction motor. Direct Torque Control(DTC) is emerging technique for variable speed control of PWM inverter driven induction motor. DTC allows the direct control of stator flux and instantaneous torque through simple algorithm. In this paper ASIC design technique using VHDL is applied to DTC based speed control of induction motor. ASIC for DTC based speed control is designed through the description of coordinate transformation, speed controller stator flux and torque estimator, stator flux and torque controller, stator flux position detector. FSM(Finite State Machine) and inverter voltage switching vector. Finally the above system has been implemented on the FPGA (XC4052XL-PG411). Simulation and experiment has been performed to verify the performance of the designed ASTC.

  • This paper presents an DTC-PWM (Direct Torque Control-Pulse Width Modulation) of PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor). The proposed DTC-PWM method combines a conventional DTC and PWM approach for switching signal generation. The actual torque is estimated by the torque estimator in conventional method, but the switching signal is generated by PWM method according to the switching rules and torque error. A effective voltage vector and zero vector are used to generate the switching signals and asymmetric switching method is applied. A simple calculation of PWM without any complex determination of space vector can assure the constant switching frequency with an constant torque and flux. The proposed torque control scheme for PMSM is verified by experimental results.

  • This paper presents an implementation of digital control system of speed sensorless for Reluctance Synchronous Motor (RSM) drives with DTC. The control system consists of stator flux observer, rotor position/speed/torque estimator, two hysteresis band controllers, an optimal switching look-up table, IGBT voltage source inverter, and TMS320C31 DSP controller by using fully integrated control software. The stator flux observer is based on the combined voltage and current model with stator flux feedback adaptive control that inputs are current and voltage sensing of motor terminal with estimated rotor angle for wide speed range. The rotor position is estimated by observed stator flux-linkage space vector. The estimated rotor speed is determined by differentiation of the rotor position used only in the current model part of the flux observer for a low speed operating area. It does not require the knowledge of any motor parameters, nor particular care for motor starting, In order to prove the suggested control algorithm, we have a simulation and testing at actual experimental system. The developed sensorless control system is shown a good speed control response characteristic results and high performance features in 50/1000 rpm with 1.0Kw RSM having 2.57 ratio of d/q reluctance.

  • This research proposes a new type of flyback converter topology based on magnetic circuit sharing. The proposed flyback topology uses a transformer involving shared magnetic flux, and its characteristic is magnetic flux cancelation by cross magnetic flux in the magnetic flux-sharing part of the core. The new topology aims to reduce the volume of transformer by reducing the cross section of the core. Compared to conventional converters using only 1 transformer, its circuit configuration involving the serial input and parallel output of 2 flyback coils allowed increased converter insulation strength. In addition, the adoption of interleaved switching method achieved the improvement of output voltage ripple, while magnetic circuit sharing reduced by 50% the cross section of core where magnetic circuit was shared.

  • This paper presents an improved predictive control of an induction machine fed by a matrix converter using N-switching vectors as the control action during a complete sampling period of the controller. The conventional model predictive control scheme based matrix converter uses a single switching vector over the same period which introduces high torque ripple. The proposed switching scheme for a matrix converter based model predictive control of an induction machine drive selects the appropriate switching vectors for control of electromagnetic torque with small variations of the stator flux. The proposed method can reduce the ripple of the electrical variables by selecting the switching state as well as the method used in the space vector modulation techniques. Simulation results are presented to verify the effectiveness of the improved predictive control strategy for induction machine fed by a matrix converter.
