Modified Direct Torque Control using Algorithm Control of Stator Flux Estimation and Space Vector Modulation Based on Fuzzy Logic Control for Achieving High Performance from Induction Motors

  • Direct torque control based on space vector modulation (SVM-DTC) protects the DTC transient merits. Furthermore, it creates better quality steady-state performance in a wide speed range. The modified method of DTC using SVM improves the electrical magnitudes of asynchronous machines, such as minimizing the stator current distortions, the stator flux with electromagnetic torque without ripple, the fast response of the rotor speed, and the constant switching frequency. In this paper, the proposed method is based on two new control strategies for direct torque control with space vector modulation. First, fuzzy logic control is used instead of the PI torque and a PI flux controller to minimizing the torque error and to achieve a constant switching frequency. The voltages in the direct and quadratic reference frame ($V_d$, $V_q$) are achieved by fuzzy logic control. In this scheme, the switching capability of the inverter is fully utilized, which improves the system performance. Second, the close loop of stator flux estimation based on the voltage model and a low pass filter is used to counteract the drawbacks in the open loop of the stator flux such as the problems saturation and dc drift. The response of this new control strategy is compared with DTC-SVM. The experimental and simulation results demonstrate that the proposed control topology outperforms the conventional DTC-SVM in terms of system robustness and eliminating the bad outcome of dc-offset.

  • In this paper, we describe the optimal driving method and magnetic flux distribution of permanent magnet which enhance torque characteristics in small-sized 3-phase brushless DC motors. The disadvantages of conventional $120^{\circ}$ constant current drive method are torque ripple, switching noise and spike voltage due to the inductance of stator coil. This shortcommings can be avoided by the switching slew-rate of driving current which is called linear voltage driving method. The aim of this study is to analyze linear voltage driving method quantatively and to determine optimal drive current waveform through computer simulation. The selection of commutation angle and slew rate of a new driving current at switching instants makes torque ripple index minimize and average torque maximize. And the validity of this new driving method was assured by Fourier analysis. Considering two dimensional nonlinear magnetic flux distribution on the permanent magnet, we suggest optimal flux distribution according to the presented driving method which improves torque characteristics.

  • To empower safe, economical and eco-friendly sustainable solution for enhancing oil and gas productivity from deep water reservoirs, new downhole technologies are recommended. Since electric machine plays leading role in the downhole application, it is a squeezing requirement for researchers to design and develop advanced electric machine. The Recent improvement in technology and uses of high-temperature magnets, permanent magnet flux switching machine (PMFSM) has become one of the appropriate contenders for offshore drilling but fewer designed for downhole due to ambient temperature. Therefore this comprehensive study deals with the design optimization and performance analysis of outer rotor PMFSM for the downhole application. Preliminary, the basic design parameters needed for machine design are calculated mathematically. Then the design refinement technique is implemented through deterministic method. Finally, initial and optimized performance of the machine is compared and as a result the output torque is increase from 16.39 Nm to 33.57 Nm while diminishing the cogging torque and PM weight up to 1.77 Nm and 0.79 kg, respectively. Therefore, it is concluded that purposed optimized design is suitable for the downhole application.

  • 최근에는 파워툴(power tools)과 가전 제풀에 있어서 전자적인 전류(commutation)를 사용하는 새로운 형태의 브러시리스 전동기인 플럭스 스위칭 전동기(Flux switching motor)에 대한 관심이 점차적으로 증가되고 있으며, 특히 팬과 펌프 시장에 있어서는 그린 정책으로 인하여 플럭스 스위칭 전동기에 대한 관심이 급격히 증가되고 있다. 플럭스 스위칭 전동기는 유도전동기에 비해서는 높은 전력 밀도(power density)와 상대적으로 높은 효율, 그리고 브러시리스 DC 전동기에 비해서는 간단한 전동기 구조와 가격 경쟁력이라는 장점을 가지고 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 팬 용도로 제작된 12/6 폴을 가지는 플럭스 스위칭 전동기의 드라이브 설계와 동작원리에 대해서 나타내고, 팬 용도로 제작된 프로토타입 플럭스 스위칭 전동기의 타당성을 검증하기 위해서 IMS320F2812 DSP와 일반적인 인버터를 이용한 실험 결과를 제시한다.

A Novel Concept of Phase Swapping for Multiple Enhanced Speed Operations of a PM machine using Winding Switching

  • This paper presents a novel concept of phase swapping to associate multiple flux weakening ranges to a non-salient PM machine without altering any hardware of the machine. The proposed concept enables a dual three-phase machine to be operated with different displacement angles between the two three-phase windings. Hence, different flux weakening ranges using winding switching can be accomplished by applying this concept. It was also demonstrated that the proposed concept can be utilized for the discrete step as well as continuous operation of the machines. Any application requiring a wide speed range operation of up to thirteen times the base speed can benefit from this proposed concept. Analytical, simulation, and experimental results are provided to validate the effectiveness of the proposed concept.

Feed-Forward Approach in Stator-Flux-Oriented Direct Torque Control of Induction Motor with Space Vector Pulse-Width Modulation

  • Two major obstacles in the utilization of electrical vehicles are their price and range. The collaboration of direct torque control (DTC) with induction motor (IM) is preferred for its low cost, easy implementation, and parameter independency. However, in terms of edges, the method has drawbacks, such as variable switching frequency and undesired current harmonic distortion. These drawbacks result in acoustic noise, reduced efficiency, and electromagnetic interference. A feed-forward approach for stator-flux-oriented DTC with space vector pulse-width modulation is presented in in this paper. The outcome of the proposed method is low current harmonic distortion with fixed switching frequency while preserving the torque performance and simple application feature of basic DTC. The method is applicable to existing and forthcoming IM drive systems via software adaptation. The validity of the proposed method is confirmed by simulation and experimental results.

  • The conventional DTC strategy provides a fast torque response even though it has very simple scheme consisted with only two hysteresis band comparators and a switching table for torque and flux control. Drawbacks of the conventional BTC are relatively high torque ripple at low speed and variation of the switching frequency according to motor speed. In this paper, the new direct torque control(BTC) schemes are proposed. Those schemes are based on the torque slope and and flux to reduce the torque ripple.

A New Direct Torque Control Scheme of an Induction Motor Using Duty Ratio Modulation

  • The direct torque control (DTC) scheme features a simple structure thanks to stator flux-oriented control. It has the advantage of robustness against motor parameters variation since only the stator resistance is involved in the control scheme. On the other hand, the disadvantage of DTC is large torque ripple. To reduce the torque ripple, many studies on DTC-space vector modulation (DTC-SVM) schemes, which modulate the duty ratio with a fixed switching cycle, have been proposed. However, there is the difficulty in obtaining the duty ratio for DTC-SVM. Hence, this paper proposes a new duty ratio selection and stator flux calculation methods for reducing torque ripple. Simulations and experiments were carried out to determine the validity of the proposed method. The proposed scheme has simplified the duty ratio command and achieved the same control performance as the conventional duty ratio modulation method without using the information of motor parameters.

  • Direct torque control (DTC) scheme provides a very quick torque response without the complex field-orientation block and inner current regulation loop. DTC is known as an appropriate scheme for high power induction motet drives because it can be used at lower switching frequency. There are two major drawbacks with the application of DTC schemes : one is large current harmonics due to flux drooping in a low speed range, the other is that the inverter switching frequency is varying according to motor parameters and operating speed. Switching devices in the power electronics drives should be supported for relatively high switching frequency. In this paper, a P-type fuzzy controller to realize the variable switching sector scheme and a PID-type fuzzy switching frequency regulator are adopted. A meaningful contribution of this paper is to propose a simple realization scheme of the fuzzy switching frequency regulator. Simulation results show the effectiveness of those propositions.

  • 직접토크제어 기법은 벡터제어계 설계 및 운전시 요구되는 복잡한 좌표변환과 전류제어루프가 불필요하며, 빠른 토크응답을 얻을 수 있기 때문에 벡터제어 기법에 버금가는 유도전동기의 고성능 제어기법으로 인정되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 직접토크제어 기법 적용시 중요한 어려움의 하나로 지적되고 있는 저속영역에서의 자속저하 및 이로 인한 전류고조파의 증가 문제를 해결하기 위한 대책으로서 퍼지 가변 스위칭섹터 기법과 이 기법의 실시간 적용을 위한 실현방법을 제안하였다. 제안된 스위칭섹터 기법을 포함한 유도전동기 제어시스템의 실험적 성능을 고찰하기 위하여 DSP를 이용한 제어보드를 제작하였다. 시뮬레이션과 실험 결과는 제안된 퍼지 가변스위칭 섹터 기법을 도입함으로서 유도전동기 드라이브의 성능이 현저히 개선됨을 보여준다.
