A study was performed to investigate the characteristics of two-phase jet injected into subsonic cross-flow using the external mixed gas blast two-phase nozzle. The shadowgraph method was adopted for the cross-flow jet visualization and PDPA system was used to measure droplet size, velocity, and volume flux. The atomization of two-phase jet is initially determined according to gas to liquid mass flow-rate ratio and the Reynolds number of cross-flows. The highest penetration trajectories of two-phase jet injected into cross-flow are governed by the momentum ratio at subsonic cross-flow. As GLR of two-phase jet injected into cross-flow increases, the droplet size decreases and the distribution area of volume flux increases. The distribution of volume flux that influenced by the counter vortex pair at the downstream of cross-flow is symmetric in shape of horseshoe.

An experimental study was carried out in a channel cavity with square heat surface by visual¬ization equipment with Mach - Zehnder interferometer and laser apparatus. The image processing system consists of one commercial image board slit into a personal computer and 2-dimensional sheet light by Argon-Ion Laser with cylindrical lens and flow picture recording system. Instant simultaneous velocity vectors at whole field were measured by 2-D PIV system which adopted two¬frame grey-level cross correlation algorithm. Heat source was uniform heat flux(o.4W/cm$^2$, , O.8W/cm$^2$, 1.2W/cm$^2$). Obtained result showed various flow patterns such as kinetic energy distribution. Severe unsteady flow fluctuation within the cavity are remarkable and sheared mixing layer phenomena are also found at the region where inlet flow is collided with the counter-clockwise rotating main primary vortex. Photographs of Mach ~ Zehnder are also compared in terms of constant heat flux.
In the case of a Linear Induction Motor (LIM), numerical analysis method like Finite Element Method (FEM) has been mainly used to analyze the travelling magnetic field problem which includes the velocity-induced electromotive force. If the problem including the velocity-induced electromotive force is analyzed by FEM using the Galerkin method, the solution can be oscillated according to the Peclet Number, which is determined by conductivity, permeability, moving velocity and size of mesh. Consequently, the accuracy of the solution can be low and the vortexes of flux can be occurred at the secondary back-iron. These vortexes of the flux occurred at the secondary back-iron does not exist physically, but it can be occurred in the analysis. In this case, the vortexes of the flux can be generally removed by using Up-Wind method which is impossible to apply a conventional S/W tool (Maxwell 2D). Therefore, in this paper, authors examined the vortexes of the flux occurred at the secondary back-iron of the LIM according to variations of the Peclet Number, and analyzed whether these vortexes of the flux affect on the dynamic force characteristics of the LIM or not.

Flame oscillation phenomena in a co-flow diffusion flame was experimentally studied with periodic fuel supply using a solenoid valve. The degree of excitation was controlled by changing the volume flux of fuel passing through the valve. Flame oscillation frequencies were measured utilizing a photodiode, a spectrum analyzer, video and high speed movies. Laser planar visualization was employed to study the correlation between the flame oscillation and the toroidal vortices. Observed are three regimes of flame oscillation, where the oscillation frequencies are for the multiples of excitation, the excitation itself and the flame natural oscillation. Both periods of natural oscillation and of excitation induced oscillation exist over one cycle of the excitation in the frequency multiplied regime. It is considered as an effect of balancing the influence of buoyancy driven vortex with that of excitation induced vortex near the excitation rate of 0.2. Flame shapes are become monotonous as increasing the excitation frequency to the range of over two fold of the natural oscillation. The flame oscillation can be modulated to the frequency of either multiples of excitation or excitation itself under certain conditions. This implies that the flame oscillation could be modulated to avoid the resonance frequency of the combustor, and shows the possibility of active control of the flame oscillation.
An experimental study was carried out in a cavity with upper channel and square heat surface by visualization equipment with Mach-Zehnder interferometer and laser apparatus. The visualization system consists of 2-dimensional sheet light by Argon-Ion Laser with cylindrical lens and flow picture recording system. Instant simultaneous velocity vectors at whole field were measured by 2-D PIV system(CACTUS'2000). Obtained result showed various flow patterns. Severe unsteady flow fluctuation within the cavity are remarkable and sheared mixing layer phenomena are also found at the region where inlet flow is collided with the counter-clockwise rotating main primary vortex. Photographs of Mach-Zehnder are also compared in terms of constant heat flux.
A curved channel duct is designed, built and used specifically to produce Dean vortices as a result of flow around a $180^{\circ}C$ curve. We present evidence using optical reflection of the existmace of the vortices in the curved section and following flat section. Also, three different feed soludons(DI water, a monodispersed styrene-divinyl-benzene latex particle suspension and a yeast suspension) were used to determine the effectiveness of Dean instabilities to destabilize polarization layers. For each suspension, the flux data were compared as a function of time for flow conditions with and without Dean vortices, for a $0.2{\mu}m$ microfiltration membrane. Any permeation flux improvement was not sustained for $2.0De_c$ due to the vortex-decay in the flat section after the curved channel, but a 15~30% permeation improvement was obtained for $3.8De_c$.
An experiment has been conducted on the flow and heat transfer characteristics of film coolant injected from a row of five holes with compound angle orientations of 35$^{\circ}$ inclination angle and 45$^{\circ}$ orientation angle. The Reynolds number based on the mainstream velocity and injection hole diameter 3.58${\times}$10$^4$. Three-dimensional velocity, film cooling effectiveness and heat transfer coefficient data are presented at three different mass flux ratios of 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0. Flow entrainment has been found between the vortices generated by adjacent injectants. The injectant with compound angle orientation entrains not only the mainstream boundary layer flow but also the adjacent injectant. Because of the flow entrainment, the injectant. With compound angle orientation is characterized by a single vortex while two bound vortices are usually observed in the case of simple angle injection. The strength of the secondary flow depends strongly on the mass flux ratio, which shows significant influence on the film cooling effectiveness and heat transfer coefficient.

This paper describes results of an experimental study to examine the effect of a submerged horizontal breakwater to sea water exchange. Flow measurements were taken by using a PIV(Particie Image Velocimetry) system, and mean currents and wave ellipses extracted through the harmonic analysis are presented. As results, the rates of circulating flow were closely connected with the volume flux of incident waves and the counter-rotating vortex pair was observed at the onshore side of a plate. The dye study showed that incoming sea water and polluted water body mixed up significantly due to turbulent motions induced by a jet-like flow.

We have investigated the mixed-state magnetoresistance of high quality c-axis-oriented MgB2 thin film for magnetic field from 0.5 T to 5.0 T, applied normal to ab-plane. The temperature dependence of magnetoresistance was well described by vortex glass and fluctuation theories for different temperature regimes. We observed glassy exponent of v(z-1)~3 and upper critical field of $H_{c2}$(0)~35 T, which is consistent with previous data obtained from direct $H_{c2}$(0) measurements. Interestingly, the thermally activated flux flow region was observed to be very narrow, suggesting that the pinning strength of this compound is very strong. This finding is closely related to the recent reports that the bulk pinning is dominant in $MgB_2$and the critical current density of $MgB_2$ thin film is very high, comparable to that of cuprate superconductor. The present results further suggest that $MgB_2$is beneficial to technical applications.ons.
This study is intended to understand flame behavior of the pool fire. Liquid fuels were acetone, methanol, hexane and heptane which are used in many industries. Diameter of vessel was varied from 50 mm to 400 mm and the vessel was made by stainless steel and copper. Combustion time, temperature of vessel wall and heat flux of flame were measured, and flame behavior was visualized with video camera. Based on the experiment, it was found that the burning velocity and flame height was increased according to increase of vessel diameter, and vortex shedding frequency was inverse proportion to vessel diameter. And the characteristics of pool fire were affected by physical and chemical properties of liquid fuel and the vessel materials.
