  • The power series approximation method is proposed for real time implementations of a discrete flux observer. The proposed method improves the performance of the discrete flux observer in the case of a low sampling rate and high speed range, where the simple discrete flux observer converted by the Euler method cannot estimate the actual flux precisely. The performance of discrete flux observers with different orders of approximation is compared to find out the proper order of approximation. The validity of the proposed method is verified through simulation and experiment.

  • To achieve a high performance in direct vector control of induction motor, it is essential to correct estimation of rotor flux. The accuracy of flux observers for induction machines inherently depends on parameter sensitivity. This paper presents an analysis method for conventional flux observers using Parameter Sensitivity. The Parameter sensitivity is defined as the ratio of the percentage change in the system transfer function to the percentage change of the parameter variation. We define the ratio between real flux and estimated flux as the transfer function, and analyzed a parameter sensitivity of this transfer function by simulation.

  • The rotor flux position is needed to perform vector control of induction motor. But rotor speed information is needed to get accurate the rotor flux position. It is difficult to implement the open loop method without speed information or the motor equation only because of noise or the motor parameter error. This paper presents the speed estimator can use the arbitrary rotor flux observer by separating the flux observer and speed estimator and apply the three flux observers proposed by Ohtani, Lorenz and full order flux observer. The validity of speed estimator presented is verified and the performance using the three rotor flux observers is analyzed by the simulation and experiment.

  • To obtain a high performance in a direct vector controlled induction machine, it is essential to obtain the current rotor flux. The accuracy of flux observers for induction machines inherently depends on parameter sensitivity. This paper proposes an analysis method for conventional flux observers using "parameter sensitivity". The "parameter sensitivity" is defined as the ratio of the percentage change in the system transfer function to the percentage change of the parameter variation. We define the ratio between real flux and estimated no as the transfer function, and analyze a parameter sensitivity of this transfer function. Practical verification is presented to conform the capabilities of the proposed analysis method.sed analysis method.

  • The rotor speed and flux information is most important in the vector control. The accuracy of flux observers for induction machine inherently depends on parameter sensitivity. The control strategy is using online flux observer for flux estimation. In the proposed system, the speed control characteristics using a online flux observer control isn't affected by a load torque parameter disturbance. Simulation results are presented to prove the effectiveness of the adaptive sliding mode controller for the drive variable load of induction motor.

  • This paper proposes a new strategy to estimate the rotor flux of an induction machine for the direct field oriented control. Electrical model of the induction machine presents the basic idea based on observer structure, which is composed of voltage model and current model. But the former has the defects in low speed range, the latter has the defects of sensitivity to machine parameters. In spite of these shortcomings, the closed loop flux observer based on two models has been prevalent estimation method for the direct field oriented control. In this paper, generalized analysis method named "observer characteristic function method"is proposed to analyze the kinds of the linear flux observers in unified form. With the observer characteristic function, the estimated rotor flux error involved in the classical methods can be easily clarified. Moreover, the novel rotor flux observer based on this analysis is also presented and the effectiveness of the observer has been verified by the simulation and experimental results.

  • This paper focuses on speed and current sensor fault detection and isolation (FDI) for induction motor (IM) drives. A new, accurate and high-efficiency FDI approach is proposed so that a system can continue operating with good performance even in the presence of speed sensor faults, current sensor faults or both. The proposed three paralleled adaptive observers are capable of current sensor fault detection and localization. By using observers, the rotor flux and rotor speed can be estimated which allows the system to run under the speed sensorless vector control mode when a speed sensor fault occurs. In order to detect speed sensor faults, a threshold-based scheme is proposed. To verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed FDI strategy, experiments are carried out under different conditions based on a dSPACE DS1104 induction motor drive platform.

  • This paper presents a method for on-line estimation of rotor time constant of induction motor. The proposed method applies a model reference adaptive system(MRAS) using rotor flux vector. The MRAS consists of two independent observers to estimate the rotor flux vector; one based on voltage equations of rotor flux vector, the other based on current equations of them. The MRAS utilizes concept of auxiliary variables to normalize observer output and decrease high-frequency components of its input. Experimental results verify the validity and usefulness of proposed method
