Electro-Rheological (ER) fluid is a class of functional fluid whose apparent viscosity can be varied by the applied electric field strength. The ER fluid is classified into two types; one is a dispersive fluid and the other is a homogeneous. Dispersive ER fluid is a colloidal suspension of fine semiconducting particles in a dielectric liquid and liquid crystal (LC) is classed as homogeneous type ER fluid. LC has been originally developed for some electronic display devices. Various mechanical components applying ER fluid have been developed, and the their performance typically depends on the characteristics of ER fluid which have generally been evaluated by a rotational viscometer. However, the ER fluid introduced into various mechanical components undergoes not only simple shear flow but press flow or oscillating flow. For the evaluation of ER fluid, the authors developed an reciprocating type viscometer. The amplitude is controlled on 5 mm at the frequency from 50 to 1000 Hz. In the present paper, the performance of several types of ER fluid is evaluated by the reciprocating type viscometer and compared with those evaluated by a rotational viscometer.

The purpose of study is to offer base data for high fluid concrete mix property, as grasp effect of aggregate to reach much more effect for producing high fluid concrete. For this study, there are three types of combined aggregates, river sand + river aggregate(type A), river sand + crusted aggregate(type B), washed sea sand + crushed aggregate(type C) and take a factor, water-contents, water-binder ratio and S/a. And so, we had following conclusion, resulting application-ability of high fluid mortar by K-slump tester to use a handy consistency measuring instrument. And so, we had following conclusion, resulting application-ability of high fluid concrete by K-slump tester to use a handy consistency measuring instrument. 1) In cafe of regular water binder ratio, high fluid concrete suffered much effect of combined aggregates and water binder ratio. Range of water binder ratio by combined aggregates is w/b 0.4 downward(type A and B), w/b 0.35 downward(type C). 2) Water contents to need for producing high fluid concrete is minimum 170kg/$\textrm{m}^3$ without regard to combined aggregates. 3) The effect of S/a on high fluid concrete by combined aggregates is approximately S/a 50% (type A and B), s/a 50-55% (type C). 4) Consistency measuring of high fluid concrete by K-slump tester is possible and first indication value, high fluid concrete can be produced, is 6~10.5cm.
The realistic Visual Effects using fluid simulation in 3D computer graphics are operated as important factors to improve the quality of images. The process of creating realistic motions of water, fire, explosion by controlling each property of fluid is called fluid simulation. In general, the creation of a fluid simulation concentrates on the main simulation work phase, however an effective method for initial set up is important for the main simulation work. The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors involved in the initial emission motion and shape of fluid and propose methods that can efficiently apply this into the initial set up. For the process of the research, first, problems are raised based on related researches, and second, two experiments, 'Dynamic Fluid Emitter Creation' and 'User Design Type Emission Velocity Solution', are conducted for more effective fluid simulation. Through this research, the effective fluid simulation of initial set up phase will be suggested through the user design-type emission control solutions.
A new thermal type fluid level transmitter was designed and tested at the HITROL R&D institute. The relation of heat transfer and electric resistance was adopted as an operation principle. The length of a fabricated level transmitter was two meters and a water under normal temperature was used as a working fluid for the experiment Finally, the new product could have a high precision, acceptable accuracy and reasonable response time. Foreign-made level transmitter of this type is under in use for measuring water level of containment building in nuclear power plants so far. It is expected that new product will substitute it.

Droplet size measurement technique was established for the sprayed viscous fluid by virtue of the installation of the sprayed-droplet size measurement system employing light scattering method. Atomization test results showed that the mean droplet size of the sprayed viscous fluid is decreased with the increase of the mass ratio of air to fuel and in case of the same air/fuel ratio, also with the increase of viscous fluid flow rate, and is increased with the distance from atomizer tip. Basic design data for the manufacture of external-mixing type, Y-Jet type, and internal-mixing type atomizers was acquired from the atomization tests.

In this Study, the types of PSD performance test systems were reviewed. And as a results of that reviewing process, a suitable PSD performance test system type for PSD design was proposed. PSD performance test systems can be classified with pulsating methods - the pulsating whole feeding system and the pulsating working fluid. The pulsating working fluid method can be re-classified with the devices of pulsating working fluid - a piston-type pulsator and a restrict-type pulsator. The pulsating-working-fluid performance test system with restrict-type pulsator was proposed to be a suitable type for identification of main-design-parameters.

As Light-Emitting Diodes(LEDs) continue to advance in performance, their application in automotive lamps is increasing. Automotive LEDs utilize light guides not only for aesthetics but also to control light quantity and direction. Light guides employ patterns of a few hundred micrometers(㎛) to regulate the light, and the surface roughness(Ra) of these patterns can reach tens of nanometers(nm). Given that these light guides are produced through injection molding, mold processing technology with high surface quality micro-patterns is required. This study serves as a preliminary investigation into the development of high surface quality micro-pattern processing technology. It examines the surface roughness of the workpiece based on the cutting direction of the pattern and the cutting fluid type when cutting micro-patterns on STAVAX steel using cubic Boron Nitride(cBN) tools. The experiments involved machining a step-shaped micro-pattern with a height of 60 ㎛ and a pitch of 400 ㎛ in a 22×22 mm area under identical cutting conditions, with only the cutting direction and cutting fluid type being varied. The machining results of four cases were compared, encompassing two cases of cutting direction(parallel to the pattern, orthogonal to the pattern) and two cases of cutting fluid type (flood, mist). Consequently, the Ra value was found to be the highest(Ra 128.33 nm) when machining with the flood type in parallel to the pattern, while it was the lowest(Ra 95.22 nm) when machining with the mist type orthogonal to the pattern. These findings confirm that there is a difference of up to 25.8 % in the Ra value depending on the cutting direction and cutting fluid type.
Statistical Energy Analysis(SEA) is an efficient tool to predict the broadband noise and vibration for the huge and complex structures such as aircraft and ships. To estimate the noise and vibration by using SEA accurately, the characteristics of SEA parameters associated with fluid loading have to be investigated. In this report, the fluid loaded coupling loss factors were calculated for an 'L' and 'T' type line connections and compared to the ones without fluid loading. Then, the vibration levels for steel box model with 'L' and 'T' type line connection were computed using the fluid loaded and no fluid loaded coupling loss factors, respectively. As a result, the calculated vibration levels of the model using the fluid loaded coupling loss factors were lower than those without fluid loading. As a conclusion, it is necessary to use the fluid loaded coupling loss factors for increasing the prediction accuracy on the noise and vibration of immersed structures.
Equivalent Reynolds equation of truncated cone type SFD bearing using nonnewtonian EV fluid is derived. The 3 nondimensional oil film pressures and its forces are obtained with axial and circumferential pressure gradient of bearing respectively, and dynamic characteristics for the stability of rotor-bearing system are obtaind through the governing equation for an elastic rotational shaft. It is shown that EV fluid is less sensitive to the changes of oil-film than newtonian fluids for dynamic characteristics. Therefore, results show that it is better to use an EV fluid with truncated cone type SFD bearing for the vibration control of rotational machines.
