  • Piston seal is a device designed to prevent leakage in split connecctions or between relatively moving part. Contact force, critical pressure at which extrusion occurs, leakage rate, fluid film thickness and friction force have been analyzed for some design parameter such as clearance between cylinder wall piston, depth of rectangular groove and pressure of sealed hydraulic fluid. In this paper, we analyze displacement and stress of Wearing by finite element analysis to understand Contact Behaviour Characters.

  • Recently, fluid dynamic bearings (EDBs) have important applications in miniature rotating machines such as those found in the computer information storage industry, due to their outstanding low acoustic noise and NRRO (Non-Repeatable Run Out) characteristics. This research investigates the dynamic behavior of fluid dynamic bearings composed of hydrodynamic herringbone groove journal and spiral groove thrust bearing. The five degrees of freedom of FDB are considered to describe the real motion of a general rotor bearing system. The Reynolds equation and five nonlinear equations of motion for the dynamic behavior are solved simultaneously, The incompressible Reynolds equation is solved by using the finite element method (FEM) in order to calculate the pressure distribution in a fluid film and the five equations of motion by using the Runge-Kutta method. The reaction forces and moments are obtained by integrating the pressure along the fluid film. Numerical results are validated by comparing with the previously published experimental and numerical results. As a result the dynamic behavior of FDB spindle such as orbit, floating height, and angular orbit is investigated by considering the conical motion under the static and dynamic load conditions.

  • The Lubrication Mode of line contacts between the vane and the camring in an oil hydraulic vane pump has been investigated. First, the variations of the radial force of a vane were calculated from previous measurements of dynamic internal pressure in four chambers surrounding a vane. Next, the lubrication modes were distinguished with Hooke's chart, which is an improvement over Johnson's chart. Finally, the influence of the boundary conditions in the lubrication region on the fluid film lubrication was examined by calculating the film pressure distributions. The results showed that the lubrication mode of the vane tip exists in the rigid-variable-viscosity region, and that discharge pressure higher than 7 MPa greatly affects the oil film pressure in the small and the large arc section because of the Piezo-viscous effect.

  • The negative pressure as much as 10's mmHg is demanded at nozzle inside, in case of atomizing the large density molten materials. by conventional air jet nozzle. In this study, suction type fluid nozzle is designed by applying the ejector principle in order to clarify the air flow of nozzle inside, mechanism of liquid suction and liquid film formation. The results of this experimental study areas follows. Suction force of liquid is magnified by using liquid nozzle, and it is able to supply the liquid stable. Negative pressure at nozzle inside is varied by throttle angle of liquid nozzle, position and outer diameter of air jet nozzle, and have a influence on liquid suction quantity and liquid film formation.

  • In this paper, the experimental study was carried to investigate the effect of angle of the anti-vortex holes on the film cooling effectiveness on a flat plate. The pressure sensitive paint technique was applied to measure the film cooling effectiveness. Two anti-vortex hole angles of $0^{\circ}$ and $15^{\circ}$ with respect to the primary hole were considered, and the simple cylindrical hole case was also tested. The blowing ratio based on the cylindrical hole was 0.5 and the same flow rate was kept for all anti-vortex hole cases. Results showed that the film cooling effectiveness for the anti-vortex hole cases were much higher than that of the cylindrical case. Among the anti-vortex hole cases, $15^{\circ}$ angle anti-vortex hole case showed higher film cooling effectiveness than that by the $0^{\circ}$ angle anti-vortex hole case.

  • In this study, the Coanda effect inducing bump was applied to improve the film cooling effectiveness on the flat plate with $30^{\circ}$ and $45^{\circ}$ angled rectangular slots. The slot length to width ratio was 6. A cylindrical cap shaped structure, called Coanda bump, was installed at the exit of the slot to generate Coanda effect. The width and height of the bump was 10.5 mm and 1 mm, respectively. The film cooling effectiveness was measured at the fixed blowing ratio, M=2.0, using pressure sensitive paint (PSP) technique. The mainstream velocity was 10 m/s and the turbulence intensity was about 0.5%. Results showed that the film cooling effectiveness for case of $30^{\circ}$ angled slot was higher than that of $45^{\circ}$ angled slot. It was found that there was no positive effect of Coanda effect on the overall averaged film cooling effectiveness for the $30^{\circ}$ angled slot. On the other hand, for the $45^{\circ}$ angled slot, the film cooling effectiveness was improved with the installation of the Coanda bump.

  • To study the lubrication performance of tilting-pad thrust bearing (TPTBs) during start-up in nuclear pump, a hydrodynamic lubrication model of TPTBs was established based on the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method and the fluid-structure interaction (FSI) technique. Further, a mesh motion algorithm for the transient calculation of thrust bearings was developed based on the user defined function (UDF). The result demonstrated that minimum film thickness increases first and then decreases with the rotational speed under start-up condition. The influence of pad tilt on minimum film thickness is greater than that of collar movement at low speed, and the establishment of dynamic pressure mainly depends on pad tilt and minimum film thickness increases. As the increase of rotational speed, the influence of pad tilt was abated, where the influence of the moving of the collar dominated gradually, and minimum film thickness decreases. For TPTBs, the circumferential angle of the pad is always greater than the radial angle. When the rotational speed is constant, the change rate of radial angle is greater than that of circumferential angle with the increase of loading forces. This study can provide reference for improving bearing wear resistance.

  • The tribological mechanism between the valve plate and the cylinder block in oil hydraulic axial piston pumps plays an important role on high power density. In this study, the fluid film thickness between the valve plate and the cylinder block was measured with discharge pressure and rotational speed by use of a gap sensor, and a slip ring system in the operating period. To investigate the effect of the valve plate shapes, we designed two valve plates with different shapes . the first valve plate was without a bearing pad, while the second valve plate had a bearing pad. It was found that both valve plates behaved differently with respect to the fluid film thickness characteristics. The leakage flow rates and the shaft torque were also experimented in order to clarify the performance difference between the valve plate without a bearing pad and the valve plate with a bearing pad. From the results of this study, we found out that in the oil hydraulic axial piston pumps, the valve plate with a bearing pad showed better film thickness contours than the valve plate without a bearing pad.

  • In this study, the behavior characteristics of a hydrostatic thrust bearing used in hydraulic equipment was analyzed using a commercial finite element program, ADINA. The solid domain was modeled with the fluid domain simultaneously to solve the fully coupled problem, because this is a problem where a fully coupled analysis is needed in order to model the fluid-structure interaction(FSI). The results such as bearing deformation, stress, film thickness and lifting bearing force were obtained through FSI analysis, and then they were compared with the results calculated from the classical method, a single step sequential analysis. It was found that the result difference between two analyses was increased according to the injection pressure. Therefore, in case of high pressure loading, it is desirable to conduct the FSI analysis to examine the deformation characteristics of a hydrostatic slipper bearing.
