광결정 광섬유를 이용한 WDM-RoF 시스템의 채널간 전력변화 편차 분석 (Interchannel RF Power Fluctuation in WDM-RoF System Employing Photonic Crystal Fiber)

  • 파장분할다중화-무선광통신(WDM-RoF) 시스템에서 광결정 광섬유를 이용하여 채널 간 고주파신호들의 전력변화의 편차를 분석하여 이들을 조절할 수 있음을 확인하였다. WDM-RoF 시스템의 경우, 원격노드에서의 고주파 신호 특성은 파장 의존성을 갖는 단일모드 광섬유의 분산 특성으로 인해 전송거리 증가에 대한 고주파신호 수신 전력 변화가 채널의 파장에 따른 편차를 나타내게 되며, 이는 전체 시스템 설계시 전송거리에 대한 제한 요소로 작용할 수 있다. 광결정 광섬유의 분산보상 특성을 이용하여 WDM 채널에 따른 고주파 전송특성을 개선할 수 있는 광결정 광섬유를 설계하고, 이를 통해 채널간 고주파 전송특성의 편차를 분석하였다.

  • Recently, there is a tendency to design the large full ships with lower-powered engine as the means for energy saving in ship's navigation at seas. Such a lower-powered ship is anticipated to show the different propulsive performance in rough seas, because the fluctuation of main engine load of lower powered ship is relatively large as compared with higher-powered ship is relatively large as compared with higher-powered ship. The fluctuation of propeller load is nonlinear at racing condition in waves. It is due to the variation of inflow velocity into propeller, the propeller immersion and the characteristics of engine governor. In this paper, the theoretical calculation of the nominal speed loss and the numerical simulation for the nonlinear load fluctuation of a model ship in rough seas are carried out. From the results of calculation, the following are discussed. (1) The ratio of nominal speed loss to the speed in still water. (2) The manoeuvring ability of ship and the operational ability of main engine in a seaway. (3) A method of the evaluation for the fluctuation of propeller torque and revolution on the engine characteristics plane. (4) The effect of engine governor characteristics on the propeller load fluctuation.

  • In gas turbine technology, the flame stability is inherently greater in conventional diffusion type combustion over a wider range fuel to oxidizer ratio. However, premixed type combustion which has narrow flame stability region, is widely used due to environmental reason. It has been observed in experiments that combustion instability of low frequency (${\sim}10Hz$) results from the modulation of equivalence ratio at fuel injection hole when a pressure fluctuation propagates upwards along the channel of the burner under an unchoked fuel flow condition. In this study, a commercial program was used to determine how the fuel flow rate changed with respect to the pressure, velocity of the fuel flow and the mass fraction in a choked and an unchoked condition. The calculation focuses on the upstream of the dump plane to know how the forced pressure with the fuel injection conditions affects the modulation of the equivalence ratio. Therefore, it is found that pressure fluctuation leads to oscillation of mass flow rate and then results in equivalence ratio modulation under the unchoked fuel flow condition.

Effect of groundwater fluctuation on load carrying performance of shallow foundation

  • The groundwater level (GWL) is an important subsoil condition for the design of foundation. GWL tends to fluctuate often with seasonal variation, which may cause unexpected, additional settlements with some reductions in the safety margin of foundation. In this study, the effects of fluctuating GWL on the load carrying and settlement behavior of footing were investigated and quantified. A series of model load tests were conducted for various GWL and soil conditions using a hydraulically-controlled chamber system. Changes in load level and rising and falling GWL fluctuation cycle were considered in the tests. Settlements during GWL rise were greater than those during GWL fall. The depth of the GWL influence zone ($\underline{d}_{w,inf}$) varied in the range of 0.3 to 1.5 times footing width and became shallower as GWL continued to fluctuate. Design equations for estimating GWL-induced settlements for footings were proposed. The GWL fluctuation cycle, load level and soil density were considered in the proposed method. Changes in settlement and factor of safety with GWL fluctuation were discussed.

  • Moving average precipitation provides periodic precipitation patterns by solving precipitation irregularities. However, due to uncertain moving average periods, excessive data smoothing occurs, which limit the possibility to analyze groundwater levels in the short term. Nonetheless, groundwater level fluctuation can compensate these limitations as it can calculate appropriately for unit time and verify the effect of precipitation penetrated into groundwater in a short time period. In this study, the characteristics of groundwater level were evaluated using groundwater level fluctuation to compensate for limitations of groundwater level analysis using moving average precipitation. In addition, the groundwater quality was investigated using the electrical conductivity fluctuation. The study site was Hyogyo-ri, Yesan-si, Chungcheongnam-do. Four observation wells and an automated weather system were used. The correlation between groundwater level fluctuation and precipitation (Case 1) and the correlation between groundwater level and moving average precipitation (Case 3) were compared. In the analysis for 1 hour data, the correlation coefficient of Case 1 was higher than that of Case 3, and in the analysis for 1 day data, the correlation coefficient of Case 3 was higher than that of Case 1.

Effect of Intraoperative Glucose Fluctuation and Postoperative IL-6, TNF-α, CRP Levels on the Short-term Prognosis of Patients with Intracranial Supratentorial Neoplasms

  • Objective: To investigate the effect of intraoperative glucose fluctuation and postoperative interlukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-${\alpha}$ (TNF-${\alpha}$), C-reactive protein (CRP) levels on the short-term prognosis of patients with intracranial supratentorial neoplasms. Materials and Methods: Eighty-six patients undergoing intracranial excision were selected in The Second Hospital of Jilin University. According to the condition of glucose fluctuation, the patients were divided into group A (glucose fluctuation <2.2 mmol/L, n=57) and group B (glucose fluctuation ${\geq}2.2mmol/L$, n=29). Glucose was assessed by drawing 2 mL blood from internal jugular vein in two groups in the following time points, namely fasting blood glucose 1 d before operation ($T_0$), 5 min after anesthesia induction ($T_1$), intraoperative peak glucose ($T_2$), intraoperative lowest glucose ($T_3$), 5 min after closing the skull ($T_4$), immediately after returning to intensive care unit (ICU) ($T_5$) and 2 h after returning to ICU ($T_6$). 1 d before operation and 1, 3 and 6 d after operation, serum IL-6 and TNF-${\alpha}$ levels were detected with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and CRP level with immunoturbidimetry. Additionally, postoperative adverse reactions were monitored. Results: There was no statistical significance between two groups regarding the operation time, anesthesia time, amount of intraoperative bleeding and blood transfusion (P>0.05). The glucose levels in both groups at $T_1{\sim}T_6$ went up conspicuously compared with that at $T_0$ (P<0.01), and those in group B at $T_2$, $T_4$, $T_5$ and $T_6$ were significantly higher than in group A (P<0.01). Serum IL-6, TNF-${\alpha}$ and CRP levels in both groups 1, 3 and 6 d after operation increased markedly compared with 1 d before operation (P<0.01), but the increased range in group A was notably lower than in group B (P<0.05 or P<0.01). Postoperative incidences of hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia and myocardial ischemia in group A were significantly lower than in group B (P<0.05), and respiratory support time obviously shorter than in group B (P<0.01). Conclusions: The glucose fluctuation of patients undergoing intracranial excision is related to postoperative IL-6, TNF-${\alpha}$ and CRP levels and those with small range of glucose fluctuation have better prognosis.

  • 3차원 시뮬레이션을 이용하여 터널링 전계효과 트랜지스터(TFET)의 불순물 분포 변동(RDF) 효과에 대해 살펴보았다. TFET의 RDF 효과는 매우 낮은 바디 도핑 농도 때문에 많이 논의되지 않았다. 하지만 본 논문에서는 임의로 생성되고 분포되는 소스 불순물이 TFET의 문턱전압 ($V_{th}$)과 드레인 유기 전류 증가 (DICE), 문턱전압이하 기울기 (SS)의 변화를 증가시킴을 발견하였다. 또한, TFET의 RDF 효과를 감소시킬 수 있는 몇 가지 방법을 제시하였다.

  • In the present paper, the behavior of bubbles in a fluidized bed has been investigated experimentally. The bubble size, distribution of bubble, bubble rising velocity and pressure fluctuation in the fluidized bed are obtained at different air velocity. The results are discussed and compared study the effect of air velocity on the behavior of a bubbles in fluidized bed.

Interference of Acoustic Signals Due to Internal Waves in Shallow Water

  • To investigate internal waves (IW) effect on acoustic wave propagation, m analysis is conducted on mode travel time and model simulation. Based on the thermistor string data, it can be shown that the thermocline depth variation may cause travel time difference as much as 4-10 ms between mode 1 and 2 over range 10 km. This travel time difference causes interference among modes and thus fluctuation from range-independent stratified ocean structure. In real situations, however, there exist additionally spatial variation of IW. Model simulation with all modes and simple IW shows clear responses of acoustic signals to IW, amplitude and phase fluctuation.
