하절기 콘크리트의 품질특성 변화에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Quality Fluctuation of Hot Weather Concrete)

  • Generally, according to rising of atmospheric temperature, a consistency of concrete decreases, and a slump property of concrete is changed to be large. Also, in the strength development of concrete, the strength development rate of long-term age(28day) in comparison to strength of early age(7day) and the absolute compressive strength decreases. Accordingly, in this study, experiments about quality evaluation of concrete utilizing Ordinary Portland Cement is carried out. As a result of experiments, there were a conspicuous change in slump of concrete due to temperature increase. In conclusion, the rising of atmospheric temperature was very important factor in affecting the quality fluctuation of hot weather concrete.

  • The water level fluctuation (WLF) method is a conventional method for quantifying groundwater recharge by multiplying the specific yield to the water level rise. A 2-D unconfined flow model with a time series of the recharge rate is developed. It is used for elucidating the errors of the WLF method which is implicitly based on the tank model where the horizontal flow in the saturated zone is ignored. Simulations show that the recharge estimated by the WLF method is underestimated for the observation well near the discharge boundary. This is due to the fact that the hydraulic stress resulting from the recharge is rapidly dissipating by the horizontal flow near the discharge boundary Simulations also reveal that the recharge was significantly underestimated with increase in the hydraulic conductivity and the recharge duration, and decrease in the specific yield.

  • Unsteady nature of a tip leakage vortex in an axial flow fan operating at a design and off-design operating conditions has been investigated by measuring the velocity fluctuation in a blade passage with a rotating hotwire probe sensor. Two hot-wire probe sensors rotating with the fan rotor were also introduced to obtain the cross-correlation coefficient between the two sensors located in the vortical flow as well as the fluctuating velocity. The results show that the vortical flow structure near the rotor tip can be clearly observed at the quasi-orthogonal planes to a tip leakage vortex. The leakage vortex is enlarged as the flow rate is decreased, thus resulting in the high blockage to main flow. The spectral peaks due to the fluctuating velocity near the rotor tip are mainly observed in the reverse flow region at higher flow rates than the peak pressure operating condition. However, no peak frequency presents near the rotor tip for near stall condition.

  • Domestic construction materials market was about 65 trillion won and it occupied 45% level of total construction cost by 2007. In addition, due to the recent rapid rise of crude oil and iron ore price, fluctuation of raw material cost has a great influence to the cost of construction industry. This means that smooth performance is closely related to construction materials. And among them, because of high putting rate of metal materials, it can be seen that the fluctuation of metal material prices is an important variables. So in this study, for the pre-study to analyze the impact of metallic material prices to construction cost, the researcher analyzed a causal relationship between metal material prices and construction cost.

Experimental Study on Surge Inception in a Centrifugal Compressor

  • An investigation of surge inception in a centrifugal compressor was done with measurements of steady and unsteady static pressure. Vaneless diffuser and vaned diffuser were tested. Analyses of the static pressure and the pressure fluctuation showed that stall at the impeller leading edge occurred at first, and then it extended to downstream. In case of the vaneless diffuser, deterioration of the pressure rise in the impeller triggered instability. For the vande diffuser, instability that was generated in the impeller propagated into the vaned diffuser, however the pressure recovery by the vaned diffuser made the operation of the compressor stable at low flow rate.

  • In the SI engine, the improvement of combustion stability is important not only for the fuel consumption rate but also for the emission control at idling of engine. Thus the engine speed fluctuation at idle operation mainly comes from cyclic variation of combustion in the SI engine. In this syudy, the improvement of combustion stability for the SI engine at idle condition by the cooling water temperature, duty ratio of ISC, spark ignition timing as well as the reducement of the harmful exhaust gas emission was discussed.

Direct Time-domain Phase Correction of Dual-comb Interferograms for Comb-resolved Spectroscopy

  • We describe a comb-mode resolving spectroscopic technique by direct time-domain phase correction of unstable interferograms obtained from loosely locked two femtosecond lasers. A low-cost continuous wave laser and conventional repetition rate stabilization method were exploited for locking carrier and envelope phase of interferograms, respectively. We intentionally set the servo control at low bandwidth, resulting in severe interferograms' fluctuation to demonstrate the capability of the proposed correction method. The envelope phase of each interferogram was estimated by a quadratic fit of carrier peaks to correct timing fluctuation of interferograms in the time domain. After envelope phase correction on individual interferograms, we successfully demonstrated 1 Hz linewidth of RF comb-mode over 200 GHz optical spectral-bandwidth with 10-times signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) enhancement compared to the spectrum without correction. Besides, the group delay difference between two femtosecond pulses is successfully estimated through a linear slope of phase information.

PPG 신호를 이용한 운동 중 맥박수 측정 (Heart-rate Measurement During Exercise Using PPG Signal)

  • A method of measuring heart rate using photoplethysmograph(PPG) signal during exercise is proposed. PPG's are composed of strong base tones and their harmonics, and the strong base tones are trackable by the adaptive notch filter (ANF) which adjusts its coefficients to minimize the output power. The proposed heart rate measurement algorithm continuously notches the frequency component with the maximum power in the measured PPG, so that the fundamental frequency corresponding to heart rate is traced. We also presents methods of detecting degeneration and impulsive noise blocks to minimize the coefficient fluctuation. Experiments were conducted using real PPG signals captured during exercise. Results showed that the proposed algorithm is capable of consistently tracking the heart rate embedded in the noisy PPG's.

  • 환율의 신뢰구간을 예측하기 위해 가장 중요한 요인은 분포의 추정이다. 그러나 시계열 자료의 분포를 추정하는 것은 많은 어려움이 따른다. 본 연구에서는 변동률 합의 분포를 비모수기법 중의 하나인 블록화 붓스트랩 방법을 사용하여 추정한다. 따라서 좀 더 쉽고 정확한 환율의 장단기 신뢰구간 예측 모형을 제시한다.

Detection of Earnings Management as a Measure of Income Smoothing on Fluctuations in Exchange Rates: Managerial Implications for Korean Exporters

  • Purpose - Foreign Exchange Rates (FER) have been one of the most significant factors for both Korean exporters and the economy of Korea. The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether exporters with a high level of Exchange Rate Elasticity of Sales (ERES) make the use of earnings management for Income Smoothing (IS). Design/methodology - Income smoothing was obtained using the methodology suggested by Leuz, Nanda and Wysocki (2003). Accruals-based Earnings Management (AEM) was estimated using Discretionary Accruals (DA) calculated by the operant Jones Model developed by Dechow, Sloan and Sweeney (1995). Real Earnings Management (REM) was obtained using the methodologies suggested by Roychowdhury (2006) and Cohen and Zarowin (2010). Data were 2,402 firm years of public listed companies on the KRX, which were not in the financial industry and had a settlement of accounts in December for the period from 2013 to 2017. Findings - Results of the evaluation are as follows. First, companies with higher levels of ERES have relatively lower levels of smoothing of reported income. This might be because a fluctuation in sales caused by an exchange rate fluctuation has a direct impact on the volatility of the reported income. Second, companies with high levels of both ERES and IS have a positive correlation with both AEM and REM. This might be because companies with high levels of IS engage in earnings management to smooth reported income. Specifically, it is possible to assume that for smoothing the reported income, not only AEM but also REM is practiced. Third, companies with high levels of ERES but low levels of IS have a negative correlation with both AEM and REM. This could be interpreted as companies exhibiting low levels of IS due to higher levels of ERES tend to control IS. In addition, such results were supported by firms relying highly on exporting, and are consequently sensitive to exchange rate fluctuation. Therefore, it may conclude that companies with high levels of ERES make the use of earnings management as a means of IS. Originality/value - This study can find its significance from the fact that it is the first study, empirically verifying that companies of Korea, where exportation is a large part, use both AEM and REM as a means for smoothing reported income upon facing exchange rate fluctuations. In addition, it is highly expected that the results of this study could be useful for participants of financial markets when making IS-related decisions.
