Effects of Adding Bamboo leaves Powder on the Quality of Jeolpyon (댓잎분말을 첨가한 댓잎절편의 일반성분 및 품질특성)

  • This study investigated the effect of bamboo leaf powder, added at content of 0%, 3%, 6%, 9% and 12%, on the quality and sensory characteristics of rice cake imprinted with flower pattern (Ed-there is no respecitive comparison here) The chemical composition as a whole was 3.07${\pm}$0.12% of moisture, 5.87${\pm}$0.02% of crude protein, 2.52${\pm}$0.05% of crude fat, 23.70${\pm}$0.07% of crude fiber and 7.73${\pm}$0.02% of crude ash. With increasing amount of added bamboo leaf powder, the hardness and chewiness of the cake were significantly increased(p<0.05), while the cohesiveness, springiness and adhesiveness were decreased. In chromaticity, the L-value, the indicator of brightness, was significantly decreased with increasing bamboo leaf powder content. The a-value, the indicator of redness, was significantly lower than the chlorophyll color (p<0.05). The b-value, the indicator of yellowness, was increased indirect proportion to the content. In sensory test, the sensory characteristics such as color, flavor, taste and chewiness were all stronger with increasing powder content, whereas the softness and dampness were weaker. The greatest overall satisfaction was achieved by the sample group of cake with 6% preference added powder.

  • For this purpose, research was made to look into the style, material, organization, and legal as well as institutional system of the bonsai industry in the three countries. In order to understand what significance it has and how it has changed historically, related literature was surveyed and questionnaires were distributed to the concerned people to collect the data needed for them to plan bonsai industry. The results of the survey are as follows. Analysis of awareness of bonsai culture, respondents replied that the motive and purpose of bonsai is because they like flower trees, and the technical information about bonsai is usually obtained by visits to bonsai gardens. The analysis revealed that respondents usually join more than one bonsai club and are active more than once a month, which means longer than 4 hours each month, and their activities are more frequently in the metropolitan area. From the analysis of preference for bonsai culture, it was made known that the favorite bonsai size is less than middle one(20~50cm), the characteristics of the favorite species are beauty. A research and analysis of bonsai-related technical education found that bonsai is trimmed manually in general, bonsai experts are usually kept in contact with, and the bonsai technique is learned through interaction with the experts.

A Study on the Planting and Use of Landscaping Plants in Chuncheon (춘천시의 조경식물의 식재와 이용 현황)

  • This study was executed to find out how to improve the planting and use of landscaping plants in Chuncheon. The number of street trees was 17,877 in 2003. The major species of street trees were Ginkgo biloba(52.7%), Prunus sargentii(15.3%), Zelkova serrata(8.9%), Platanus occidentalis(7.3%). Salix babylonica and Platanus occidentalis were decreased, while Prunus sargentii and Zelkova serrata were increased. Salix babylonica is a good species for a lakeside city, but its seeds cause allergies to some people. Most of the trees have been removed in Chuncheon. The planting of Salix babylonica(♂) resulted in no problems, and it should be propagated to plant. The soil of several areas was analysed to investigate soil conditions. The outskirts of city had good conditions in pH, organic matter and minerals, but the downtown areas had high alkalic, due to alkali from footpath concrete blocks. Appropriate pruning adds to the aesthetic and prolongs the useful life; it also requires less managing of insects and diseases to maintain good healthy of street trees. Street trees were not properly pruned due to electric lines and shortage of pruning information. The pruning was controlled by Korea Electric Power Co, which has no pruning information. Pruning must be maintained by a professional landscape company to maintain good shape such as with Bonsai. The Shrubs planting zone between street trees and other trees, and preservation plates were established for healthy of street trees. They have to be repaired and maintained well to keep better environmental conditions. The number of tree and flower species of 68 schools in Chuncheon were 12 and 16, respectively. The species that showed high preference were Juniperus chinensis, Pinus koraiensis, Pinus densiflora, Rosa centifolia, Forsythia koreana, and Rhododendron schlippenbachii. The high frequency of the protection trees designated by Chuncheon were Pinus densiflora, Ginko biloba, Zelkova serrata, Quercus species. It was thought that the diversification of street tree species, the selection of street trees suitable to each space, the generalization of use of native species, the appropriate pruning and proper fertilization, the control of pests and diseases, and the opinions of citizens concerning landscape plants were needed to improve the planting, use and maintenance of landscaping plants in Chuncheon.

Relationship between Indoor Plants in Apartments and Happiness Index of Citizens in Seoul (서울시 아파트가구내의 실내식물이 행복지수에 미치는 영향)

  • In order to research the effects that indoor plants of apartments in Seoul have on the happiness index, we tried to analyze relationships between indoor plants which are nearest to the residents and happiness which is the final goal of the residents, and for this 200 residents who live in apartments in the Seoul city area were sampled. This study was based on the precedent studies of the facts that horticultural therapy and function of plants had already proven the affirmative roles of plants to people. The results were as follows. Residents reported that they were happiest when the plants were blooming(57%), when the plants were sprouting(33%), when repotting(2%), when distributing(2%) and others(7%). The residents exposed to indoor plants were in direction proportion to the happiness index within 1hour. Happiness indexes of the residents who cared for potted plants were by themselves was 67.90, when family members cared for the plants, 65.09, and when others cared, it was 64.79. The preference of indoor plants and the happiness index according to the scale of interior gardens were in direct proportion. Lastly, the happiness index of residents according to the number of potted plants, was in direct proportion: the more potted plants, the greater the happiness index.

Study on the Preferences of Horticulture According to MBTI Personality Type in College Students (대학생의 MBTI 성격유형에 따른 원예선호도에 관한 연구)

ST flowering plants in the 37.5%, 29.2% of the seasonal green leafy foliage was preferred. Depending on the psychological features a selection for your favorite flora also indicates a difference (p=0.038). MBTI personality types based on the four indicators in the form of leaves and flowers preferred type for accident analysis determined a feature based on the emotional type, meaning that it leaves the choice of form, and (p=0.036), determined according to the type-aware select a flower type refers to the difference (p=0.025).

Sensory and Physical Characteristics of Hwajeun Depended on the Various Levels of Oil Amounts and frying Time (기름의 양과 지지는 시간에 따른 화전의 관능적 및 물리적 특성)

  • The aim of this study was to standardize the various methods and recipes of Hwajeun (glutinous rice pancake with flower) appeared in the literature. For this purpose, the effects on the sensory and rheological characteristics of Hwajeun in terms of the various levels of oil and frying times were investigated. This experiment consisted of a sensory evaluation in terms of the acceptance (color, flavor, oily feeling, softness, chewiness, adhesiveness, taste and overall preference) and objective evaluation performed by a texture analyzer, a color difference meter and measurements of the water content and oil absorption. The moisture content of the treatments as a function of the frying time, S7, showed a significantly(p<0.01) low value, and the oil absorption of the Hwajeun made with different frying times increased in proportion to the increment of the frying time(p<0.001). In terms of color, the b value of the Hwajeun made with 16g oil for frying showed a higher value than the others. In the two bite compression test, the hardness of the Hwajeun made with 4g oil for frying showed a significantly (p<0.001) high value among the S2 and S3 samples. As a result of the sensory evaluation for the Hwajeun made with various amounts of oil and frying times, the Hwajeun made with 16g oil for frying and a 2 min frying time for each side (S6) was the most preferred in terms of the softness, chewiness, taste and overall preference of the sensory evaluation

A Study on the Useful Trend of Plants Related to Landscape and How to Plant and Cultivate Through 'ImwonGyeongjaeji(林園經濟志)' ('임원경제지'를 통해 본 식물의 이용경향과 종예법(種藝法))

  • The result of a study on the useful trend of plants related to landscape and how to plant and cultivate through 'ImwonGyeongjaeji Manhakji'of Seoyugu is as follows: First, 'ImwonGyeongjaiji Manhakji', composed of total 5 volumes (General, Fruit trees, vegetables and creeper, plants, others) is a representative literature related to landscape which described the names of plants and varieties, soil condition, how to plant and cultivate, graft, how to prevent the insect attack etc systematically. Second, he recorded the tree planting as Jongjae(種栽) or Jaesik(栽植), and the period to plant the trees as Jaesusihoo(栽樹時候), transplanting as Yijae(移栽), making the fence as Jakwonri(作園籬), the names of varietieis as Myeongpoom(名品), the suitable soil as Toeui(土宜), planting and cultivation as Jongye(種藝), treatment as Euichi(醫治), protection and breeding as Hoyang(護養), garden as Jeongwon(庭園) or Wonpo(園圃), garden manager as Poja(圃者) or Wonjeong(園丁). Third, the appearance frequency of plants was analyzed in the order of flowers, fruits, trees, and creepers and it showed that the gravity of deciduous trees was 3.7 times higher than that of evergreen trees. The preference of flower and trees, fruit trees and deciduous trees and broad-leaved trees includes (1) application of the species of naturally growing trees which are harmonized with the natural environment (2) Aesthetic value which enables to enjoy the beauty of season, (3) the trend of public welfare to take the flowers and fruits, (4) the use of symbolic elements based on the value reference of Neo-Confucianism etc. Fourth, he suggested the optimal planting period as January(上時) and emphasized to transplant by adding lots of fertile soil and cover up the seeds with soil as high as they are buried in accordance with the growing direction and protect them with a support. That is, considering the fact that he described the optimal planting period as January by lunar calendar, this suggests the hints in judging the planting period today. For planting the seeds, he recommended the depth with 1 chi(寸 : approx. 3.3cm), and for planting a cutting, he recommended to plant the finger-thick branch with depth 5 chi(approx. 16.5cm) between January and February. In case of graft of fruit trees, he described that if used the branch stretched to the south, you would get a lot of fruit and if cut the branches in January, the fruits would be appetizing and bigger. Fifth, the hedge(fence tree) is made by seeding the Jujube tree(Zizyphus jujuba var. inermis) in autumn densely and transplanting the jujube tree with 1 ja(尺 : approx. 30cm) interval in a row in next autumn and then binding them with the height of 7 ja(approx. 210cm) in the spring of next year. If planted by mixing a Elm tree(Ulmus davidiana var. japonica) and a Willow(Salix koreensis), the hedge whose branch and leaves are unique and beautiful like a grating can be made. For the hedge(fence tree), he recommended Trifoliolate orange(Poncitus trifoliata), Rose of sharon(Hibiscus syriacus), Willow(Salix koreensis), Spindle tree(Euonymus japonica), Cherry tree(Prunus tomentosa), Acanthopanax tree(Acanthopanax sessiliflorus), Japanese apricot tree(Prunus mume), Chinese wolf berry(Lycium chinense), Cornelian tree(Cornus officinalis), Gardenia(Gardenia jasminoides for. Grandiflora), Mulberry(Morus alba), Wild rosebush(Rosa multiflora) etc.

Water Purification by Inorganic Ion Absorption Character of Water Lettuce (Pistia stratiotes L.) (물상추의 무기이온 흡수 특성을 이용한 수질정화)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the efficiency of water quality remediation and the inorganic ion removal characteristics by floating plant; water lettuce (Pistia stratiotes L.) in a batch reactor. Water lettuce can be used to remove N and P and other inorganic nutrients, by consuming them in the form of plant nutrient. The highest nutrient absorption of water lettuce was $112.5meL^{-1}\;N$ in Sonneveld-2S, $56.6meL^{-1}\;N$ in Sonneveld-1S, $31.8meL^{-1}\;N$ in sewage and P value was also the highest in Sonneveld-2S as $15.6meL^{-1}$ and in sewage as $5.0meL^{-1}$. These results indicated that using water lettuce held some promise in the context of purification of eutrophication. Also water lettuce had a preference for absorption N. Under Sonneveld-2S treatment, nitrogen percentage was the highest in plant tissue due to the highest concentration of nitrogen and removal by water lettuce. Under sewage, percentage of total N in both plant parts was high. Both above and underground parts, P percentage was less than N. It might be due to the fact that the absorption amount of P was less than N by water lettuce. It meaned that the ability of N removal by water lettuce was higher than that of P, relatively. In summary, these results show that the use of this plant was a viable option.
