  • This paper addresses the technology of active flow control for stabilizing a flow field. In order for flow field modeling from the control point of view, the huge-data set from CFD(computational fluid dynamics) are reduced by using a POD(Proper Orthogonal Decomposition) method. And then the flow field is expressed with dynamic equation by low-order modelling approach based on the time and frequency domain analysis. A neural network flow estimator from the pressure information measured on the surface is designed for the estimation of the flow state in the space. The closed-loop system is constructed with feedback flow controller for stabilizing the vortices on the flow field.

  • The fluid flow for a energy transfer is essential for the design and operation of power plants, petrochemical plants and ships including a process. When the operating conditions of a plant are changed or any transitional event occured, the flow controls of a fluid must be performed to follow the new operating state or mitigate the results of a event. Generally these flow controls to accommodate the new operating state of a plant are made by the use of various valves. The refore the design of valves and the related techniques are very important to the system and component designs. However the system and component design are not familiar with the practical theory of the valve since the derivative procedures of the flow equations in a valve are difficult and it is not easy to found the theoretical foundamentals and informations about the design of a valve from the present references. In this study the flow equations applicable to a valve for liquid are theoretically derived in detail. And the definition of valve reynolds number and its boundary values between the tubulent and laminar flow is described compared with the values of a circular pipe flow.

  • The tumble or swirl flow is used to promote mixing of air and fuel in the cylinder and to enlarge turbulent intensity in the end of the compression stroke. Since the in-cylinder flow is a kind of transient state with rapid flow variation, which is non-steady state flow, the tumble or swirl flow has not been analyzed sufficiently whether they are applicable to combustion theoretically. In the investigation of intake turbulent characteristics using PIV method, typical flow characteristics were figured out by SCV configurations. An engine installed SCV had higher vorticity and turbulent strength by fluctuation and turbulent kinetic energy than a baseline engine, especially near the cylinder wall and lower part of the cylinder. Above all, the engine with SCV 8 was superior to the others in aspect of vorticity and turbulent strength. For energy dissipation, a baseline engine had much higher energy loss than the engine installed SCV because flow impinged on the cylinder wall. Consequently, as swirl flow was added to existing tumble flow, it was found that fluctuation increased and flow energy was conserved effectively through the experiment.

  • In vacuum ejector-diffuser systems where a finite volume secondary chamber is used, the secondary jet exhibits transient characteristics during start-up. A steady state is achieved after some time in which mass entrainment prevails indefinitely inside the ejector, though there is no flow from the secondary chamber. An attempt is made in this work to study the infinite entrainment of secondary jet into the primary jet from a finite secondary chamber, with the help of a computational fluid dynamics method. The present study is also intended to identify the operating range of vacuum ejector-diffuser systems where the steady flow assumption can be applied without uncertainty. The results obtained show that the only condition in which an infinite mass entrainment is possible is the generation of a re-circulation zone near the primary nozzle exit. The flow in the secondary chamber attains a state of dynamic equilibrium at this point. Steady flow assumption is valid only after this point.

  • To investigate the characteristics of orifice as an expansion devices, the experimental apparatus was made and experiments are being peformed using R22 and R290. The main idea of this control method of refrigerant flow rate with coupled orifices is to control the ON/OFF state of T and Ball type orifice corresponding to the subdivided region of thermal load. When system requires minimum thermal load, both T and Ball type orifices are closed, but refrigerant can flow through small hole of T type orifice. In regular thermal load, when ball type orifice is closed, T type orifice is opened and mass flow rate increase more than OFF state of T type orifice, due to large diameter. In maximum thermal load, both T and Ball type orifices are open and the much refrigerant can flow. The flow characteristics on T type orifice and parallel-combined orifice are obtained in the subdivided region of thermal load.

  • In this paper, we propose a new approach to solve stochastic fluid flow models applied to the analysis of ceil loss of an ATM multiplexer. Existing stochastic fluid flow models have been analyzed by using linear differential equations. In case of large state space, however. analyzing stochastic fluid flow model without numerical errors is not easy. To avoid this numerical errors and to analyze stochastic fluid flow model with large state space. we develope a new computational algorithm. Instead of solving differential equations directly, this approach uses iterative and numerical method without calculating eigenvalues. eigenvectors and boundary coefficients. As a result, approximate solutions and upper and lower bounds are obtained. This approach can be applied to stochastic fluid flow model having general Markov chain structure as well as to the superposition of heterogeneous ON-OFF sources it can be extended to Markov process having non-exponential sojourn times.

  • Flow with suction to water turbine must be in stable state at small hydraulic power plant. But because of water level fluctuation and water gate effect according to irregular supply of cooling water, it would happen to produce bubble and vortex and finally lead to problems in power-plant system. With utilizing the concept design of double size gate, surface water overflowed the overhead of gate for stable flow at suction. We developed the overflow condition and analyzed the design factor with existed one such as water level(overflow amount) and overhead of water gate(overflow figure). Flow test and CFD simulation say that flow have stable state around suction and 20% of wave reduction effect at surface layer after surface water overflow.

  • The greatest suction on the cladding of flat roof low-rise buildings is known to occur beneath the conical vortices that form along the roof edges for cornering winds. In a companion paper, a model of the vortex flow mechanism has been developed which can be used to connect the surface pressure beneath the vortex to adjacent flow conditions. The flow model is experimentally validated in this paper using simultaneous velocity and surface pressure measurement on a 1 : 50 model of the Texas Tech University experimental building in a wind tunnel simulated atmospheric boundary layer. Flow visualization gives further insight into the nature of peak suction events. The flow model is shown to account for the increase in suction towards the roof corner as well as the presence of the highest suction at wind angles of $60^{\circ}$. It includes a parameter describing vortex suction strength, which is shown to be related to the nature of the reattachment, and also suggests how different components of upstream turbulence could influence the surface pressure.

  • Continuation power flow has been developed to remove the ill-condition problem caused by singularity of power flow Jacobian at and near at steady-state voltage instability point in conventional power flow. Continuation power flow consists of predictor and corrector. In prddictor, the direction vector at the resent solution is caluculated and the initial guess of next solution is determined at the distance of step length. The selection of step length is a very important part, since computational speed and convergence performance are both greatly affected by the choice of the step length. This paper presents the practical step length selection algorithm using the reactive power generation sensitivith. In numulation, the proposed algorithm is compared with step length selection algorithm using TVI(tangent vector index).

  • Because the random early detection(RED) algorithm deals all flows with the same best-effort traffic characteristic, it can not correctly control the output link bandwidth for the flows with different traffic characteristics. To remedy this problem, several per-flow algorithms have been proposed. In this paper, we propose a new per-flow type Fair Droptail algorithm which can fairly allocate bandwidth among flows over a shared output link. By evenly allocating buffers per flow, the Fair Droptail can restrict a flow not to use more bandwidth than others. In addition, it can be simply implemented even if it employs the per-flow state mechanism, because the Fair Droptail only keeps each information of flow in active state.
