An experimental study is carried out to investigate the effects of air and water mass flow rates on cooling characteristics of mist impinging jet on a flat plate. Experiments are conducted with air mass flow rates from 0.0 to 3.0 g/s, and water mass flow rates from 5.0 to 20.0 g/s. An air-atomizing nozzle is used for the purpose of controlling air and water mass flow rates. In this study, a new test section is designed to obtain local heat transfer coefficient distributions. Heat transfer characteristics of the mist impinging jet are explained with the aid of flow visualization. Surface temperature and heat transfer coefficient distributions become more uniform as air mass flow rate increases, and that the increases in water flow rate mainly enhance cooling performance. Air mass flow rate weakly influences averaged heat transfer coefficient when water mass flow rate is low, but averaged heat transfer coefficient increases remarkably as air mass flow rate in case of high water mass flow rate.

The effect of Reynolds number on the performance of a regenerative pump was examined in a low Reynolds number range in experiment. The head of the regenerative pump increased at low flow rates and decreased at high flow rates as the Reynolds number decreased. The computation of the internal flow was made to clarify the cause of the Reynolds number effect. At low flow rates, the head is decreased with increasing the Reynolds number due to the decrease of the shear force exerted by the impeller caused by the increase of leakage and hence local flow rate. At higher flow rates, the head is increased with increasing the Reynolds number with decreased loss at the inlet and outlet as well as the decreased shear stress on the casing wall.

This paper presents the study of flows at T-junction pipe with orifices. Experiments were carried out for several flow rates, orifice sizes, and pressure differences. Numerical simulations were also done to get more data for the wide range of flow rates. Experimental results and numerical ones are in a good agreement. Due to the effect of T-junction part, the flow rates at the lateral pipe are greater than those at straight pipe for the same pressure differences. When orifices were added, the effects of T-junction part on the ratio of flow rates and the ratio of loss coefficients reduced.

The object of this study was to obtain data on air-distributions in two-phase up flow in vertical rod-bundle test-section. The test-section in this study was a hexagonal shaped 61-rod bundle where each rod was wrapped with helical spacers. The variables were flow rates of air and water and air inlet positions. Experimental data were obtained at the outlet of the test-section. The experiments were performed in two parts. Firstly, data were taken at increasing flow rates of air keeping water flow rates constant, and secondly, at simultaneous increase of air and water flow rates. At each flow condition, air supply position could be changed to 4 different positions. Data obtained by electrical void-needle technique were analyed and are presented here in graphical forms for comparison. The results of this study demonstrate qualitatively that air-distribution tends to be more uniform as water flow rates are increased. The air supply positions have noticeable effects on the pattern of air-distribution.
Electricity can be generated when the natural gas passes through a turbo-expander pressure reduction system at natural gas pressure reduction stations. Efficiency of the turbo-expander depends on the ratio of the natural gas flow rates to the design flow rate of the turbo-expander. Therefore, the optimal conditions for the operation of the pressure reduction system can be determined by controlling the natural gas flow rates. In this study, we have calculated the electric energy generation depending on the natural gas flow rates at the two low-pressure reduction stations when the pressure of the natural gas is reduced from 17.5 bar to 8.5 bar and have found the optimal conditions for the turbo-expander pressure reduction system through the comparison with the calculation results. The turbo-expander generates the electric power efficiently for the high natural gas flow rates which variations are slight. The determined design flow rate of the turbo-expander has the highest coverage of the natural gas flow rates. The electricity generation is calculated as much as 9 MW(B station) and 12 MW(D station) at each pressure reduction station.
As a part of studies of drag reduction phenomenon, at the entrance flow region of abrupt contraction tube flowing water, dilute and concentrated drag reducing polymer solutions contraction losses are estimated experimentally. Futher more, entrance lengths are considered theoretically and are measured experimentally. In the present experiment, fluid temperature is fixed l$0^{\circ}C$ and flow rates are 3,000

Performance characteristics of a small propeller fan are numerically investigated solving the continuity and Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations. The Reynolds stresses for turbulent transport are modelled using a k-.epsilon. turbulence model. The present numerical procedure is constructed using the Finite Volume Method with the SIMPLE algorithms. The performance parameters obtained from the calculations are compared with the measured values for the various flow rates. A performance test of the fan shows different characteristics between a radial type at small flow rates and an axial type at large flow rates. Comparisons between the predictions and the measurements show that the predicted results are in good agreement with the measured values and reasonably reproduce the sharp variations of the power and head coefficient around a flow coefficient .PHI.=0.3. These comparisons indicate that the present numerical method is capable of resolving the performance characteristics with reasonable accuracy. At low flow rates, it is found that the flow enters the fan in an axial direction and is discharged radially outward at the tip which happens in the centrifugal fan. The centrifugal effect makes a significant difference in the characteristics of a fan at the low and high values of flow coefficient.

To investigate the effects of facial temperature and blood flow rates generated by Miso Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture treatment. Ten women in their twenties to fifties with no skin diseases were recruited. Miso Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture(MFRA) was performed on the both sides of their face. We measured their facial temperature using Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging(DITI) and blood flow rates using Laser Doppler Perfusion Imaging(LDPI) at pre-treatment, immediately, twenty and sixty minutes after treatment. We analyzed data using student's t-test(p<0.05). After MFRA treatment, facial temperature on the measurement area increased immediately from $30.5{\pm}1.0^{\circ}C$ to $31.5{\pm}1.0^{\circ}C$, a statistically significant increase. Sixty minutes after treatment, facial temperature on the measurement area decreased a little bit($30.2{\pm}0.6^{\circ}C$), but there was no statistical significance. After MFRA treatment, facial blood flow rates on the measurement area increased immediately from $165.1{\pm}52.3$ PU to $342.7{\pm}51.3$ PU, a statistically significant increase. Sixty minutes after treatment, facial blood flow rates measurement area were recovered almost at the same level as before treatment. MFRA treatment could increase facial temperature and blood flow rates.
This study was designed to measure viscosity, osmolality and in vitro flow rates via nasogastric tubes for 6 types of commercially available and 9 hospital-blenderized enteral solutions and to examine the effect of viscosity and osmolaility of enteral formula on the flow rates in gravity drip administration. Each solution was infused through 18, 16, 14, 12 French sizes of silicone rubber tube. Flow rates were measured six times at $25^{\circ}C$ using formula bags and drip sets hung at a uniform height on a intravenous drip stand with tube uniformly positioned in collecting container. Viscosity ranged widely from 16.0 to 195.5 cps with mean, 64.61$\pm$64.42 for hospital-blenderized formula while mean viscosity of commercial formula was 7.60$\pm$4.84 cps. Mean osmolality of commercial formula and hospital-blenderized formula were 370$\pm$100.80, 540.33$\pm$89.37 mOsm/kg respectively. There was negative relationship between viscosity of formula and flow rates through tubes but no significant relationship between flow rates and osmolalty. Some of hospital-blenderized formula was too viscous to be infused througth tube with gravity drip administration and the recipe of formula requires to be modiifed. On the other hand, commercial formula with the low viscosity flows too rapidly with large bore size tubes. Smaller size of tube must be selected for hyperosmolar solution to decrease possible side effects associated with tube feeding. Two kinds of regression equations for flow rates obtained according to viscosity and tube sizes were also presented for the purpose of practical uses. In conclusion, this study emphasizes that viscosity of fomula, osmolality, patient's tolerance and comfort, caloric density should be considered in the selection of tubes for gravify drip administration.
