Atrial septal defect is one of the most frequently encountered congenital heart disease. Up to December 31, 1976, 1682 cardiac patients received cardiac catheterization in the cardiac department of Yonsei university medical college. Out of the 1682 cardiac patients 723 cases had congenital heart disease and only 116 cases had congetial atrial septal defect. This amounted to 16.04% of all those with congenital heart disease. 58 cases of congenital atrial septal defect operated in the chest surgery department were presented. Of these 58 cases of atrial septal defect, 27 cases were male and 31 cases were female. Their ages ranged from 5 years to 54 years. The systolic pressure of the main pulmonary artery of 40 out of the 58 cases of atrial septal defect was below 40% of that of the systemic blood pressure: in 6 cases, the range of the systolic pressure of the main pulmonary artery was 50-90mmHg; in 12 cases, the range of the systolic pressure of the main pulmonary artery was 40-50mmHg. Average age of these was 30. 1 years. This study tends to show that Korean patients with atrial septal defect even though younger have a slight higher systolic pressure of the main pulmonary artery than Western patients have. The pulmonary blood is 1.5-2.5 times of systemic blood flow in 52 cases out of 58 cases of atrial septal defect.In only one of the 58 cases of atrial septal defect, the Rp was found to be as high as 45% of Rs. All other cases were below this level.51 cases had ostium secundum defect, 4 out of these cases had ostium secundum defect combined with mitral incompetence and 6 out of them had double ostium secundum defect. The remaining 7 cases had ostium primum defect. Their atrial defects were repaired under direct vision utilizing extracorporeal circulation, by hemodilution technic combined with moderate hypothermia. 44 cases [2nd atrial septal defect] were repaired by direct sutures while 14 cases, including the 7 cases ostium primum defects needed patches [1 pericardium and 13 teflon patch]. In 4 cases there were single defects while showed two defects. However the associated septal defect was so small that it could be closed by direct sutures. The size of the defect ranged between 6.0cm2and 10.0cm2 in 19 cases[33.7%]: the smallest being 0. 5cm2 and the largest 24cm2. The surgical mortality was 2 cases [3.4%]. These one case with ostium primum defect, could not be resuscitated on operation table. The cause of death in this case was myocardial failure and MI. The other, a case of ostium primum defect had a second operation on the first operative day due to massive bleeding from LV vent-line insertion site.The patient died on 26th post-operative day due to sepsis.

Backgrouds: It is almost universally accepted that occlusive vascular diseases are best managed by anatomical reconstruction. However, the mortality and the morbidity have limited this operation for patients with high operation risks. In these patients, palliative operations such as extra-anatomic bypass and lumbar sympathectomy, are accepted as useful treatment. Material and Method: A retrospective study was conducted in 38 patients who underwent palliative operations for occlusive vascular disease at Korea University Guro Hospital between 1996 and 2000. Mean age of the patients was 60.37 $\pm$ 17.65 years, and preoperative diagnoses were atherosclerosis in 32 patients, Buerger's disease in 4 patients, Raynaud's syndrome in 1 patient and SVC syndrome in 1 patient. Result: Extra-anatomic bypass(40procedures), lumbar sympathectomy(17), thromboembolectomy(7) and femoral artery graft interposition(1) were performed. Six patients were required reoperation due to graft flow failure or fistula. Three year primary patency rate of entire operations was 78.29 $\pm$ 8.81%, and the correlation between type of operation and patency rate was not statistically significant. Conclusion: Palliative operations for occlusive vascular disease are useful treatment in limited patients with high operation risks or limited life expectancy.

Dispersed generation (DG) such as wind power (WP) and Photovoltaic systems (PV) that has been promoted at the national level recently is mainly being introduced into distribution systems adjacent to consumers because it is generation on a small scale when compared to current generation. Due to its characteristics, DG can be operated by interconnection with distribution systems to present security of more stable power and efficient use of power facilities and resources. Problems on protection coordination of distribution systems by reverse flow of DG can roughly be divided into three possibilities: excess in rated breaking capacity (12.5KA) of protective devices by a fault in DG current supply, failure to operate protective devices by an apparent effect that can occur by reduction in impedance parallel circuit fault current due to interconnection of DG, and malfunction of protective devices by interconnection transformer connection type. The purpose of this study is to analyze problems in protection coordination that can occur when DG is operated by interconnection with distribution systems by conducting modeling and simulations by using theoretical symmetrical components and MATLAB/SIMULINK to present methods to improve such problems.
This paper describes the experimental results of insulated concrete sandwich wall panels (CSWP) with corrugated glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) shear connectors under in-plane shear loading. Corrugated GFRP shear connectors were used to improve the thermal property of insulated CSWP and to achieve composite action between the interior and exterior concrete wall panels. Test specimens were consist of three concrete panels with two insulation layers between concrete panels and middle concrete panels was loaded in the direction of gravity. To evaluate the effects of insulation types (extruded polystyrene, XPSS and expanded polystyrene, EPS), shear connector pitch (300 and 400 mm) and width (10 and 15 mm) on in-plane shear behavior of insulted CSWP, failure mode and shear flow-average relative slip relationship of specimens were investigated. Test results indicate that the bond stress between concrete panel and insulation is considerable initially. Especially in case of insulated CSWP without shear connector, initial stiffness of CSWP with XPSS is superior to that of CSWP with EPS. The shear connector's contribution to in-plane shear performance of insulated CSWP depends on the type of insulation.

The security requirements identification in the software development has received some attention recently. However, previous methods do not provide clear method and process of security requirements identification. We propose a process that software developers can build application specific security requirements from state transition diagrams at the security threat location. The proposed process consists of building model and identifying application specific security requirements. The state transition diagram is constructed through subprocesses i) the identification of security threat locations using security failure data based on the point that attackers exploit software vulnerabilities and attack system assets, ii) the construction of a state transition diagram which is usable to protect, mitigate, and remove vulnerabilities of security threat locations. The identification Process of application specific security requirements consist of i) the analysis of the functional requirements of the software, which are decomposed into a DFD(Data Flow Diagram; the identification of the security threat location; and the appliance of the corresponding state transition diagram into the security threat locations, ii) the construction of the application specific state transition diagram, iii) the construction of security requirements based on the rule of the identification of security requirements. The proposed method is helpful to identify the security requirements easily at an early phase of software development.
As the petroleum products produced from the Oil refinery industry (ORI), a national key industry in Korea, are supplied to other industries as an intermediate goods, the supply shortage of ORI has a large impact on the national economy. This paper attempts to analyze the supply shortage effects which are defined as the negative impact of one won of supply failure in the ORI on the production of other industries. To this end, an inter-industry analysis using an input-output (I-O) table describing inter-industry flow of intermediate goods is applied. More concretely, the supply-driven model is employed over the period 1990-2012. In addition, the results are compared with those for shipbuilding, semiconductor, and steel industries. The results show that the supply shortage effects are computed to be 0.9205 won when using 2012 I-O table. More specifically, the supply shortage effects on chemical products and transportation industries are computed to be 0.2113 and 0.1140, which are relatively large, The supply shortage effect of ORI is smaller than that of steel industry (1.4131 won), but larger than that of shipbuilding industry (0.0586 won) and that of semiconductor industry (0.1111 won).

Purpose: The present study aimed to evaluate progression and prognosis according to the palliation method used in neonates and early infants aged 3 months or younger who were diagnosed with pulmonary atresia with ventricular septal defect (PA VSD) or tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) with severe pulmonary stenosis (PS) in a single tertiary hospital over a period of 12 years. Methods: Twenty with PA VSD and 9 with TOF and severe PS needed initial palliation. Reintervention after initial palliation, complete repair, and progress were reviewed retrospectively. Results: Among 29 patients, 14 patients underwent right ventricle to pulmonary artery (RV-PA) connection, 11 palliative BT shunt, 2 central shunt, and 2 ductal stent insertion. Median age at the initial palliation was 13 days (1-98 days). Additional procedure for pulmonary blood flow was required in 5 patients; 4 additional BT shunt operations and 1 RV-PA connection. There were 2 early deaths among patients with RV-PA connection, one from RV failure and the other from severe infection. Finally, 25 patients (86%) had a complete repair. Median age of total correction was 12 months (range, 2-31 months). At last follow-up, 2 patients had required reintervention after total correction; 1 conduit replacement and 1 right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) patch enlargements. Conclusion: For initial palliation of patients with PA VSD or TOF with severe PS, not only shunt operation but also RV-PA connection approach can provide an acceptable outcome. To select the most proper surgical strategy, we recommend thorough evaluation of cardiac anomalies such as RVOT and PA morphologies and consideration of the patient's condition.

The shear behavior at the particle/surface interface such as rock joint can determine the mechanical behavior of whole structure. Therefore, a fundamental understanding of the mechanisms governing its behavior and accurately estimation of the interface strength is essential. In this paper, PFC, a numerical analysis program of discrete element method was used to investigate the effects of the surface roughness on interface strength. The surface roughness was characterized by smooth, intermediate, and rough surface, respectively. In order to investigate the effects of particle shape and crushing on particle/surface interface behavior, one ball, clump, and cluster models were created and their results were compared. The shape of particle was characterized by circle, triangle, square, and rectangle, respectively. The results showed that as the surface roughness increases, interface strength and friction angle increase and the void ratio increases. The one ball model with smooth surface shows lower interface strength and friction angle than the clump model with irregular surface. In addition, a cluster model has less interface strength and friction angle than the clump model. The failure envelope of the cluster model shows non-linear characteristic. From these findings, it is verified that the surface roughness and particle shape effect on the particle/surface interface shear behavior.

This study investigated the occurrences, causes, and mitigation of the recent ground subsidence and underground cavity generation events in Korea. Two main causes of ground subsidence are (1) the soil erosion by seepage during tunneling and earth excavation and (2) the damage of underground pipes. The main cause of the soil erosion during tunneling was the uncontrolled groundwater flow. Especially, when excavating soft grounds using a tunnel boring machine (TBM), the ground near TBM operation halt points were found to be the most vulnerable to failure. The damage of underground pipes was mainly caused by poor construction, material deterioration, and differential settlement in soft soils. The ground subsidence during tunneling and earth excavation can be managed by monitoring the outflow of groundwater and eroded soils in construction sites. It is expected that the ground subsidence by the underground pipe damage can be managed or mitigated by life cycle analysis and maintenance of the buried pipes, and by controlling the earth pressure distribution or increasing the bearing capacity at the upper ground of the buried pipes.
