In this paper, some dominant aeroacoustic characteristics of fans used in appliances are reviewed. The numerical attempts to analyze tile aeroacoustic noise of fans are briefly reviewed for various fans. Axial fans for refrigerator, cross flow fans fer air-conditioner, sirocco fans and turbo fans are anal: zed. The unsteady flow field, which is essential data for aeroacoustic analysis, is calculated by commercial CFD code. Acoustic pressure is calculated by Ffowcs Williams and Hawkings equation and Lowson's equation. During the analysis, dominant noise sources are identified.
Five-path ultrasonic flowmeters (200 and 300 mm diameters) were tested to obtain it's characteristics in a water flow standard system. A five-path ultrasonic flowmeter was installed after various pipe fittings (elbow, valve, tee) or a pump. The distance between flow disturbance source and a flowmeter was main experimental parameter. Without a flow conditioner, a five-path ultrasonic flowmeter shows good characteristics as the distance between flow disturbance source and a flowmeter is longer than 10 diameter of a flowmeter.
The aerodynamic performance of an indoor room air-conditioner using a cross-flow fan is strongly influenced by the various design factors of a rear-guider and a stabilizer. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of a rear-guider and a stabilizer on the aerodynamic performance in the maximum flowrate range of a cross-flow fan. The design factors considered in this study are a rear-guider clearance, a stabilizer cutoff clearance, and a stabilizer setup angle, respectively. Aerodynamic performances including maximum flowrate and power show the biggest magnitude distribution in the case of $45^{\circ}$, the stabilizer setup angle as well as nearly similar magnitude distribution regardless of the stabilizer cutoff clearances. Moreover, the more a rear-guider clearance increases, the more the magnitude of maximum flowrate and power increases.
In this study, performance, flow characteristics and noise of a cross-flow-fan system, used in indoor unit of the split-type air conditioner, were predicted by computational simulation. Triangular elements were used to mesh the calculation domain and quadrilateral elements were attached to the blade surfaces and walls to enhance the simulation quality. The unsteady incompressible Wavier-Stokes equations were solved using a sliding mesh technique on the interface between rotating fan region and the outside. Two stripes of velocity stream inside the cross-flow-fan were shown - the one was due to the eccentric vortex and the other was due to the normal entrance flow. As the flow rate increased, the center of the eccentric vortex moved toward the inner blade tip and rear-guide, and the exiting flow still had velocity variation along the stabilizer, which can increase the noise level. The acoustic pressure was calculated by using Lowson's equation. From the calculated acoustic pressure, it was found that the trailing edge is a dominant of acoustic generation.
Aerodynamic optimization of an automotive air-conditioning blower is a hard task because of the highly complex flow phenomena related to three-dimensional flow separations and the unsteady nature caused by the interaction between primary and secondary air flows throughout the fan. In this paper, an aerodynamic study on a forward-curved centrifugal fan has been carried out Firstly we obtained the fan performance curves versus flow rates showing its unstable nature in the surging operation range. Secondly aerodynamic characterizations were carried out by investigating the velocity and pressure fields in the casing flow passage using a 5-hole pilot probe, at different operating conditions. Surface flow pattern near the cut-off area exhibits similar flow behavior above the best efficiency operating point, although the pressure level increases substantially with the Increase of flow rate. Vorticity in the casing passage flow occurs in all (low rates, downstream from the r-Z plane $\theta$=120 deg., where the position of its core changes with the circumferential location. Although complex, the general flow behavior were common, giving insight in its main aerodynamic features.
A cross-flow fan consists of an impeller, a stabilizer and a rearguider. When it applied for an air conditioner, an evaporator should be added. It relatively makes high dynamic pressure at low speed because a working fluid passes through an impeller blade twice and blades have a forward curved shape. Therefore, the performance of a cross-flow fan is influenced 25% by the impeller, 60% by the rearguider and the stabilizer, 15% by the heat exchanger. At the low flow rate, there are a rapid pressure head reduction, a noise increase and an unsteady flow against a stabilizer and a rearguider. Moreover, the reciprocal relation between the impeller and the flow passage is the important factor for performance improvement of the cross-flow tan because each parameter is independent. The performance characteristics in the cross-flow fan are graphically depicted with various impeller outlet angles and rearguiders.
A cross-flow fan is strongly influenced by the various design factors of a rear-guider and a stabilizer. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effects of a rear-guider and a stabilizer on the surface pressure of a rear-guider in an indoor room air-conditioner using a cross-flow fan. The design factors considered in this paper are a rear-guider clearance, a stabilizer clearance, and a stabilizer setup angle, respectively. The operating condition of a cross-flow fan was controlled by changing the static pressure and flowrate using a fan tester. All surface pressures of a rear-guider are differently distributed according to the stabilizer setup angle, and show a zero value in the flow coefficient, ${\Phi}{\fallingdotseq}0.5$ only of a stabilizer setup angle, $45^{\circ}$. Especially, they show a big negative value in the expansion angle larger than $34^{\circ}$ regardless of a rear-guider clearance, a stabilizer clearance, and a stabilizer setup angle. On the other hand, surface pressures for various stabilizer cutoff clearances are better than those for various rear-guider clearances.
A gas-fired 4RT absorption heat pump was designed as an air-conditioner for domestic use during the summer. The absorption heat pump is air-cooled. double-effect, $LiBr-H_{2}O$ system with parallel flow type. The performance of the absorption heat pump in the cooling mode of operation was investigated through cycle modeling and simulation to obtain the system characteristics with parameter changes. System parameters considered in this analysis were the inlet temperature of cooling air to the absorber, the working solution concentrations, the ratio of the amount of the weak solution from the absorber, and the LTD's of each heat exchange component. The optimum designs and operating conditions were determined based on the operating constraints and the coefficient of performance.
The operational conditions such as cooling tower water pump flow rate, cooling tower fan flow rate, and chiller capacity in heat source equipment, and supply air temperature and chilled water temperature in air conditioner are considered to study the effects on energy consumption for central cooling system by using TRNSYS program. As a result, the optimal values of supply air temperature and chilled water temperature for minimal total energy consumption are 12℃ and 8℃. And if maximum values of cooling tower water pump and fan flow rate is decreased from 100% to 40%, energy consumptions are increased 170MJ/day and 63.2MJ/day, respectively.
Differential pressure Venturi cone flowmeter is an advanced flowmeter which has many advantages such as wide range of measurement, high accuracy, excellent flow turndown ratio, low headless, and short installation pipe length requirement, etc. Like other differential pressure flowmeter, Venturi cone flowmeter uses the law of energy conservation, but its shape and position make it perform better than others. The cone acts as its own flow conditioner and mixer, fully conditioning and mixing the flow prior to measurement. For the analysis, we use Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations and $k-{\omega}$ turbulence model. The equations are fully trans-formed in the computational coordinates, the pressure-velocity coupling is made through SIMPLER algorithm, and the equations are discretized using analytic solutions of the linearized equations(Finite Analytic Method). At the end of the paper, using the result of analysis, We propose a new shape of cone with the hope of drag reduction and high performance.
