In order to better understand the characteristics of the flow field around the submerged hydrofoil of finite span with high speed and shallow submergence. a numerical code which can solve the flow around a fast lifting body under the free surface was developed and used to obtain various interesting features of the flow. The code was based on the panel method of Hess( 1972), and the free surface condition was linearized to conform with the assumption of the high Froude number. It is shown that the effect of the change of submerged depth. angle of attack and aspect ratio upon the sectional lift coefficient is rather significant for the case of the chosen example wing, which has the rectangular planform. Since Lee(2002)'s theoretical results were for the wing of elliptical planform, the direct comparison of the two results was not possible. It seems that more computational results are in need to compare the theoretical and the numerical prediction in detail.
In these ten years, the cavitation and erosion phenomena in the rudder have been increased for high-speed container ships. The cavitation in the rudder blades which is injurious to rudder efficiency is mainly caused by the main flow with a large angle of attack induced by propellers, and the erosion which occurs as a result of repeated blows by shock wave that cavitation collapse may produce was observed in the gap legion of the rudder. However, gap cavitation is not prone to occur in model experiments because of low Reynolds number. So, the viscous effect should be considered for solving the flow of the narrow gap. In order to predict the cavitation phenomena and to improve the performance of the rudder, the analysis of the viscous flow in the rudder gap is positively necessary. In this study, numerical calculation for the solution of the RANS equation is applied to the two-dimensional flow around the rudder gap including horn part and pintle part. The velocity and pressure field are numerically acquired according to Reynolds number and the case that the round bar is installed in the gap is analyzed. For reduced the acceleration that pressure drop can be highly restrained numerically and in model experiment, the cavitation bubbles can be reduced.
The purpose in having a control surface on a ship is to control the motion of the ship. The control surface may be composed entirely of a single movable surface or of a combination of fixed and movable portion A control surface has one sole function to perform in meeting its purpose, and that is to develop a control force in consequence of its orientation and movement relative to the water. The forces and moments generated as a result of this rotation and angle of attack then determine the maneuvering characteristics of the ship. In this paper the study of flapped rudder's 2-dimensional section was accomplished. Model tests had been carried out with different angles of attack of a main foil and flap's deflection angles to predict the performance of the flapped rudder and the 2 frame particle tracking method had been used to obtain the velocity distribution in the flow field $Re=2.8\times10^4$ had been used during the whole experiments and measured results had been compared with each other.

The purpose in having a control surface on ships is to control the motion of the ship. The control surface may be composed entirely of a single movable surface or of a combination of fixed and movable portions. A control surface has one sole function to perform in meeting its purpose, and that is to develop a control force in consequence of its orientation and movement relative to the water. The forces and moments generated as a result of this rotation and angle of attack then determine the manoeuvring characteristics of the ship. In this paper, two-dimensional flow characteristics of a flapped rudder and a water-blowing control rudder were accomplished respectively by PIV method in a circulating water channel. Model test has been carried out with different angles of attack of main foil (NACA 0012) and flap's deflection angles to predict the performance of the flapped rudder and the water-blowing control rudder. The 2-frame particle tracking method has been used to obtain the velocity distribution in the flow field. $Re{\fallingdotseq}3.0{\times}10^4$ has been used during the whole experiments and measured results have been compared with each other.
The local heat transfer and pressure drops of developed turbulent flows in the convergent channels with square cross-sectional areas along the streamwise distance have been investigated experimentally. Four different parallel angled ribs (a = $30^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$, and $90^{\circ}$) are placed to the one sided wall only, respectively. The ribbed walls are manufactured with a fixed rib height (e)=10 mm and the ratio of rib spacing (p) to height (e) = 10. The measurement was run within the range of Reynolds numbers from 22,000 to 79,000. The result shows that the increases in the Nusselt numbers for the flow attack angles can be seen in the order of $30^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$ and $90^{\circ}$.

Highly sweep leading edge extensions(LEX) applied to delta wings have greatly improved the subsonic maneuverability of contemporary fighters. In this study, systematic approach by PIV experimental method within a circulating water channel was adopted to study the fundamental characteristics of induced vortex generation, development and its breakdown appearing on a delta wing model with or without LEX in terms of four angles of attack($15^{\circ},\;20^{\circ},\;25^{\circ},\;30^{\circ}$) and six measuring sections of chord length($30{\%},\;40{\%},\;50{\%},\;60{\%},\;70{\%},\;80{\%}$). Sideslip effect in case of the LEX was also studied for two sideslip(yaw) angles($5^{\circ},\;10^{\circ}$) at one angle of attack(20). Distribution of time-averaged velocity vectors and vorticity over the delta wing model were compared along the chord length direction. Quantitative comparison of the maximum vorticity featuring the induced pressure distribution were also conducted to clarify the significance of the LEX existence. Animation presentation in velocity distribution was also implemented to reveal the effect of LEX with wing vortex interaction.

Experimental and numerical investigations were conducted to identify the wake characteristics downstream of two vane-type vortex generators over laminar flat plate boundary layer. Experimental study was carried out by using the stereoscopic particle image velocimetry. To describe the flow field around the vortex generator in detail, numerical study was performed. We considered two different planform shapes of vortex generator: triangular and rectangular shape. The height of the generator was chosen to be about the boundary layer thickness at the position of its installation. Two different lengths of the generator were chosen: two and five times the height. Wake measurements were carried out at three angles of attack for each configuration. Wake characteristics for each case such as overall vortical structure, vorticity distribution, and location of vortex center with downstream distance were obtained from the PIV data. Wake characteristics, as expected, were found to vary strongly with the geometry and angle of attack so that no general tendency could be deduced. Causes of this irregular tendency were explained by using the results of the numerical simulation.
This work numerically investigates the effects of Reynolds number ReD (= 100 - 150), cross-sectional aspect ratio AR = ( 0.25 -1.0), and attack angle α (= 0° - 90°) on the forces, Strouhal number, and wake of an elliptical cylinder, where ReD is based on the freestream velocity and cylinder cross-section height normal to the freestream flow, AR is the ratio of the minor axis to the major axis of the elliptical cylinder, and α is the angle between the cylinder major axis and the incoming flow. At ReD = 100, two distinct wake structures are identified, namely 'Steady wake' (pattern I) and 'Karman wake followed by a steady wake (pattern II)' when AR and α are varied in the ranges specified. When ReD is increased to 150, an additional wake pattern, 'Karman wake followed by secondary wake (pattern III)' materializes. Pattern I is characterized by two steady bubbles forming behind the cylinder. Pattern II features Karman vortex street immediately behind the cylinder, with the vortex street transmuting to two steady shear layers downstream. Inflection angle αi = 32°, 37.5° and 45° are identified for AR = 0.25, 0.5 and 0.75, respectively, where the wake asymmetry is the greatest. The αi effectively distinguishes the dependence on α and AR of force and vortex shedding frequency at either ReD. In Pattern III, the Karman street forming behind the cylinder is modified to a secondary vortex street. At a given AR and α, ReD = 150 renders higher fluctuating lift and Strouhal number than ReD = 100.
In modem wind power system of large capacity above 1MW, horizontal axis wind turbine(HAWT) is a common type. And, the optimum design of wind turbine to guarantee excellent power performance and its reliability in structure and longevity is a key technology in wind Industry. In this study, mathematical expressions based upon the conventional BEMT(blade element momentum theory) applying to basic 1MW wind turbine blade configuration design. Power coefficient and related flow parameters, such as Prandtl's tip loss coefficient, tangential and axial flow induction factors of the wind turbine analyzed systematically. X-FOIL was used to acquire lift and drag coefficients of the 2-D airfoils and we use Viterna-Corrigan formula to interpolate the aerodynamic characteristics in post-stall region. In order to predict the performance characteristics of the blade, a performance analysis carried out by BEMT method. As a results, axial and tangential flow factors, angle of attack, power coefficient investigated in this study.
The 2nd order response surface method (RSM) has been carried out to get optimum thermal design for enhanced heat transfer on square channel with bleed holes. The RSM was used as an optimization technique with Reynolds-averaged navier-stokes equation. Turbulence model for heat transfer analysis used RNG k-epsilon model. The wall function used enhanced wall function. Numerical local heat transfer coefficients were similar to the experimental tendency. Two design variables such as attack angle of rib (${\alpha}$), rib pitch-to-rib height ratio (p/e) were chosen. Operation condition considered bleeding ratio per bleed hole ($BR_{hole}$). A response surface were constructed by the design variables and operation condition. As a result, adjusted $R^2$ was more than 0.9. Optimization results of various objective function were similar to heat transfer in channel with and without bleed flow. But friction factor was lower than channel without bleed flow.
