  • In this paper, the effect of surface tension, wettability, flow rate of contaminants with varying surfactant content and frequency of applied voltage on the tracking breakdown of epoxy insulating materials were investigated. As the flow rate of contaminant is increased, the surface resistivity is decreased, and the leakage current is increased, the time to tracking breakdown is decreased. It is found that time to tracking breakdown depends on the surface tension of contaminant, that is difference of wettability And as the frequency of applied voltage is increased, time to tracking breakdown decreased.

  • Some polymer materials including epoxy resin are being instead of porcelain for outdoor insulating materials such as insulators bushings cable terminators and surge arrester housing. And the largest problem to be overcomed is the tracking and erosion of the outdoor polymer material brought about by dry band arcing during prolonged exposure to contaminations. In this paper the effect of surface tension wettability flow rate of contaminants with varying surfactant content and frequency of applied voltage on the tracking breakdown of epoxy insulating materials were investigated. As the flow rate of contaminant is increased the surface resistivity is decreased and the leakage current is increased the time to tracking breakdown is decreased. It is found that time to tracking breakdown depends on the surface tension of contaminant that is difference of wettability. And as the frequency of applied voltage is increased time to tracking breakdown decreased.

  • In this study, the AZO thin films were prepared as a function of oxygen gas flow ratio at room temperature by FTS(Facing Targets Sputtering) apparatus using Zn:Al(metal)-Zn:Al(metal) or Zn(metal)-ZnO:Al(ceramic). The film thickness, crystalline and electric properties of AZO thin film was evaluated by $\alpha$-step, XRD and 4-point probe. In the results, the resistivity of AZO thin film was shown the lowest value about 8${\times}$10$^{-2}$ $\Omega$-cm(Zn:Al-Zn:Al), 3${\times}$10$^{-1}$ $\Omega$-cm(Zn-ZnO:Al) at the oxygen gas flow ratio 0.3. And the AZO thin film has good crystalline at oxygen gas flow ration 0.4, using Zn:Al-Zn:Al targets.

  • In this study, the acoustic properties of polyester sound absorbing materials with three different bulk densities were investigated by calculating and measuring the acoustic parameters in terms of characteristic impedance, propagation constant, and absorption coefficient. For the calculations, Delany and Bazley's empirical equation was used together with the experimentally obtained specific flow resistivities under steady flow conditions. For the experimental measurements, the well-known two-thickness method was accessed. The experimentally measured values of characteristic impedance and propagation constant were generally agreed well with the corresponding calculated values. Based on the comparisons between the calculations and measurements, it was found that the magnitude of the absorption coefficient was closely related to the characteristic impedance and the real part of the propagation constant. Especially, the maximum magnitude of the absorption coefficient was depended upon the imaginary part of the propagation constant indicating the phase change of the propagation constant.

  • Recently it was reported that the life of Al Sacrifical anode is being used in port piers has been significantly shortened compared with the original design life (e.g. average life shortened from 20 years to 13-15 year) Those factors involving these problems mentioned above were seemed to be a quality of anode material and diverse environmental factors such as pH flow rate temperature Dissolved oxygen Chemical oxygen demand and resistivity etcm In this study flow rate and contamination degree(pH) of sea water affecting to sacrificial anode life hve been investigated in terms of electrochemical characteristics of Al alloy sacrificial anode It was known that the lifetime of Al alloy anode was shortened not only by increasing of self-corrosion quantity by varying flow rate of sea water but also by increasing corrosion current density due to the potential difference increment between Al anode and steel structure cathode by varying contamination degree of sea water. Especially when anode current density is from 1mA/cm2 to 3mA/cm2 and flow rate of sea water is under 2m/s anode current efficiency is 90% above However flow rate is over 2m/s anode current efficiency fell down sharply due to erosion corrosion as well as galvanic corrosion.

  • The structural, optical, and electrical properties of Ga-doped ZnO (GZO) thin films on glass substrates grown by radio-frequency(RF) magnetron sputtering were investigated. The flow ratio of Ar was varied as a deposition parameter for growing high-quality GZO thin films. The structural properties and surface morphologies of GZO were characterized by the X-ray diffraction. To analyze the optical properties of GZO, the optical absorbance was measured in the wavelength range of 300-1100 nm by using UV-VIS spectrophotometer. The optical transmittance, absorption coefficient, and optical bandgap energy of GZO thin films were calculated from the measured data. The crystallinity of GZO thin films is improved and the bandgap energy increases from 3.08 to 3.23eV with the increasing Ar flow ratio from 10 to 100 sccm. The average transmittance of the films is over 88% in the visible range. The lowest resistivity of the GZO is $6.215{\times}10^{-4}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ and the hall mobility increases with the increasing Ar flow ratio. We can optimize the characteristics of GZO as a transparent electrode for thin film solar cells by controlling Ar flow ratio during deposition process.

  • To investigate the feasibility of a new concept of storing Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) in a lined hard rock cavern, and to develop essential technologies for constructing underground LNG storage facilities, a small pilot plant storing liquid nitrogen (LN2) has been constructed at the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM). The LN2 stored in the cavern will subject the host rock around the cavern to very low temperatures, which is expected to cause the development of an ice ring and the change of ground condition around the storage cavern. To investigate and monitor changes in ground conditions at this pilot plant site, geophysical, hydrogeological, and rock mechanical investigations were carried out. In particular, geophysical methods including borehole radar and three-dimensional (3D) resistivity surveys were used to identify and monitor the development of an ice ring, and other possible changes in ground conditions resulting from the very low temperature of LN2 in the storage tank. We acquired 3D resistivity data before and after storing the LN2, and the results were compared. From the 3D images obtained during the three phases of the resistivity monitoring survey, we delineated zones of distinct resistivity changes that are closely related to the storage of LN2. In these results, we observed a decrease in resistivity at the eastern part of the storage cavern. Comparing the hydrogeological data and Joint patterns around the storage cavern, we interpret this change in resistivity to result from changes in the groundwater flow pattern. Freezing of the host rock by the very low temperature of LN2 causes a drastic change in the hydrogeological conditions and groundwater flow patterns in this pilot plant.

  • Al oped zinc oxide (AZO) films were prepared by Facing Targets Sputtering (FTS) system for TCO applications. The electrical, optical and structural properties of AZO thin films have been investigated with input current, oxygen gas flow ratio and substrate temperature. Deposition was carried out at room temperature and $200^{\circ}C$. Working gas pressures were fixed at 1mTorr. As a result, AZO thin film deposited with an optical transmittance over 80 % and a resistivity about $10^{-4}{Omega}{\cdot}cm$.

  • Magnetic reconnect ion is studied numerically by means of a two dimensional MHD code. The initial magnetic field configuration is the two-dimensional dipole field, and the simulation model involves magnetic reconnect ion driven by the magnetized plasma flow. Strong plasma jetting, plasmoid formation and its fast ejection are observed in the downstream region. The dependence of reconnection rate on the incoming energy flux is found to be very sensitive, while the magnitude of the resistivity does not influence much on the reconnection rate. The simulation results are discussed in the context of the geomagnetic substorm.

  • Plasma actuator makes parallel flow on the wall surface by the interaction between plasma and neutral air particles. Dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma actuator is widely studied as one type of plasma actuators, which consists of one electrode exposed to the environmental gas and the other encapsulated by a dielectric material. This paper is experimentally focused on the performance of DBD plasma actuator mounted on a flat plate, which depends on kinds of the electrode materials, their thicknesses and the supplied voltage including its frequency. We measured the velocity magnitudes of the induced flow by a stagnation probe as a performance parameter of the plasma actuators. The velocity profiles of the flow induced by the plasma actuators are similar in all measurement cases. The magnitude of the induced velocity is strongly influenced by the thickness of the electrodes and the frequency of the input voltage. The performance of DBD plasma actuators is related to the electric properties of the electrode materials such as the ionization energy and the electrical resistivity.
