A rapid expansion of the moist air or stream through transonic nozzle often leads to not-equilibrium condensation shock, causing a considerable amount of energy loss to the entire flow field. Depending on amount of heat released, condensation shock wave occurs in the nozzle and interacts with the boundary layer flow. In the current study, a passive control technique using a porous wall with a plenum cavity underneath is applied for purpose of alleviation the condensation shock wave in a transonic nozzle. A droplet growth equation is incorporated into two-dimensional wavier-Stokes equation systems. Computations are carried out using a third-order MUSCL type TVD finite-difference scheme with a second-order fractional time step. An experiment using an indraft transonic wind tunnel is made to validate the present computational results. The results obtained show that the magnitude of condensation shock wave is reduced by the current passive control method.
By using unique experimental techniques and careful construction of the experimental apparatus, the characteristics of the local heat transfer were investigated using the condensing R134a two-phase flow, in horizontal single mini-channels. The circular channels ($D_h=0.493$, 0.691, and 1.067 mm) and rectangular channels ($D_h=0.494$, 0.658, and 0.972 mm) were tested and compared. Tests were performed for a mass flux of 100, 200, 400, and 600 $kg/m^2s$, a heat flux of 5 to 20 $kW/m^2$, and a saturation temperature of $40^{\circ}C$. In this study, effect of heat flux, mass flux, vapor qualities, hydraulic diameter, and channel geometry on flow condensation were investigated and the experimental local condensation heat transfer coefficients are shown. The experimental data of condensation Nusselt number are compared with existing correlations.

With traditional experimental methods such as the secondary fluid (e.g., water) calorimetric method, it is very difficult to accurately test the local condensation heat transfer inside mini-channels. Hence, there are large discrepancies between the results of previous studies. The experimental methods as well as unidentified sources of uncertainties could be reasons for such discrepancies. In this study, innovative experimental techniques were developed to measure the in-tube condensation heat transfer coefficient. With these techniques, very low heat dissipation rates such as several watts from the mini-channel could be estimated and low mass flow rates below the 0.1 ㎏/h could be measured with reasonable uncertainties. To the authors' knowledge, these techniques provide a unique experimental apparatus for measuring the condensation heat transfer coefficients inside the sub-millimeter hydraulic diameter single channels.
The numerical simulations were conducted to investigate the thermal-fluid phenomena occurred inside the experimental apparatus during a PCCS, used to remove heat released in accidents from a containment of light water nuclear power plant, operation. Numerical simulations of the flow and heat transfer caused by wall condensation inside the containment simulation vessel (CSV), which equipped with 18 vertical heat exchanger tubes, were conducted using the commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software ANSYS-CFX. Shear stress transport (SST) and the wall condensation model were used for turbulence closure and wall condensation, respectively. The simulation using the actual size of the apparatus. However, rather than simulating the whole experimental apparatus in consideration of the experimental cases, calculation resources, and calculation time, the simulation model was prepared only in CSV. Selective simulation was conducted to verify the effects of non-condensable gas(NC gas) concentration, CSV internal pressure, and wall sub-cooling conditions. First, as a result of the internal flow of CSV, it was observed that downward flow due to condensation occurred surface of the vertical tube and upward flow occurred in the distant place. Natural convection occurred actively around the heat exchanger tube. Due to this rising and falling internal flow, natural circulation occurred actively around the heat exchanger tubes. Next, in order to check the performance of built-in condensation model using according to the non-condensable gas concentration, CSV internal flow and wall sub-cooling, the heat flux values were compared with the experimental results. On average, the results were underestimated with and error of about 25%. In addition, the influence of CSV internal pressure and wall sub-cooling was small, but when the condensate was highly generated due to the low non-condensable gas concentration, the error was large compared to the experimental values. This is considered to be due to the nature of the condensation model of the CFX code. However, in spite of the limitations of CFD, it is valid to use the built-in condensation model of CFD for PCCS performance prediction from a conservative perspective.
Prandtl-Meyer expansion flow with homogeneous condensation is investigated experimentally and by numerical computations. The steady and unsteady periodic behaviors of the diabatic shock wave due to the latent heat released by condensation are considered with a view of technical application to the condensing flow through steam turbine blade passages. A passive control method using a porous wall and cavity underneath is applied to control the diabatic shock wave. Two-dimensional, compressible Navier-Stokes with the nucleation rate equation are numerically solved using a third-order TVD (Total Variation Diminishing) finite difference scheme. The computational results reproduce the measured static pressure distributions in passive and no passive Prandtl-Meyer expansion flows with condensation. From both the experimental and computational results, it is found that the magnitude of steady diabatic shock wave can be considerably reduced by the present passive control method. For no passive control, it is found that the diabatic shock wave due to the heat released by condensation oscillates periodically with a frequency of 2.40㎑. This unsteady periodic motion of the diabatic shock wave can be completely suppressed using the present passive control method.
The characteristics of Prand시-Meyer expansion of supersonic flow with condensation along a wavy wall in a channel are investigated by means of experiments and numerical analyses. Experiments are carried out for the case of moist air flow in an intermittent indraft supersonic wind tunnel. The flow fields are visualized by a Schlieren system and the distributions of static pressure along the upper wavy wall are measured by a scanning valve system with pressure transducers. In numerical analyses, the distributions of streamlines, Mach lines, iso-pressure lines, and iso-mass fractions of liquid are obtained by the two-dimensional direct marching method of characteristics. The effects of stagnation temperature, absolute humidity, and attack angle of the upper wavy wall on the generation and the locations of generation and reflection of an oblique shock wave are clarified. Futhermore, it is confirmed that the wavy wall plays an important role in the generation of an oblique shock wave and that the effect of condensation on the flow fields is apparent.

In the forming of an integrated system of radiant floor cooling and dehumidifying, chilled coil can be used for cooling and dehumidification. Therefore, it is necessary to find the efficient control method which can eliminates latent load efficiently. This study has been conducted to find this method by dividing the dehumidification system into 3 types according to the control variables and analyzing characteristics of each system. To prevent the floor surface condensation, the amount of condensation can be manipulated by water temperatures, water flow rates in chilled coil, and air flow rates passing by it. So dehumidification system control can be divided into constant air flow control and variable air flow control. Regarding dehumidification control, variable air flow control, which eliminates latent load rather than sensible load, is preferable to constant flow control.

The characteristics Prandt1-Meyer expansion of supersonic flow with condensation through a wavy wall in a channel are investigated by experiment and numerical direct marching method of characteristics. In the present study, for the case of moist air flow in the type of indraft supersonic wind tunnel, the dependency of location of formation and reflection of the oblique shock wave generated by the wavy wall and the distribution of flow properties, on the specific humidity and temperature at the entrance of wavy wall and the attack angle of the wavy wall to the main stream is clarified by schlieren photograph, distribution of static pressure and Mach number, and plots of numerical results. Also, we confirm that the wavy wall plays an important key role in the formation of oblique shock wave, and that the effect of condensation on the flow field appears apparently.

The time-dependent behavior of unsteady condensation of moist air through the Ludwieg tube is investigated by using a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) work. The two-dimensional, compressible, Navier-Stokes equations, fully coupled with the condensate droplet growth equations, are numerically solved by a third-order MUSCL type TVD finite-difference scheme, with a second-order fractional time step. Baldwin-Lomax turbulence model is employed to close the governing equations. The predicted results are compared with the previous experiments using the Ludwieg tube with a diaphragm downstream. The present computations represent the experimental flows well. The time-dependent unsteady condensation characteristics are discussed based upon the present predicted results. The results obtained clearly show that for an initial relative humidity below 30% there is no periodic oscillation of the condensation shock wave, but for an initial relative humidity over 40% the periodic excursions of the condensation shock occurs in the Ludwieg tube, and the frequency increases with the initial relative humidity. It is also found that total pressure loss due to unsteady condensation in the Ludwieg tube should not be ignored even for a very low initial relative humidity and it results from the periodic excursions of the condensation shock wave.
An analytical model that includes the steam condensation effect has been derived and a parametric study has been performed. In addition, a series of experiments were performed and a total of 34 experimental data for the onset of CCFL in nearly horizontal countercurrent two-phase How have been obtained for various flow rates of water. Comparisons of the present CCFL data with slug formation models show that the agreement between the present as well as the existing model and the data is about the same. However, the deviation between the Taitel and Dukler's model predictions and the data is the largest when if j$_{f}$<0.04 m/s. A parametric study of the effect of the steam condensation using the present model shows that, when all local conditions are similar, the model predicted local gas velocities that cause the onset of flooding are slightly lower when condensation occurred. Based on the visual observation and the evaluation of the present work, it has been concluded that the criterion derived for the onset of slug flow can be directly used to predict the onset of inner flooding in nearly horizontal two-phase flow within the experimental ranges of the present work.
