This paper aims to clarify physical characteristic of empty house and vacant floor in historic district on Cheongju. First, most empty houses are the timbered houses of 1 story, and it will be built before the 1969. And the building of a vacant floor has a common non-residential buildings of 4 stories, and there are many buildings of RC structure built in the 1980s. Second, when the situation of an empty house and a vacant floor was seen, there was most the second floor only by the number of room, but when seen from the ratio of the whole number of rooms, there were most the third floor and the fourth floor. Third, when the situation of a vacant floor and a vacant room was seen from use, there were most store, shop and office. Relevance with this as close as reduction of the population in the center of Cheongju is seen. Moreover, the grope of a method which can utilize this is required.

According to the advanced study, Increase of ceiling air space could cause increase of floor impact sound by air-spring effect. So in this research, we studied the increase of floor impact sound caused by ceiling air space in apartment buildings. At first, we evaluated the change of floor impact noise in the condition of with or without ceiling air-space. And then we installed perforated ceiling systems and glass wool at ceiling area. we expected that perforated ceiling systems could prevent air-spring effect in ceiling space. As a result, ceiling air space caused increasement of floor heavy impact noise about 2~4dB. But perforated ceiling & sound-absorbing materials system could give us reduction of heavy floor impact noise about 3dB. So this systems could be a good alternative to obey national regulations, because it can reduce heavy impact noise additional to floating floor systems.
To reduce interior noise of running vehicles, a floating floor construction has been widely used in recent railway industry. Among the key factors of the floating floor design, dynamic stiffness is of most important in acoustical point of view. Sometimes hard rubber type supports have often been selected due to the other design constraints such as heavy load condition, durability of rubber element and its cost etc., even though it seems like the softer support, the better isolation of noise and vibration. In this paper two representative floor supports have been considered to evaluate their effectiveness in interior noise contribution: one is a soft rubber and another is a relatively hard one. From the measured dynamic stiffness of the specimens, equivalent stiffness of actual floating floor has been derived to use in the analytical models. Calculated air-borne and structure-borne noise insulation properties of the floating floors have been compared with experiments in prototype car. In full car model interior noise levels of running vehicles have been predicted to quantify the effectiveness of the two different floating support materials and verified through the measured inside noise levels of actual train as well. By comparison with difference of running noise levels two materials for floor support can be investigated quantitatively so that it could be applied in floating floor design.
In this paper, quasi-static tests were carried out on three prefabricated reinforced concrete column-steel beam (RCS) sub-assemblages with floor slabs and one comparison specimen without floor slab. The effects of axial compression and floor slab on the seismic performance were studied, and finite element simulations were conducted using ABAQUS. The results showed that the failure of prefabricated RCS sub-assemblages with floor occurred as a joint beam and column failure mode, while failure of sub-assemblages without floor occurred due to beam plastic hinge formation. Compared to the prefabricated RCS sub-assemblages without floor slab, the overall stiffness of the sub-assemblages with floor slab was between 19.2% and 45.4% higher, and the maximum load bearing capacity increased by 26.8%. However, the equivalent viscosity coefficient was essentially unchanged. When the axial compression ratio increased from 0.24 to 0.36, the hysteretic loops of the sub-assemblages with floor became fuller, and the load bearing capacity, ductility, and energy dissipation capacity increased by 12.1%, 12.9% and 8.9%, respectively. Also, the initial stiffness increased by 10.2%, but the stiffness degradation accelerated. The proportion of column drift caused by beam end plastic bending and column end bending changed from 35% and 46% to 47% and 36%, respectively. Comparative finite element analyses indicated that the numerical simulation outcomes agreed well with the experimental results.

This paper is on the vibration control of access floor on the frames of reinforced structure. In this study, the horizontal anti-vibration system using precise spring damper was developed and modeling and vibration analysis of the RC structure was performed for the control of horizontal vibration coused by machinery and worker's moving. Experiment was done in three cases, no damper at the RC structures, dampers connecting pedestal to pedestal and pedestal to the structure, for the investigation of the effect of the system on disigned RC structure. For each experiment, the occeleration responses on slab and access floor after giving impact wave and external vibration were measured. It was shown that the magnitude of resonance response of the system with dampers are smaller than without damper and the resonance peak also partly moved to low-frequency range. Furthermore. It was shown that the acceleration components of the system with domoers decreased greatly in high-frequency range and the system was very much effective especially for external vibration. In order to verify the anti-vibration effect of the developed system, the vibration analysis was also done for the system by using the finite element modelling. The analysis results was in good agreement with experimental results. Thus, It is concluded that this study is useful for the design of precise anti-vibration system and micro-vibration control of concrete structures.
The objective of this study is to find out the recent trends of hanok design based on 58 hanoks appeared in architecture magazines in the last 10 years. The cases are analyzed in terms of location, size, building form, spatial organization, material, roof form, and the ceiling form of living room. The consequences of this study is as follows; Most of the recent hanoks are built in rural area (91.4%), which shows the hanok is not accepted as an urban house type. Hanoks tend to be built in 2 stories whose 2nd floor is smaller than the 1st floor. (34.5%) The preferred size is total floor area of $99.2{\sim}165.2m^2$ (62.0%), 3 rooms (46.6%) with a traditional ondol room (60.3%). The buildings with ㄱ-shape (43.1%) and linear-shape (27.6%) are preferred, and the compact plan type similar with apartment house appears (13.8%). In the roof design that greatly influences the appearance of building, the traditional design factors such as half-hipped roof (55.2%), double eaves (27.6%), and eaves curve tend to be sustained. In terms of spatial organization, most of recent hanoks have double-layed plan (74.2%). The living room mostly has separately defined space. (82.8%) The indoor and outdoor tend to be connected by a narrow wooden veranda (39.7%), while some cases don't have any wooden floor space (48.3%). The entrance is adopted as an important spatial element in front part of building (75.9%), and it influences the appearance of building. The living room, the counterpart of the wooden floor hall in traditional hanok, and kitchen tend to be interiorized. In terms of material, the cement roof tile and red clay brick are preferred. Consequently, the walls of recent hanoks have the image of brick structure rather than the wooden frame structure of traditonal hanok.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the efficiency of various structural modeling schemes for evaluating seismic performances and fragility of the reactor containment building (RCB) structure in the advanced power reactor 1400 (APR1400) nuclear power plant (NPP). Four structural modeling schemes, i.e. lumped-mass stick model (LMSM), solid-based finite element model (Solid FEM), multi-layer shell model (MLSM), and beam-truss model (BTM), are developed to simulate the seismic behaviors of the containment structure. A full three-dimensional finite element model (full 3D FEM) is additionally constructed to verify the previous numerical models. A set of input ground motions with response spectra matching to the US NRC 1.60 design spectrum is generated to perform linear and nonlinear time-history analyses. Floor response spectra (FRS) and floor displacements are obtained at the different elevations of the structure since they are critical outputs for evaluating the seismic vulnerability of RCB and secondary components. The results show that the difference in seismic responses between linear and nonlinear analyses gets larger as an earthquake intensity increases. It is observed that the linear analysis underestimates floor displacements while it overestimates floor accelerations. Moreover, a systematic assessment of the capability and efficiency of each structural model is presented thoroughly. MLSM can be an alternative approach to a full 3D FEM, which is complicated in modeling and extremely time-consuming in dynamic analyses. Specifically, BTM is recommended as the optimal model for evaluating the nonlinear seismic performance of NPP structures. Thereafter, linear and nonlinear BTM are employed in a series of time-history analyses to develop fragility curves of RCB for different damage states. It is shown that the linear analysis underestimates the probability of damage of RCB at a given earthquake intensity when compared to the nonlinear analysis. The nonlinear analysis approach is highly suggested for assessing the vulnerability of NPP structures.
This paper presents a case study with a multi-degree-of-freedom (MDOF) system where the Floor Response Spectra (FRS) have been derived from a large ensemble of ground motion accelerograms. The FRS are evaluated by the frequency response function which is calculated numerically. The advantage of this scheme over a repetitive time-history analysis of the entire structure for each accelerogram of the set has been highlighted. The present procedure permits generation of FRS with a specified probability of exceedence.
