This paper presents design and workspace analysis of a Korean home service robot. The robot is designed with specific needs of floor-task applications suitable for Korean life style. Shoulder and waist of the robot are adjusted by sliding mechanism to increase the workspace of the robot arms. Manipulators are designed and built and their workspaces are analyzed. Experimental studies of the robot for cleaning the floor are conducted.

Wax is a protectant for floors that is used widely in Korea and is considered an emission source of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the indoor environment. This study examined the concentration change of indoor VOCs due to waxing and also due to wiping the floor with an oiled dustcloth. VOCs were identified using a cryogenic concentration/thermal desorption system with capillary GC that utilized a liquid nitrogen cryostat and induction heating. The major components emitted from the waxing were nonane, decane, undecane, $C_2$-benzene, and $C_3$-benzene. The concentrations of nonane were 1,276 $\mu\textrm{g}$/㎥ an hour after wax applications, 832 $\mu\textrm{g}$/㎥ after 3 days, and less than 10$\mu\textrm{g}$/㎥) after 15 days. Another emission source of VOCs in indoor was the oiled dustcloth used for cleaning the floor. The oiled dustcloth gave VOCs concentrations three times higher than the normal undusted floor.

This paper presents the development of the remotely operated decontamination systems for use in a highly radioactive zone of the DUPIC Fuel Development facility of the Irradiated Material Examination Facility at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute. The remotely operated decontamination systems were designed to completely eliminate human interaction with hazardous radioactive contaminants. These decontamination systems are mainly classified into three systems depending on the task environment - a fabrication equipment decontamination system, a hot-cell floor decontamination system, and an isolation room floor decontamination system. A decontamination system for contaminated fabrication equipment utilizes dry ice pellet blasting method to decontaminate contaminated surface of the equipment. The decontamination systems for the hot-cell floor and isolation room floor employ a vacuum cleaning method to decontaminate the contaminated floor and collect loose dry spent nuclear fuel debris and other radioactive waste placed on the floor. The human operator from the out-of-cell performs a series of decontamination tasks remotely by manipulating decontamination systems located in-cell via a handcontroller with the aid of vision feedback information. The environmental, functional and mechanical design considerations, control system and capabilities of the remotely operated decontamination systems at a high radioactive environment are also described.
Floor slipperiness is a leading cause in slip and fall accidents which are a major source of occupational injuries in Korea. Researchers have estimated the slip and fall related accidents rank number one or two in number of the injured. The objectives of this study were to find the field contamination effect and improvement countermeasure. Slipping and falling are common accidents in large public facilities, especially facility which vulnerable adults generally use as like hospital. So, we measured the coefficient of friction of several floors on the floor in hospital, under dry and wet using BOT-3000. The results of the coefficient of friction measurements showed that floor type and surface conditions were all significant factors affecting the coefficient of friction. The most surprising finding of this study was that there were significant friction improvement when the floors were properly cleaned with cleaning equipments.

Seismic qualification of the Air Cleaning Units for nuclear power plant Ulchin 5&6 has been performed with the guideline of ASME Section III and IEEE 344 code. By using the structural and geometrical similarity analysis, the three models to be analyzed are condensed into a single model and, at the same time, the excitation forces and other operating loads for each model are encompassed with respect to different loading conditions. As the fundamental frequencies of the structure are found to be less than 33Hz, which is the upper frequency limit of the seismic load, response spectrum analysis using ANSYS is performed in order to combine the modal stresses within the frequency limit. In order to confirm the structural and electric stability of the major components, modal analysis theory is adopted to derive the required response spectrum at the component locations. As the all combined stresses obtained from the above procedures are less than allowable stresses and no mechanical or electrical failures are found from the seismic testing, the authors confirm the safety of the nuclear equipments Air Cleaning Units studied in this paper.

This study was conducted to provide basic knowledges of effective environmental control of patients with allergic rhinitis. From July to October 1995, 58 dust samples Were drawn from the bedrooms of patients with allergic rhinitis who were registerd at an allergy clinic of a hospital. Those samples were examined for the amount of house mite allergens & dusts. The data were analysed by using ANOVA and Pearson correiation coefficients. The results were as follows : 1. As for the amount of house mite allergens in terms of environmental factors, the amount of house mite allergens of using washing water temperature of bedding above than $55^{\circ}C$ was significantly lower than that of below $54^{\circ}C$. Other environmental factors such as type of house, area of bed room floor, bed in bedroom, bedroom cleaning by vacuum cleaner, days after bedding washing, relative humidity of bedroom were relate to the amount of house mite allergens. 2. As for the amount of dusts in terms of environmental factors, the amount of dusts of days of days after bedding washing more than 15 days was significantly lower than thant of less than 15days. Other environmental factors such as type of house, area of bedroom floor, bed in bedroom, bedroom cleaning by vacuum cleaner, was hing water taemperature of bedding, relative humidity of bedroom were not relate to the amount of dusts. 3. There was a significant positive correlation between the amount of house mite allergens and the amount of dusts. It may be conclusively said. the amount of dusts and house mite allergens were closely associated with the washing temperature and days after washing of bedding. Hence. intensive instruction for the methods of bedding washing was needs of the patients with allergic rhinitis.

A new dust cleaning vehicle is needed to remove fine and ultra-fine particulate matter in subway tunnels. Therefore, the recently developed tunnel cleaning vehicle is equipped with an efficient suction system and cyclone-based prefilter to handle ultra-fine particles. To treat various sizes of particulate matter with an underbody suction system, this paper proposes a cyclone-based prefilter in the suction system and validates the dust removal efficiency through Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis using ANSYS FLUENT. Using the created surface and volume mesh, various particle sizes, materials, and fan flow rates, the particles were tracked in the flow with a discrete phase model. As a result, the dust cleaning vehicle at a normal operational speed of 5km/h requires at least a fan flow rate of $1500m^3/min$ and 100mm of suction inlet height from the tunnel track floor. Those suction modules and cyclone-based prefilters in the dust cleaning vehicle reduces the dust accumulation load of the electric precipitator and helps remove the accumulated fine and ultra-fine dust in the subway tunnel.
Jacquard floor covering could be prepared from low-melting/regular sheath-core hybrid polyester, where the fiber is dyed in yarn state. With regard that the expected high shrinkage of the hybrid polyester in water makes problems in yarn dyeing, low-temperature dyeing properties of the hybrid polyester were studied. The rate of shrinkage of low-melting hybrid polyester exceeds 9% in hot water above $90^{\circ}C$, at such condition, cheese yarn dyeing is very difficult. Although disperse dyes exhaust in a relatively high speed on low-melting hybrid polyester, diffusion of these dyes to the core regular polyester was extremely slow under $90^{\circ}C$. Foron Blue E-BL 150, an anthraquinone E-type disperse dye, showed appreciable diffusion after 48hrs dyeing at $90^{\circ}C$. The fastness to rubbing and drycleaning were improved by one grade after reduction cleaning.
