The laboratory and green house studies evaluated the effect of three different environmental factors on the seed germination, seedling emergence and survival of four major weed species in coconut plantations, Mimosa pudica, Ureana lobata, Panicum maximum and Pennisetum polystachyon. Germination percentage of all the weed species was significantly reduced with increasing soil moisture stress, no germination was observed at -0.9 MPa. Germination of both grass seeds ranged from 8% to 25% and 10% to 45% as moisture stress decreased from -0.4 MPa to 0 MPa, respectively. In contrast, seeds of M. pudica, and U. lobata were moderately tolerant to soil moisture stress and best adapted to moist environment. All the weed species seeds germinated over a wide range of soil pH values with the highest germination occurring at pH 6. In all the species, seedling emergence was declined rapidly with increasing depth with the exception of U. lobata. Seedling emergence significantly declined when the duration of flooding was three days or longer in dicotyledonous weed species and two days or longer in monocotyledonous weeds. This study illustrates the adaptability of these weeds to different environmental conditions which would enable the development of management strategies to reduce their populations below economic threshold levels in coconut plantations.

Safety operational envelope (SOE) is the area which guarantees the safety of a submarine from the accident such as jamming and flooding. The maximum safe depth is set to prevent the damage to the hull from increasing water pressure with depth. A minimum safety depth is set to prevent a submarine from the exposure above the free surface and collision against surface ship. The prediction method for the SOE in the design phase is needed to operate the submarine safely. In this paper, the modeling and calculation methods of the SOE are introduced. Main ballast tank blowing modeling and propeller force modeling are conducted to simulate the accidents and the recovery process. The SOEs are established based on the crash stop and emergency rising maneuver simulation. From the simulation results, it can be known that the emergency rising maneuver is more effective recovery action than the crash stop.

In recent years, the risk of external flooding of major national facilities has increased significantly since 2000 due to the increase in local heavy rainfall events. For important domestic national facilities, it is necessary to analyze the risk of external flooding as flooding in major sites due to heavy rain can cause functional paralysis in major facilities and ultimately lead to massive trouble events. In order to manage the safety of main facilities and its related facilities at a high level, it is necessary to analyze the degree of disaster such as flood depth, flood flow rate, flood time and flood intensity when extreme floods (LIP) are introduced. In addition, the degree of vulnerability of these related facilities should be assessed and risk assessments should be reassessed through linkage analysis that combines the degree of disaster and vulnerability. By calculating a new flood hazard curve for the flood depth and flood intensity in major national facilities under the heavy rainfall conditions through this study, it is expected to be a basis for the waterproof design of important SOC facilities, flood prevention function design, advancement of flood prevention measures and procedures and evaluation of flood mitigation functions.

Recently, the scale of flood damage occurring in urban areas is increasing due to climate change and urbanization, so various flooding analysis techniques are needed. In the Sadangcheon Stream basin, which has been continuously flooded since 2010, a basic plan for improving drainage was established using XP-SWMM and measures to prevent flooding were proposed. However, in the process of inundation analysis, the analysis considering the city's buildings was not conducted, resulting in a problem that the degree of flooding damage tends to be overestimated. Therefore, in this study, XP-SWMM was used to compare and analyze cases where buildings were not considered and designated as inactive areas. As a result of the study, it was analyzed if the building was not considered, the flood damaged area was 271,100 m2 and the depth of submersion was 0.15 m, and if the building was considered inactive area, the flood damaged area was 172,900 m2 and the depth of submersion was 0.32 m that it is under-estimated about 36% and an flow velocity around the building increased from 1.62 m/s to 1.83 m/s about 1.12 times.

The increasing effect of urbanization has been more apparent through flooding and downstream water quality especially from heavy rainfalls. In response, stormwater runoff management solutions have focused on runoff volume reduction and treatment through infiltration. However, there are areas with low infiltration soils or are experiencing more dry days and even drought. In this study, a lab-scale infiltration system was used to compare the applicability of two types of soil as base layer in gravel-filled infiltration systems with emphasis on runoff capture and suspended solids removal. The two types of soils used were sandy soil representing a high infiltration system and clayey soil representing a low infiltration system. Findings showed that infiltration rates increased with the water depth above the gravel-soil interface indicating that the available depth for water storage affects this parameter. Runoff capture in the high infiltration system is more affected by rainfall depth and inflow rates as compared to that in the low infiltration system. Based on runoff capture and pollutant removal analysis, a media depth of at least 0.4 m for high infiltration systems and 1 m for low infiltration systems is required to capture and treat a 10-mm rainfall in Korea. A maximum infiltration rate of 200 mm/h was also found to be ideal to provide enough retention time for pollutant removal. Moreover, it was revealed that low infiltration systems are more susceptible to horizontal flows and that the length of the structure may be more critical that the depth in this condition.

Recently, the incidence of flooding in Korea has decreased by the measures by central and local governments, however the scale of damage is increasing due to the improvement of living standard. One of the causes of such flood damage is natural causes such as rainfall exceeding the planned frequency of flood control under climate change. In addition, there are artificial causes such as encroachment of river spaces and management problems in upstream basins without consideration of downstream damage potential by regional development flood. In this study, in order to reduce the inundation damage caused by flooding of river, the situation at the time of inundation damage was reproduced by the detailed topographic data and 2D numerical model. Therefore, the effect of preparing various disaster prevention measures for the lowland was simulated in advance so that quantitative evaluation could be achieved. The target area is Taehwa river basin, where flooding was caused by the flooding of river waters caused by typhoon Chaba in October 2016. As a result of rainfall-discharge and two-dimensional analysis, the simulation results agree with the observed in terms of flood depth, flood arrival time and flooded area. This study examined the applicability of hydraulic analysis on river using two-dimensional inundation model, by applying detailed topographic data and it is expected to contribute to establish of disaster prevention measures.
The importance of the dual drainage system model has increased as the urban flood damage has increased due to the increase of local storm due to climate change. The dual drainage model is a model for more accurately expressing the phenomena of surface flow and conduit flow. Surface runoff and pipe runoff are analyzed through the respective equations and parameters. And the results are expressed visually in various ways. Therefore, inundation analysis results of dual drainage model are used as important data for urban flood prevention plan. In this study, the applicability of the COBRA model, which can be interpreted by combining the dual drainage system with the natural watershed and the urban watershed, was investigated. And the results were compared with other dual drainage models (XP-SWMM, UFAM) to determine suitability of the results. For the same watershed, the XP-SWMM simulates the flooding characteristics of 3 types of dual drainage system model and the internal flooding characteristics due to the lack of capacity of the conduit. UFAM showed the lowest inundation analysis results compared with the other models according to characteristics of consideration of street inlet. COBRA showed the general result that the flooded area and the maximum flooding depth are proportional to the increase in rainfall. It is considered that the COBRA model is good in terms of the stability of the model considering the characteristics of the model to simulate the effective rainfall according to the soil conditions and the realistic appearance of the flooding due to the surface reservoir.

The importance of preemptive flood preparation is growing as the importance of preparing for climate change increases due to record heavy rains in the Seoul metropolitan area in August 2022. Although it is responding to flood control through reservoirs and sediment sites, the government is preparing excellent spill reduction measures through a preliminary consultation system for Low Impact Development (LID). In this study, the depth of flooding was simulated when LID technologies were applied to the Sillim 2-drain region in Dorimcheon Stream basin, an urban stream, using XP-SWMM, a two-dimensional model. In addition, the analysis and applicability of the effect of reducing rainfall runoff for the largest rainfall in a day were reviewed, and it was judged to be effective as a method of reducing flooding in urban areas. Although there is a limitation in which the reduction effect is overestimated, it is thought that the LID technologies can be a significant countermeasure as a countermeasure for small-scale flooded areas where some flooding occurs after structural flooding measures are established.

This paper presents treatment efficiency and plant growth of a subsurface-flow constructed wetland system (23 m in length, 6.5 m in width, 0.65 m in depth) over one year after its establishment on floodplain of a stream in June 2000. An upper layer of 10 cm in depth was filled with course sand and the main biological layer of 50 cm depth with crushed stone with 8 - 15 mm in diameter. The system was planted with common reeds (Phragmites australis) grown on pots. Effluent discharged from a secondary-level treatment plant was funneled into it. Reed stems emerging in April 2001 grew up to 145.9cm until July 2001. The number of reed stems in July 2001 increased by about 11 times compared with that just after planting. The system was inundated seven times by storms over the monitoring period. Reeds were slightly bent after flooding, however they returned to almost upright standing in a couple of weeks. Small portion of inside slope of berm was eroded and the system surface had a sedimentation of 2 - 3 mm in depth. The average removal rates for SS, $BOD_5$, T-N and T-P was 73%, 70%, 53%, and 72%, respectively. The purification efficiencies for SS and $BOD_5$ were fairly good. The reduction rates for T-N was relatively low for the period of late fall through winter until early spring due to lower water temperature which retarded microbial nitrification and denitrification mechanisms. Reduction in the concentration of T-P during fall and winter was relatively higher than that during spring. Leach of phosphorous from plant litters lying on system surface and slight resuspension of precipitated phosphorous in substrates resulted in lower reduction for T-P in spring.
Germination and emergence habits of Chinese milk vetch (CMV) were examined to obtain the basic information for the effect of environmental conditions and cultural practices on the seedling density. Seed germination tests with different water potentials, temperatures, and soil and water depths showed the environmental effects on the characters related to seed germination in CMV. Imbibition under different temperatures reflects that initial velocity was rapid at higher temperature, however, the times to full imbibition were not different between 15 and $25^{\circ}$. The optimal germination temperature for CMV germination was ranged from 15 to 20 and the germination was highly affected by water potential of media at relatively high temperature above $20^{\circ}$. When the seeds were sown in flooded condition the germination was not proportionally affected by water depth. In addition, there was no correlation between water depth and oxygen concentration. The germination of seeds flooded by 2cm water depth were poorly germinated compared to other depths. Results indicated that the germination of submerged seeds was more highly influenced by flooding depth than the temperature, it was also affected more strongly at 10 than $20^{\circ}$. Emergence of CMV depending on the thickness of covered soil was poor when the soil layer was greater than 5cm. In the experiment with seeds collected between 22 days after flowering (OAF) and 52 DAF, the highest germination ability of CMV seeds was observed at 39 DAF and germinability was decreased subsequently as seeds became mature. The lower germinability may be due to the enhanced seed dormancy.
