This study aims to assess the slope stability variation of Jeonbuk drainage areas by RCM model outputs based on A1B climate change scenario and infinite slope stability model based on the previous research by Choi et al.(2013). For a large-scale slope stability analysis, we developed a GIS-based database regarding topographic, geologic and forestry parameters and also calculated daily maximum rainfall for the study period(1971~2100). Then, we assess slope stability variation of the 20 sub-catchments of Jeonbuk under the climate change scenario. The results show that the areal-average value of safety factor was estimated at 1.36(moderately stable) in spite of annual rainfall increase in the future. In addition, 7 sub-catchments became worse and 5 sub-catchments became better than the present period(1971~2000) in terms of safety factor in the future.
Liquid Zone Control System controls the power of heavy water reactor. Changing the level of each zone compartment regulates one local zone power of 14 zone powers, iud the level is limited less than 90% by the control algorithm to prevent the flood. In recent years, the level and the power was controlled oscillatory in the upper zones. To find out the condition of cycling, the zone control system was modelled with the linear difference equations and identified using parameter estimation. The pole-zero plot showed that the major pole was near the stability boundary, and the system had oscillatory characteristics in nature.

Basalt originates from volcanic magma and flood volcanoes, a very hot fluid or semifluid material under the earth's crust, solidified in the open air. Basalt is a common term used for a variety of volcanic rocks, which are gray, dark in colour, formed from the molten lava after solidification. Recently, attention has been devoted to continuous basalt fibers (CBF) whose primary advantage consists in their low cost, good resistance to acids and solvents, and good thermal stability. In order to investigate reinforcement effect, this paper did FEM analysis with shell element. The result were as follows; BCF deck plate did elastic behavior to 450 kN, reinforcement effect of basalt fiber (BF) was less. But BCF's perpendicular deflection occurred little about 23 mm comparing with RC deck plate in load 627 kN. Stiffness was very improved by basalt fiber reinforcement.

For effective conservation of ocean and harbor, long-term and systematic development of the ocean and harbor monitoring system is essential. The monitoring system capable of real-time and accurate data acquisition is necessary for dealing with contamination such as red tide and the flood. This paper introduces the effective and economical real-time harbor environmental monitoring system that utilizes PCS wireless data communication technology. The monitoring system has various functions such as multiple communication, TCP/IP protocol for wireless internet access, system time synchronization, bi-directional communication between the measuring device and the server. The system has been implemented at Shinseondae harbor pier in Busan to validate the systems stability and effectiveness in data acquisition. The acquired real-time ocean and harbor environmental data is expected to have a large effect, when shared by public through internet.

Scour vulnerability evaluation for shallow foundations was performed to assure bridge safety against scour in the national capital region. The case studies for 26 shallow foundations consisted of site investigation including boring test, bridge scour analysis for the design flood, bearing capacity evaluation of the bridge foundation before and after scour, and comprehensive evaluation of bridge scour vulnerability. Bridge scour vulnerability was determined based on the interdisciplinary concept considering predicted scour depth for the design floods and bearing capacity of foundation as well as dimensions of foundation. Nine of 26 shallow foundations showed the potential future vulnerability to scour with significant decrease in the bearing capacity of foundations due to scour and the remaining 17 were expected to maintain their stability against scour.

Preserving reservoir safety has recognized to be important for the public where a vast majority of dams are located upstream of greatly populated cities and industrialized areas. Buckling, floatation and cavitation have caused failure in the spillway gates and conveyance features during past catastrophic events; showed their vulnerability and need for regular inspection along with reviewing design calculations to ensure the spillway meet current design standards. This paper investigates the hydraulic and structural consideration of dam's spillway by evaluating the data of Karkheh Dam's. Discharge capacity, flood routings and cavitation damage risk were main features for hydraulic considerations where hydrostatic and hydrodynamic forces and stability conditions were considered in structural considerations.
Recently, the projects which are to increase the capacity of the flood control are being actively performed because of the abnormal climate changes throughout the country. In this study, the regression analysis was performed using both Kelvin model and the real settlement measured at the crest of the existing concrete face rockfill dam(CFRD) to estimate the long-term deformation behavior characteristics such as creep which occurs without additional load. In addition, the effects on changes in physical properties (E, G, K) of the dam construction materials by deformation characteristics of the dam were evaluated, and the reasonable stability analysis method of the dam was proposed to obtain the long-term stability considering the changes in physical properties induced by the long-term deformation behavior in case of heightening the existing dams.

Today, a trend that tries to return the artificial space of a river to a natural one is expanding. But in Korea, which lies in the monsoon climate zone, rivers endure flood damage every year. Moreover, climatic change from global warming causes severe variations in precipitation patterns. Until recently, river restoration practices in Korea have followed partial restoration. These restorative treatments transformed artificial structures of the stream to natural ones and introduced natural vegetation by imitating natural or semi-natural streams. Treatment transformed the riparian structure and increased the diversity of micro-topography and vegetation. Furthermore, restoration recovered species composition, increased species diversity, and inhibited the establishment of exotic species. In particular, the Suip stream, which was left to its natural process for approximately 50 years, recovered its natural features almost completely through passive restoration. An urban stream, the Yangjae, and a rural stream, the Dongmoon, were restored partially by applying ecological principles. On the contrary, technological treatment applied to recover flood damage induced species composition far from the natural vegetation and decreased species diversity. Additionally, this treatment increased exotic species. The same results were found also in benthic invertebrate and fish fauna. The above-mentioned results reflect the importance of ecological considerations in river management.

A tragic disaster happened by capsizing O-Ryong 501 trawler at Western Bering Sea in 1st, Dec. 2014. The disaster was caused by the severe weather and the long deferred escape from the storm in fully developed high sea. Lots of sea water from poop deck rushed into the fish ponder with fishes all together after hauling net and then remove the fishes from codend. The vessel became to incline to the one side caused by the weight and the free surface effect of flood sea waters and fishes at initial stage. In spite of crews all effort to discharge the waters, but the work was not achieved successfully. For the worse thing, the order of abandon ship was issued too late. After all, the ship capsized and sank, then almost crews became to the victims of the casualty including captain. In this paper, author carried out restrictively the calculation of dynamic factors influenced on the disaster including the weather condition and effects of the flood sea waters, and found out that the most important causes of the disaster were the decrease of stabilities, GM was decreased from 0.9m to 0.08 m, and the high waves which led to the vessel disaster.
