Two-dimensional large-amplitude motions in regular harmonic wave are treated in time domain, by satisfying the exact body boundary condition and the linear free surface condition. For the present numerical calculation, the method of free-surface spectral representation with simple source distribution on the instantaneous body surface has been extended to include the effect of the incident wave. Calculations of the wave exciting force are performed for a submerged circular cylinder fixed or oscillating with large amplitude. Especially, nonlinear effects on the time-mean forces are studied in detail. It is shown that relative motion between the body and the fluid particle gives a significant effect on the lift and drift forces. Also, large-amplitude motion of a submerged circular cylinder and that of a floating Lewis-form cylinder are directly simulated in time domain. In the calculation results, some nonlinear effects are shown.

As a result of the exhaustion of fossil fuel, interest about renewable energy is increasing day by day. Inter alia, study for wave power energy of which the calculability is high and the available amount is abundant is going along actively. As a float-countweight wave energy converter is equivalent improved structural strength compared with oscillating body type. we made the wave only in order to up and down motion by setting up bulkhead which is called wave camber at the outside of float. This paper mainly focuses on generation amount of plural connected float-counterweight wave energy converter and we calculate the amount. The result, we confirmed that the more a numerical value of nl/L increases, the more amount of electricity rises and also when it is over nl/L=0.40, it is possible to get continuous generation. Through this study, we can use as basic data for design of wave chamber on advantageous condition at the real seas and by way of estimation for generation amount.

The accurate prediction of motion in waves of a marine vehicle is essential to assess the maximum sea state vs. operational requirements. This is particularly true for small crafts, such as Autonomous Surface Vessels (ASV). Two different numerical methods to predict motions of a SWATH-ASV are considered: an inviscid strip theory initially developed at MIT for catamarans and then adapted for SWATHs and new a hybrid strip theory, based on the numerical solution of the radiation forces by an unsteady viscous, non-linear free surface flow solver. Motion predictions obtained by the viscous flow method are critically discussed against those obtained by potential flow strip theory. Effects of viscosity are analyzed by comparison of sectional added mass and damping calculated at different frequencies and for different sections, RAOs and motions response in irregular waves at zero speed. Some relevant conclusions can be drawn from this study: influence of viscosity is definitely non negligible for SWATH vessels like the one presented: amplitude of the pitch and heave motions predicted at the resonance frequency differ of 20% respectively and 50%; in this respect, the hybrid method with fully non-linear, viscous free surface calculation of the radiation forces turns out to be a very valuable tool to improve the accuracy of traditional strip theories, without the burden of long computational times requested by fully viscous time domain three dimensional simulations.

This paper presents Samsung CNC (Computer Numerical Controller) system with an intel 80486/487 as the main CPU and a 32 bit floating point DSP(Digital Signal Processor) TMS320C30 as the motion control CPU. The Samsung CNC system diverse user-frienly characteristics such as multi-tasking, powerful menu system, internal PLC system, and 2/3 dimensional graphics in wire and solid mode. The main CPU executes central processing program, user interface program, interpreter, BMI, etc while the motion control CPU carries out some interpolations, acceleration/deceleration, and PID control algorithm with feedforward terms. Complex interpolations except linear and circular ones are performed on the main control CPU. The experimental results for the circular interpolation under linear acceleration/deceleration shows that the proposed CNC system can be widely used in controlling machining centers with good machining accuracy.

Design procedure of WEC (wave energy converter) using the heaving motion of a floating cylinder-type buoy coupled with LEG (linear electric generator) system is introduced. It is seen that the maximum power can actually be obtained at the optimal conditions ($c_{PTO}=b_T$, ${\omega}={\omega}_N$). Then, based on the developed theory, several design strategies are proposed to further enhance the maximum PTO (power take off), which includes the intentional mismatching with the heave natural frequency, which is 15% higher value than the peak frequency of input velocity spectrum. By using the intentional mismatching strategy, the generated power is actually increased and the corresponding draft as well as the required PTO damping value is significantly reduced, which is a big advantage in manufacturing the WEC with practical LEG (linear electric generator) system.

This study evaluated the Hook-up installation of an offshore site construction process, which is the final step in an offshore site installation process. During Hook-up installation, the offshore structure can have a detrimental effect on the work stability due to low-frequency motion. Moreover, economic costs can be incurred by the increase in available days of a tugboat. Therefore, this study developed a numerical analysis program to assess the dynamic behavior of mooring systems during hook-up installation to analyze the generally performed installation process and determine when the tugboat should be released. In this program, the behavior of an offshore structure was calculated using Cummin's time-domain motion equation, and the mooring system was calculated by Lumped mass method (LMM). In addition, a tugboat algorithm for hook-up installation was developed to apply the Hook-up procedure. The model used in the calculations was the barge type assuming FPSO (Floating production storage and off-loading) and has a taut mooring system connected to 16 mooring lines. The results of the simulation were verified by comparing with both MOSES, which is a commercial program, and a calculation method for restoring coefficient matrix, which was introduced by Patel and Lynch (1982). Finally, the offset of the structure according to the number of tugboats was calculated using the hook-up simulation, and the significant value was used to represent the calculation result.

When a body starts to move, the flow near the intersection point between a body and a free surface changes violently and rapidly in a very short initial time interval. This flow phenomena must be investigated whenever one treats the interaction between a body and a fluid, such as the motion of a floating body, sloshing in a tank, wave maker problem, entry of a body into a fluid etc.. Until Roberts(1987), it was widely accepted that a singularity exists at the intersection point. However, he showed that the singularity does not exist if a body moves non-impulsively. In this paper, an analytical solution cosistent for the case of impulsive motion of a body is obtained by including the effect of surface tension. From the characteristics of the newly obtained solution, a critical value associated with an oscillating phenomenon is found, and further more, it is shown that the oscillating phenomenon does not appear in the region where the distance form the intersection point is less than this critical value.
Reliable prediction of the motion of FOWT (floating offshore wind turbine) and associated mooring line tension is important in both design and operation/monitoring processes. In the present study, a 5MW OC4 semisubmersible wind turbine is numerically modeled, simulated, and analyzed by the open-source numerical tool, OpenFAST and in-house numerical tool, Charm3D-FAST. Another commercial-level program FASTv8-OrcaFlex is also introduced for comparison for selected cases. The three simulation programs solve the same turbine-floater-mooring coupled dynamics in time domain while there exist minor differences in the details of the program. Both the motions and mooring-line tensions are calculated and compared with the DeepCWind 1/50 scale model-testing results. The system identification between the numerical and physical models is checked through the static-offset test and free-decay test. Then the system motions and mooring tensions are systematically compared among the simulated results and measured values. Reasonably good agreements between the simulation and measurement are demonstrated for (i) white-noise random waves, (ii) typical random waves, and (iii) typical random waves with steady wind. Based on the comparison between numerical results and experimental data, the relative importance and role of the differences in the numerical methodologies of those three programs can be observed and interpreted. These comparative-study results may provide a certain confidence level and some insight of potential variability in motion and tension predictions for future FOWT designs and applications.

As ocean resources in shallow water areas are being exhausted, deep sea development is becoming common these days. Therefore floating type offshore structures are more competitive than fixed type structures, and FPSO is the most popular one these days. FPSO's are generally operated in a specific region and positioned to meet mostly head or bow waves in order to reduce roll motions. However this makes these vessels more vulnerable to green water around the bow region, and therefore the bow shape must be properly designed to mitigate green water damage. In the present study, experimental results for three different FPSO bow shapes in regular head waves were analyzed and compared to each other. Also CFD computations were carried out as a sample validation case for the database built for CFD code validation.
This paper presents the design concept and operation results of float-off for FSO (340,000 DWT Class, ELF AMENAM KPONO Project) built on the ground, without dry dock facilities. It was the first attempt to build FSO, completely, on the ground and launch it using DBU (Double Barge Unit, which was connected by rigid frame structure.) The major characteristics of FSO, which are similar to general VLCC type hull, including topside structure, weigh 51,000 metric ton. In order to have sufficient stability during the deck immersion of DBU, while passing through a minimum water plane area zone, proper trim control was completed with LMC (Load Master Computer). The major features of the monitoring system include calculation for transverse bending moment, shear force, local strength check of each connector, based on component stress, and deformation check during the load-out and float-off. Another major concern during the operation was to avoid damages at the bottom and sides of FSO, due to motion & movement after free-floating; therefore, adequate clearances between DBU and FSO were to be provided, and guide posts were installed to prevent side damage of the DBU casings. This paper also presents various measures that indecate the connector bending moment, damage stability analysis, and mooring of DBU during float off.
