Study on the Floating and Sinking of Insects Living on Water (물 위에 사는 곤충의 부양과 가라앉음에 관한 연구)

  • It is well known that the surface tension forces can make a particle denser than water float when the size of the particle is of the order of 1 mm. This is deeply related to the basic mechanism enabling small insects to wander around on the pond surface and also to a newly emerging technology of self-assembly using capillary forces. For the quantitative understanding of this effect, we experimentally study the maximum density of a cylinder that can float on water and how fast the cylinder sinks when the density exceeds the maximum value. We compare our experimental results with the theoretical prediction and find good agreement between them.

  • 본고에서는 최근에 IMO에서 시행될 VDR(Voyage Data Recorder)에 대해 분석하고 특히 통신설비와 결합된 부양형 S-VDR(Simplified -Voyage Data Recoder)에 대한 통신 기술적 측면에 대해서 기술하였다. 이 장비에 결합된 통신 기술은 기존 EPIRB(Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon) 기술을 S-VDR과 결합한 것으로 통신적인 측면에서 기술적인 변화는 없다. VDR의 경우에도 기능을 단순화하여 경제적인 항행장비인 S-VDR로 변화되었으나 기술적인 측면의 변화는 없다. 부양형 S-VDR은 통신 기능을 포함하고 있으므로 통신설비이며 기존익 조난 구조를 위한 EPIRB를 대신할 수 없다. 그러므로 본고에서는 부양형 S-VDR에 대한 국제 표준화기구(IMO, IEC, ITU, COSPAS-SARSAT 등)의 관련 자료를 분석하고 사용 범위 및 용도 등을 명확히 정리했으며 이 결과가 해상통신 관련 규정에 반영되도록 제안하였다.

  • China has pegged its currency to the US dollar (at RMB 8.3 to the dollar) since 1994. The yuan's dollar peg has increased demand for chinese exports, which account for about a third of gross domestic product. The peg has also helped to attract $308 billion in foreign investment. But there has been criticism that China has over the past two years been engaging in protracted, large-scale intervention in one direction in exchange markets. According to many reports, RMB is undervalued by somewhere between 15 and 30% by manipulation. China may not want to float the currency at once, since doing so would have a dramatic and negative effect on the economy. However, there has so far been strong pressure from trading partners including the Unite States, Japan, EU. Considered all these things, China may eventually allow some changes in the Yuan's value. This may come in the form of widening a band of movement for the currency, rather than letting it float freely in the market.

  • The paper is that study method to reduce bad influence that act to the floating fish cage by effect of environment in sea. Fish cage is controlled buoyancy using air control. According to marine environment, it is descend automatically to set-up depth and rise on the surface of the sea. The paper is the preceding research for a practical application. The fish cage simplified with the spherical float body. Then a control algorithm and a program developed by the experiment. And we did modelling by bond graph technique, and controlled by the practical reference model for PID control.

  • End of July. 2002 Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. Offshore Division is successfully completed Load-out & Float-off work of "AMENAM KPONO/FSO Project" similar to 300K VLCC size. The AMENAM FSO hull and topside module built at the HHI Offshore yard using "On-Ground Building Method" developed by HHI. Various methodologies/techniques like Flexi-built FPSO Hull. Topside module erection method. Load-out Float-off methodology etc. are combined to develop a successful on-ground building method. In this paper, we described the "Hull Structural Strength Analysis Methodology" using 3-D Finite Element Analysis and results. This analysis is performed to verily the structural integrity or the AMENAM FSO hull during the main load-out on two semi-submersible barges combined together.

  • Deep Neural Networks (DNN) has become an essential data processing architecture for the implementation of multiple computer vision tasks. Recently, DNN-based algorithms achieve much higher recognition accuracy than traditional algorithms based on shallow learning. However, training and inference DNNs require huge computational capabilities than daily usage purposes of computers. Moreover, with increased size and depth of DNNs, CPUs may be unsatisfactory since they use serial processing by default. GPUs are the solution that come up with greater speed compared to CPUs because of their Parallel Processing/Computation nature. In this paper, we analyze the inference time complexity of DNNs using well-known computer vision library, OpenCV. We measure and analyze inference time complexity for three cases, CPU, GPU-Float32, and GPU-Float16.

  • It is commonly recognized to need performance management for successful construction project. PPC measurement of Last Planner System is one of construction project measurement method. PPC measurement is quantitatively assessment to go through construction, and that is not completely to be trusted when compare a project with another or an individual case work with another in same project. According to, purpose of this study is comparison indicator establishment that compare project with another or an individual case work with another it is not use PPC measurement for quantitatively assessment to go through construction.   • This paper presents a GA-based optimal algorithm for a resource leveling model that levels the resources of a set of non-critical activities experiencing conflicts simultaneously up to an assumed level of resource rates specified by the planner using a pair-wise comparison of the activities being considered. A parameter called the future float is adopted and applied as an indicator for assigning leveling priorities to the sets of activities experiencing conflicts. A construction project network example was worked out to demonstrate the performance of the proposed method. The histogram obtained using the algorithm proposed was shown to be the same as, or very close to that produced by the existing resource leveling method based on the least total float rule, which shifts non-critical activities individually.
