The aerial launching UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) mainly uses a set of folding tandem wings to maximize flight performance and minimize the space required for mounting in a mothership. This folding tandem wing has a unique aerodynamic problem that is different from the general type of fixed wing aircraft, such as the rear wing interference problem caused by the wing of the front wing wake and vortex, and the imbalance of the pivot moment applied to the front and rear wings when the wing is deployed. In this paper, we have modeled and simulated various cases through computational fluid dynamics based on the finite volume method and analyzed various aerodynamic phenomena of the tandem wing type aircraft. We find that the front wing shall be installed higher than the rear for minimizing the wake influence and the rear wing can be deployed faster than the front because of the pivot moment due to aerodynamic forces. Also, considering the pivot moment due to aerodynamic force, the rear wing can be deployed much faster than the front wing. Therefore, it is necessary to consider it when developing the wing deploy mechanism.
'Tracers' are bullets that emit light at the backside so that the shooter can see the trajectory of their flight. These light-emitting bullets allow snipers to hit targets faster and more accurately. Conventional tracers are all combustion type which use the heat generated upon ignition. However, the conventional tracer has a fire risk at the impact site due to the residual flame and has a by-product that can contaminate the inside of the gun and lead to firearm failure. To resolve these problems, it is necessary to develop non-combustion-type tracers that can convert heat to luminance, so-called 'thermoluminescence (TL)'. Here, we highly improve the thermoluminescence properties of MgB4O7 through co-doping of Dy3++Ce3+ and Dy3++Na+. The presence of doping materials (Dy3+, Ce3+, Na+) was confirmed by XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy). The as-synthesized co-doped MgB4O7 was irradiated with a specific radiation dose and heated to 500 ℃under dark conditions. Different thermoluminescence characteristics were exhibited depending on the type or amounts of doping elements, and the highest luminance of 370 cd/m2 was obtained when Dy 10 % and Na 5 % were co-doped.
In terms of the international air transport, the open skies policy implies freedom in the sky or opening the sky. In the normative respect, the open skies policy is a kind of open-door policy which gives various forms of traffic right to other countries, but on the other hand it is a policy of free competition in the international air transport. Since the Airline Deregulation Act of 1978, the United States has signed an open skies agreement with many countries, starting with the Netherlands, so that competitive large airlines can compete in the international air transport market where there exist a lot of business opportunities. South Korea now has an open skies agreement with more than 20 countries. The frequent flyer program (FFP) is part of a broad-based marketing alliance which has been used as an airfare strategy since the U.S. government's airline deregulation. The membership-based program is an incentive plan that provides mileage points to customers for using airline services and rewards customer loyalty in tangible forms based on their accumulated points. In its early stages, the frequent flyer program was focused on marketing efforts to attract customers, but now in the environment of intense competition among airlines, the program is used as an important strategic marketing tool for enhancing business performance. Therefore, airline companies agree that they need to identify customer needs in order to secure loyal customers more effectively. The outcomes from an airline's frequent flyer program can have a variety of effects on international competition. First, the airline can obtain a more dominant position in the air flight market by expanding its air route networks. Second, the availability of flight products for customers can be improved with an increase in flight frequency. Third, the airline can preferentially expand into new markets and thus gain advantages over its competitors. However, there are few empirical studies on the airline frequent flyer program. Accordingly, this study aims to explore the effects of the program on international competition, after reviewing the types of strategic alliance between airlines. Making strategic airline alliances is a worldwide trend resulting from the open skies policy. South Korea also needs to be making open skies agreements more realistic to promote the growth and competition of domestic airlines. The present study is about the performance of the airline frequent flyer program and international competition under the open skies policy. With a sample of five global alliance groups (Star, Oneworld, Wings, Qualiflyer and Skyteam), the study was attempted as an empirical study of the effects that the resource structures and levels of information technology held by airlines in each group have on the type of alliance, and one-way analysis of variance and regression analysis were used to test hypotheses. The findings of this study suggest that both large airline companies and small/medium-size airlines in an alliance group with global networks and organizations are able to achieve high performance and secure international competitiveness. Airline passengers earn mileage points by using non-flight services through an alliance network with hotels, car-rental services, duty-free shops, travel agents and more and show high interests in and preferences for related service benefits. Therefore, Korean airline companies should develop more aggressive marketing programs based on multilateral alliances with other services including hotels, as well as with other airlines.

The development of an air data acquisition algorithm has been described in the supersonic flow at the preliminary design stage with pressure data acquisition device composed of major three total pressure sensors and two static pressure sensors which are installed on the surface of a cone type supersonic inlet. Through this algorithm, Mach number, angle of attack and sideslip angle can be very easily derived with simple interpolation algorithm and predefined data tables. The available range of Mach number is 1.6 to 4.0, angle of attack, $-12^{\circ}$ to $12^{\circ}$ and sideslip angle, $-12^{\circ}$ to $12^{\circ}$. In preliminary design stage, the data tables applied to the developed algorithm are constructed with data driven by Taylor Maccoll equation. The present algorithm would be useful to get supersonic flow air data for the various aerial vehicles and their flight tests.

To investigate earthquake responses of structures with basements affected by soil deposits, centrifuge tests were performed using an in-flight earthquake simulator. The test specimen was composed of a single-degree-of-freedom structure model, a basement and sub-soil deposits in a centrifuge container. The test parameters were the dynamic period of the structure model, boundary conditions of the basement, existence of soil deposits, centrifugal acceleration level, and type and level of input earthquake accelerations. When soil deposits did not exist, the earthquake responses of the structures with fixed basement were significantly greater than those of the structure without basement. Also, the earthquake responses of the structures with the fixed basement surrounded by soil deposits were amplified, but the amplifications were smaller than those of the structures without basement. The earthquake responses of the structures with the half-embedded basement in the soil deposits were greater than those estimated by the fixed base model using the measured free-field ground motion. The test showed that the basement and the soil deposit should be simultaneously considered in the numerical analysis model, and the stiffness of the half-embedded was not effective.
An optical tracking plays an important role for measurement operation, as it is responsible for low altitude measurements that are difficult to obtain with radar systems. Since the existing optical tracking systems have not been developed in the proving ground itself so far, it is difficult to modify them to fit the environment of the proving ground. Also, they are designed as a vehicle-mounted type, so there is a limitation in selecting an optimal site. The in-house developed small optical tracking system is designed with a simple configuration to overcome these shortcomings and makes it possible for operators to operate the system at any place in the proving ground. In addition, there has been a need of developing small optical trackers by ourselves to be prepared for future research so that artificial intelligence (AI) can be applied to the optical tracking systems. In this paper, we described the design concept of the small optical tracker, the configuration of the components to implement the basic tracking function, and showed the results of the simulation to set the configuration of the equipment according to the characteristics of the flight targets.
Wiring defect is a major concern for safe aircraft operations. However, troubleshooting process of a wiring defect is very difficult due to extensive and complex wiring system and installed location. Recently, time domain reflectometer (TDR) equipment that enables effective defected wiring troubleshooting has been introduced. Unfortunately, TDRs have not practically adopted by most of airlines' maintenance departments because the effectiveness and usefulness of TDRs have not been verified. This study was conducted to verify if TDRs can identify the location and type of defected aircraft wiring, and whether they can be applied for troubleshooting purposes. Experimental plan was established by using various wires and connections applied to actual aircraft and the observed results were compared with the TDR operation guide. The usability of the TDR in actual aircraft wiring defect detection may be acceptable as the experimental results showed similar results to the TDR operation guide.

The purpose of this research is to investigate the actual wearing conditions of working uniform and identify problems for the aircraft mechanic. For this study, questionnaire surveys were conducted dividing according to styles of clothing; one-piece and two-piece styles. Subjects were 343 men working in flight line. Questionnaire of 159 two-piece styles and 184 one-piece ones were used in analysis. The results of the study are as follows; The result about wearing each type of working uniform showed that the two-piece one is always as the air force uniform, whereas the one-piece one is worn only a few times. They felt inconvenience during all operations except in the sitting position, crawling position, and positions in which they were using tools. Accordingly, the result of the functionality reported dissatisfaction on all question items. Therefore, uniform of two-piece style achieved better results on all questions related to motional flexibility and functionality. Questions on changes to finishing methods showed that each airline employed different methods for both two-pieced and one-pieced uniforms. The answers about the unstitched or worn-out parts of the two-piece garments showed that pants were unstitched on the inner seam of the trouser leg and hip regions, but the upper one was not. In case of the one-pieced uniform, the parts of wearing out is the seam of hip and the unstitched parts are knee region and hem line of pants. Questions concerning their satisfaction with the material of uniforms indicated a high rate of dissatisfaction, particularly in its ventilation and absorbency. Questions concerning the preferred design of working uniform indicated a preference for two-piece uniform rather than one-piece ones.

There were appreciable progresses on the study of shock wave / boundary layer interaction control in the transonic flow without nonequilibrium condensation. But in general, the actual flows associated with those of the airfoil of high speed flight body, the cascade of steam turbine and so on accompany the nonequilibrium condensation, and under a certain circumstance condensation shock wave occurs. Condensation shock wave / boundary layer interaction control is quite different from that of case without condensation, because the droplets generated by the result of nonequilibrium condensation may clog the holes of the porous wall for passive control and the flow interaction mechanism between the droplets and the porous system is concerned in the flow with nonequilibrium condensation. In these connections, it is necessary to study the condensation shock wave / boundary layer interaction control by passive cavity in the flow accompanying nonequilibrium condensation with condensation shock wave. In the present study, experiments were made on a roof mounted half circular arc in an indraft type supersonic wind tunnel to evaluate the effects of the porosity, the porous wall area and the depth of cavity on the pressure distribution around condensation shock wave. It was found that the porosity of 12% which was larger than the case of without nonequilibrium condensation produced the largest reduction of pressure fluctuations in the vicinity of condensation shock wave. The results also showed that wider porous area, deeper cavity for the same porosity of 12% are more favourable "passive" effect than the cases of its opposite. opposite.

We introduced a stereo camera on the aircraft to detect flight objects and to estimate the 3D position of them. The Saliency map algorithm based on PCT was proposed to detect a small object between clouds, and then we processed a stereo matching algorithm to find out the disparity between the left and right camera. In order to extract accurate disparity, cost aggregation region was used as a variable region to adapt to detection object. In this paper, we use the detection result as the cost aggregation region. In order to extract more precise disparity, sub-pixel interpolation is used to extract float type-disparity at sub-pixel level. We also proposed a method to estimate the spatial position of an object by using camera parameters. It is expected that it can be applied to image - based object detection and collision avoidance system of autonomous aircraft in the future.
