It is prerequisite that we have to fomulate the nonlinear mathematical modeling to design the guidance and control system of rotorcraft-based unmanned aerial vehicle using a small-scaled commercial helicopter. The small-scaled helicopters are very different from the full-scale helicopters in dynamic behavior such as high rotation speed and high frequency dynamic characteristics. In this paper, the formulation of the mathematical model of the small-scaled helicopter to minimize the complexity is presented by component and source build-up approach. It is linearized at the trim condition of hovering and forward flight and analyzed the flight modes. The results of this approach have general trends but a little difference. To verify this approach, it is necessary to compare this theoretical model with experimental results by system identification using flight test as a next research topic.
This paper deals with six degree-of-freedom HILS(hardware-in-the-loop-simulation) of KSR-III rocket using a TAFMS(three axis flight motion simulator). This TAFMS HILS test is accomplished before main HILS tests in order to verify the control stability in the presence of TAFMS dynamic effects. The TAFMS HILS test includes initial attitude holding tests for INS initial alignment procedures, timer synchronization tests with an auxiliary lift-off signal, real-time calibration tests using an external thermal recorder, open-loop TAFMS operating tests, and final closed-loop TAFMS HILS tests using the TAFMS attitude measurements as inputs to the closed control loop. The HILS tests are accomplished for several flight conditions composed with nominal flight condition, TWD effect added condition, slosh modes and/or bending modes existing condition, and windy condition, etc.

A steady-state/transient performance simulation model was newly developed for the propulsion system of the CRW (Canard Rotor Wing) type UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) during flight mode transition. The CRW type UAV has a new concept RPV (Remotely Piloted Vehicle) which can fly at two flight modes such as the take-off/landing and low speed forward flight mode using the rotary wing driven by engine bypass exhaust gas and the high speed forward flight mode using the stopped wing and main engine thrust. The propulsion system of the CRW type UAV consists of the main engine system and the duct system. The flight vehicle may generally select a proper type and specific engine with acceptable thrust level to meet the flight mission in the propulsion system design phase. In this study, a turbojet engine with one spool was selected by decision of the vehicle system designer, and the duct system is composed of main duct, rotor duct, master valve, rotor tip-jet nozzles, and variable area main nozzle. In order to establish the safe flight mode transition region of the propulsion system, steady-state and transient performance simulation should be needed. Using this simulation model, the optimal fuel flow schedules were obtained to keep the proper surge margin and the turbine inlet temperature limitation through steady-state and transient performance estimation. Furthermore, these analysis results will be used to the control optimization of the propulsion system, later. In the transient performance model, ICV (Inter-Component Volume) model was used. The performance analysis using the developed models was performed at various flight conditions and fuel flow schedules, and these results could set the safe flight mode transition region to satisfy the turbine inlet temperature overshoot limitation as well as the compressor surge margin. Because the engine performance simulation results without the duct system were well agreed with the engine manufacturer's data and the analysis results using a commercial program, it was confirmed that the validity of the proposed performance model was verified. However, the propulsion system performance model including the duct system will be compared with experimental measuring data, later.
Real-time monitoring is one of the prime necessities in a weapon flight test that is required for the efficient and timely collection of large amounts of high-rate sampled data acquired by an event-trigger. The wireless sensor network is a good candidate to resolve this requirement, especially considering the inhospitable environment of a weapon flight test. In this paper, we propose a priority based multi-channel MAC protocol with CSMA/CA over a single radio for a real-time monitoring of a weapon flight test. Multi-channel transmissions of nodes can improve the network performance in wireless sensor networks. Our proposed MAC protocol has two operation modes: Normal mode and Priority Mode. In the normal mode, the node exploits the normal CSMA/CA mechanism. In the priority mode, the node has one of three grades - Class A, B, and C. The node uses a different CSMA/CA mechanism according to its grade that is determined by a signal level. High grade nodes can exploit more channels and lower backoff exponents than low ones, which allow high grade nodes to obtain more transmission opportunities. In addition, it can guarantee successful transmission of important data generated by high grade nodes. Simulation results show that the proposed MAC exhibits excellent performance in an event-triggered real-time application.

A Propulsion System of the CRW(Canard Rotor Wing) type UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) was composed of the turbojet engine to generate the propulsive exhaust gas, and the duct system including straight bent ducts, tip-jet nozzles, a master valve and a variable main nozzle for three flight modes such as lift/landing mode, low speed transition flight mode and high speed forward flight mode. In this study, in order to operate safely the propulsion system, the dynamic Performance behavior of the system was modeled and simulated using the SIMULIN $K^{ }$, which is the user-friendly GUI type dynamic analysis tool provided by MATLA $B^{ }$. In the transient performance model, the inter-component volume model was used. The performance analysis using the developed models was performed at various flight condition, valve angle positions and fuel flow schedules, and these results could set the safe flight mode transition region to satisfy the inlet temperature overshoot limitation as well as the compressor surge margin. Performance analysis results using the SIMULIN $K^{ }$ performance program were compared with them using the commercial program GSP.m GSP.

This paper addresses the design of the auto race-track and figure-8 flight mode which can be applied to expand the loitering flight mode and increase the safety of UAV. To implement these flight modes, necessary waypoints and entry points can be calculated automatically from several information of the ground control system. The flight logic is proposed to pass the desired waypoints as well as entry points and transfer to the desired flight path by combining the light-of-sight and loitering guidance controller. The proposed algorithm and logic is verified using the 6-DOF UAV model and nonlinear simulation under the several flight conditions.
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) that have been recently commercialized can largely be divided into fixed-wing aircraft and rotor aircraft by their styles and flight characteristics. Although the fixed-wing aircraft represents higher power efficiency, higher speed, longer flight distance and larger loading weight than the rotor aircraft, they have a disadvantage of requiring a space for take-off and landing. On the other hand, the rotor aircraft can implement vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) and represents various flight modes (hovering, steep bank turns and low-speed flights). But they require both precision take-off control and attitude control. In this study, we used a quad-tilt rotor UAV to combine advantages in both the fixed-wing aircraft and the rotor aircraft. The quad-tilt rotor (QTR) system was designed and constructed by adding a tilt device with a servo motor to a general quad-rotor vehicle.
It is indispensable for a missile to track a target under the flight condition since the tracking capability affects the system performance considerably. The best way to verify the tracker's performance is flight test while it costs too much. Consequently, captive flight test or CFT has an important role in the development of a missile system. CFT, however, cannot simulate missile dynamics and is an offline and open-loop test. In this paper, we propose a new integrated-flight simulation(IFS) method using CFT imagery to overcome the limitation of synthetic image-based IFS method. This method increases the utilization of CFT's outputs and compensates the reality of imagery which lacks in the synthetic image-based IFS. Using this method make it possible to verify the system capability in various simulation modes.

Unsteady numerical analysis of an entire supersonic propulsion system from intake to nozzle was performed to study dynamic interaction between terminal shock in the intake and flame in the combustor. Both acceleration and cruise flight-modes were considered. Acoustic mode of the entire engine for both flight-modes were investigated by detail analysis of pressure fluctuation at each location of engine.

An acoustic analysis of a fuel-rich gas generator for the drive of a turbopump in a liquid rocket engine has been performed and the length of a duct has been determined by comparing the resonant frequency of unstable acoustic modes to simulate an flight model gas generator, A practical short-length simulating duct has been determined by considering 1 or 2 wavelength of the unstable modes. Length adjustment of duct to turbopump can be a method to suppress a combustion instability problem by decoupling of acoustic mode and combustion characteristics. This method has been set up and validated with acoustic analysis and hot firing tests.
