Ice accretions on the surface around a rotorcraft air intake can deteriorate the safety of rotorcraft due to the engine performance degradation. The computational simulation based on modern CFD methods can be considered extremely valuable in analyzing icing effects before exact but very expensive icing wind tunnel or in-flight tests are conducted. In this study the range and amount of ice on the surface of anti-icing equipment are investigated for heat-on and heat-off modes. It is demonstrated through the computational prediction and the icing wind tunnel test that the maximum mass and height of ice of heat-on mode are reduced about 80% in comparison with those of heat-off mode.
Matrix assisted laser desorption ionization (MALDI)-time of flight/mass spectrometry (TOF/MS) was applied to investigate alterations in phospholipids in mitophagic cancer cells. Several phospholipids, including phosphatidylcholines (PCs), sphingomyelins (SMs), and phosphatidylinositols (PIs), were successfully analyzed in control and mitophagy-induced H460 cells in the positive and negative ion modes. Principal component analysis was applied to differentiate the two groups. The upregulated and downregulated phospholipid species in the mitophagic cells were also represented in a heatmap. In the volcano plot (fold change > 1.3 and p value < 0.01), individual species of seven PCs, two SMs, and three PIs were selected as differentially regulated phospholipids. In particular, almost all the molecular species of PC, SM, and PI were downregulated in the mitophagic cells. Quantification of these lipids indicated that mitophagy induces altered metabolism of phospholipids. Therefore, phospholipid alterations during the mitophagic process of lung cancer cells were well characterized by MALDI-TOF/MS.

Previously study on structural design of the main wing of the twenty-seat class WIG (Wing in Ground Effect) craft. In the final design, three spars construction was selected for safety in the critical flight load, and the Carbon-Epoxy material was selected for lightness and structural stability. In this study, the forced vibration analysis was performed on the composite main wing structure of the twenty-seat class WIG craft with two-stroke pusher type reciprocating engine. The vibration analysis based on the finite element method was performed using a commercial FEM code, MSC/NASTRAN. Excitations for the frequency response analysis were assumed as the Y-mode (lateral mode), the Z-mode (vertical mode) and the $M_{xyz}$-mode (twisted mode) which are typical main vibration modes of engine. And excitations for the transient response analysis were assumed as the X-mode (longitudinal mode) with the oscillating propeller thrust which occurs in operation.

In this study, shape memory alloy(SMA) wires and piezoceramic actuators(PZT's) are employed in order to generate higher modes on the beam deformations. Compressive force is generated and applied to the beam by the pre-strained SMA wires attached at both ends of the beam. PZT's apply concentrated moments to several locations on the beam. Combinations of the compressive force and concentrated moments are investigated in order to understand the higher-mode deformation of beams. The first desired mode shape is obtained by controlling the temperature of the SMA wires. The first and third mode shapes are performed experimentally by heating SMA wires up to phase transformation temperature. The adaptive wing is defined as a wing whose shape parameters such as the camber, wing twist and thickness can be varied in order to change the wing shape for various flight conditions. In this research, control of the camber has been studied. The wing model consists of three plates and many ribs. Two of the plates are placed parallel to each other and they are clamped at one edge. Third plate connects the other edges of the parallel plates together. Each rib is made of SMA wire and connected to the parallel plates. It generates concentrated force and applies to the plates in oblique directions. The PZT's are bonded onto the plates and exert concentrated moments upon the plate at several locations. The object of this research is to generate various shape of wing by combining the concentrated forces and moments.

A gimbal system in observation reconnaissance aircraft was fabricated by assembling many parts and bearings. This system consists of a camera module and a stabilization gimbal that supports the camera module. During the flight for recording images, the gimbal system experiences various accelerations with wide frequencies. Although base excitation of stabilization gimbal results in vibration of the camera module, the camera module must be able to capture the correct and clear image even while vibrating. Hence, it is important to know the natural frequencies and vibration modes of the gimbal system with the camera module. Considering bearings as spring elements, the vibration characteristic of the gimbal system was analyzed by finite element method. In addition, harmonic response analysis was performed to determine the correct transmissibility of acceleration for the camera module in the frequency range of 0-500 Hz.

The piezoelectric-hydraulic actuator is a hybrid device that consists of a hydraulic pump driven by a piezo-stack coupled to a conventional hydraulic cylinder. The actuator is of compact size, but can produce a moderate energy output. Such hybrid actuators are currently being researched and developed in many industrialized countries due to the requirement for high performance and compact flight systems. In a previous study, we designed and manufactured a unidirectional hybrid actuator. However, the blocking force was not as high as expected. Therefore, in this study, we redesigned the pump chamber and hydraulic cylinder and also improved the system by removing the air bubbles. Two different types of piezo-stacks were used. In order to achieve bidirectional capabilities in the actuator, commercial solenoid valves were used to control the direction of the output cylinder. Experimental testing of the actuator in unidirectional and bidirectional modes was performed to examine performance issues related to driving frequency, bias pressure, reed valve thickness, etc. The results showed that the maximum blocking force was measured as 970.2N when the frequency was 185Hz.

The aerodynamic design of a proprotor for the Smart UAV adopting tiltrotor aircraft concept is conducted in this study. Since proprotor of tiltrotor aircraft is operated at both rotary and fixed wing mode with single configuration rotor, the proprotor has to be designed to meet performance requirements for both flight modes. The aerodynamic design of proprotor is accomplished by combining three sources of data - the proprotor performance data, the aerodynamic data of vehicle, and the performance data of engine. The performance analysis code for proprotor is based on the combined momentum and blade element theory and validated by comparison with the TRAM data. In order to design configuration for a proprotor satisfying requirements for both rotary and fixed wing mode, various kind of performance maps are constructed for many performance and configuration parameters. From the analysis the twist angle of 38 degrees and the solidity of 0.118 are decided to be the optimal geometric parameters for both operating conditions.

For SUAV is required to have the capacity of VTOL and fast forward flight, the SUAV development program has decided to adopt the tiltrotor mechanism which includes helicopter and turboprop mechanisms. From the engine point of view, the key engine parameters such as engine operating mechanism, engine control scheme, the dynamics characteristic of power train, engine intake/exhaust concept, and engine installation requirements should fulfill the requirements of the two different mechanisms, helicopter and turboprop. And for the maximum efficiency of the rotor, rotational speed for the two modes are 20% different, the power train shall find a way to make it so. Meeting these specific requirements for the tiltrotor mechanism, this research begins with a conventional OTS(off-the-shelf) turboshaft engine survey and minimizes engine modification to develop an economical propulsion system. The engine technical review has been performed on the basis of those requirements and capabilities.

This paper include the investigation of finding the system characteristics of facility by simulating open-type turbo-pump fed system, which has commercial control valves, using AMESIM (Advanced Modeling Environment Simulation) commercial software. After developing a flight-type control valve on the basis of the results, the system characteristics of facility for control and valve tests is estimated. Especially, one of purposes of this paper is to find PID value of each commercial control valve in the facility for system test. To find suitable control logic, PI and PID modes are also compared. This paper also introduces design parameters of valve and equipment for thrust control and TDS simulation, which are using control valves.
Background: Peptides have diverse and important physiological roles in plants and are ideal markers for species identification. It is unclear whether there are specific peptides in Panax quinquefolius L. (PQ). The aims of this study were to identify Quinetides, a series of diverse posttranslational modified native peptides of the ribonuclease-like storage protein (ginseng major protein), from PQ to explore novel peptide markers and develop a new method to distinguish PQ from Panax ginseng. Methods: We used different fragmentation modes in the LTQ Orbitrap analysis to identify the enriched Quinetide targets of PQ, and we discovered Quinetide markers of PQ and P. ginseng using ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry analysis. These "peptide markers" were validated by simultaneously monitoring Rf and F11 as standard ginsenosides. Results: We discovered 100 Quinetides of PQ with various post-translational modifications (PTMs), including a series of glycopeptides, all of which originated from the protein ginseng major protein. We effectively distinguished PQ from P. ginseng using new "peptide markers." Four unique peptides (Quinetides TP6 and TP7 as markers of PQ and Quinetides TP8 and TP9 as markers of P. ginseng) and their associated glycosylation products were discovered in PQ and P. ginseng. Conclusion: We provide specific information on PQ peptides and propose the clinical application of peptide markers to distinguish PQ from P. ginseng.
