Attitude Controller Design and Test of Korea Space Launch Vehicle-I Upper Stage

  • This paper introduces the upper stage attitude control system of KSLV-I, which is the first space launch vehicle in Korea. The KSLV-I upper stage attitude control system consists of two electro-hydraulic actuators and a reaction control system using cold nitrogen gas. A proportional, derivative, and integral controller is designed for the electro-hydraulic thrust vectoring system, and Schmidt trigger ON/OFF controllers are designed for the reaction control system. Each attitude controller is designed to have enough stability margins. The stability and performance of KSLV-I upper stage attitude control system is verified via hardware in the loop tests. Hardware in the loop tests are accomplished for perturbed flight conditions as well as nominal flight condition. The test results show that the attitude control loop of KSLV-I upper stage is very stable and the attitude controllers perform well for all flight conditions. Attitude controllers designed in this paper have been successfully applied to the first flight of KSLV-I on August 25, 2009. The flight test results show that all attitude controllers of the KSLV-I upper stage performed well and satisfied the accuracy specifications even during abnormal flight conditions.

자세측정용 GPS/INS 통합시스템 구성 및 비행 시험 (An Attitude Determination GPS and INS Integration Scheme: Design and Flight Experiment)

  • 본 논문에서는 무인기용으로 개발된 자세측정용 GPS/INS 통합 항법 시스템의 설계 개념을 제안하고 비행실험을 통한 성능 평가 결과를 제시한다. 제안하는 시스템은 무인 항공기 자동 비행 시스템의 일부분으로 설계되었고 자세측정용 GPS 수신기, 항법 컴퓨터, 상용의 IMU(Inertial Measurement Unit)로 이루어져 있다. 제안된 항법 시스템은 소형 저가의 구현이 가능하면서도 무인 항공기의 안정된 비행 제어를 위해 요구되는 정확도를 가지는 자세 정보를 제공 할 수 있다. 제안된 시스템을 검증하기 위한 통합 항법 하드웨어와 소프트웨어를 개발하였다. 비행 실험을 통하여 성능 평가를 수행하였다. 비행 실험 결과 개발된 항법 시스템은 GPS 또는 INS 단독보다 정확한 위치, 속도, 자세 정보를 제공하는 것을 확인 할 수 있었고 특히 자세 결과는 기준 자세 시스템과 비교를 통하여 정확도를 확인 할 수 있었다.

  • Initial attitude error is one of the large error sources in the navigation errors of SDINS. And it is important to decide the initial attitude of SDINS. The method, like a self-alignment or a transfer alignment method, is required to a precise INS. If we do not have a precise INS, we should get large attitude error. After performing the initial alignment, a vehicle has the initial attitude error. Therefore, it results in navigation error due to the initial attitude error. But, if we use position information during flight, we could estimate and compensate a vehicle attitude error. So, we can maintain a precise attitude in spite of existing the initial attitude error. A Study on Longitudinal Phugoid Mode Affected by Application of Nonlinear Control Laws

  • Relaxed Static Stability (RSS) concept has been applied to improve aerodynamic performance of modern version supersonic jet fighter aircraft. The T-50 advanced supersonic trainer employs the RSS concept in order to improve the aerodynamic performance. And the flight control system stabilizes the unstable aircraft and provides adequate handling qualities. The T-50 longitudinal control laws employ a proportional-plus-integral type controller based on a dynamic inversion method. The longitudinal dynamic modes consist of short period with high frequency and phugoid mode with low frequency. The design goal of longitudinal control law is optimization of short period damping ratio and frequency using Lower Order Equivalent System (LOES) complying the requirement of MIL-F-8785C. This paper addresses phugoid mode characteristics such as damping ratio and natural frequency that is affected by the nonlinear control laws such as angle of attack limiter, auto pitch attitude command system and autopilot of pitch attitude hold.

초기 기수각 정보가 필요 없는 SDINS의 운항중 정렬 (In-Flight Alignment of SDINS without Initial Heading Information)

  • This paper presents a new in-flight alignment method for an SDINS under large initial heading error. To handle large heading error, a new attitude error model is introduced. The attitude errors are divided into heading error and leveling errors using a newly defined horizontal frame. Some navigation error dynamic models are derived from the attitude error model for indirect feedback filtering of the in-flight alignment system. A Kalman filter with Position measurement is designed to estimate navigation errors as the indirect feedback filter Simulation results show that the proposed in-flight alignment method reduces the heading error very quickly from more than 40deg to about 5deg so as to apply a refined navigation filter. The total alignment process including leveling mode and navigation mode in addition to the proposed one allows large initial values not only in heading error but also in leveling errors.

A Multistage In-flight Alignment with No Initial Attitude References for Strapdown Inertial Navigation Systems

  • This paper presents a multistage in-flight alignment (MIFA) method for a strapdown inertial navigation system (SDINS) suitable for moving vehicles with no initial attitude references. A SDINS mounted on a moving vehicle frequently loses attitude information for many reasons, and it makes solving navigation equations impossible because the true motion is coupled with an undefined vehicle attitude. To determine the attitude in such a situation, MIFA consists of three stages: a coarse horizontal attitude, coarse heading, and fine attitude with adaptive Kalman navigation filter (AKNF) in order. In the coarse horizontal alignment, the pitch and roll are coarsely estimated from the second order damping loop with an input of acceleration differences between the SDINS and GPS. To enhance estimation accuracy, the acceleration is smoothed by a scalar filter to reflect the true dynamics of a vehicle, and the effects of the scalar filter gains are analyzed. Then the coarse heading is determined from the GPS tracking angle and yaw increment of the SDINS. The attitude from these two stages is fed back to the initial values of the AKNF. To reduce the estimated bias errors of inertial sensors, special emphasis is given to the timing synchronization effects for the measurement of AKNF. With various real flight tests using an UH60 helicopter, it is proved that MIFA provides a dramatic position error improvement compared to the conventional gyro compass alignment.

  • This paper presents the principle, dynamics modeling and control, hardware implementation, and flight test result of a hybrid-type unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). The proposed UAV was designed to provide both hovering and fixed-wing type aerodynamic flight modes. The UAV's flight mode transition was achieved through the attitude transformation in pitch axis, which avoids a complex rotor tilt mechanism from a structural and control viewpoint. To achieve this, a different navigation coordinate was introduced that avoids the gimbal lock in pitch singularity point. Attitude and guidance control algorithms were developed for the flight control system. For flight test purposes, a quadrotor attached with a tailless fixed-wing structure was manufactured. An onboard flight control computer was designed to realize the navigation and control algorithms and the UAV's performance was verified through the outdoor flight tests.

  • KSR-III 로켓은 액체추진 엔진을 사용한 과학로켓이며, 추력 비행중 피치 및 요 자세제어를 위해 추력벡터제어 방식을 사용하고, 롤 자세를 제어하기 위해 냉가스 추력기를 사용하였다. 본 논문은 KSR-III 로켓의 3축 자세제어를 위해 설계된 자세제어기의 구조와 이득 스케쥴링, 자세 안정성 분석결과에 대해 소개한다. 설계된 자세제어기는 국산화 개발된 관성 항법시스템의 비행소프트웨어로 구현되었는데 비행시험에서 완벽히 작동하였다. 비행에서 측정된 데이터는 시뮬레이션 결과와 거의 일치되었다.

  • 본 논문에서는 비행물체의 운동에 기초한 지능제어 알고리즘을 사용하여 대기의 환경적 요인과 기체형태 및 추력의 인위적 요인들간의 복잡한 함수관계를 지식과 경험에 의한 제어규칙으로서 비행안정성 확보와 자율비행을 위한 비행 자세제어를 행하였다. 비행 자세제어를 위하여 사용한 지능제어기는 다변수 입력 및 출력이 가능하며 강인성을 지닌 퍼지제어기를 사용하였다. 실험을 위해 모형비행기와 자세 검출용 센서를 제작하고, 비행 전문가의 지식과 경험을 기초로 하여 작성한 제어규칙에 의하여 프로그램 된 퍼지제어기를 수 차례의 시험비행을 통해 제어규칙을 조정한 결과 안정된 자세제어를 행할 수 있었다

  • An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is an aircraft controlled by .emote commands from ground station and/o. pre-programmed onboard autopilot system. A navigation system in the UAV provides a navigation data for a flight control computer(FCC). The FCC requires accurate and reliable position, velocity and attitude information for guidance and control. This paper proposes an ADGPS/INS integrated navigation system for a UAV. The proposed navigation system comprises an attitude determination GPS (ADGPS) receive., a navigation computer unit, and a low-cost commercial MEMS inertial measurement unit(IMU). The navigation algorithm contains a fault detection and isolation (FDI) function fur integrity. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed navigation system, two flight tests were preformed using a small aircraft. The first flight test was carried out to confirm fundamental operation of the proposed navigation system and to check the effectiveness of the FDI algorithm. In the second flight test, the navigation performance and the benefit of the GPS attitude information were checked in a high dynamic environment. The flight test results show that the proposed ADGPS/INS integrated navigation system gives a reliable performance even when anomalous GPS data is provided and better navigation performance than a conventional GPS/INS integration unit.
